MSRBMH Ch 27
The morning’s chaos finally settled as the two got into the car.
Su Yu unapologetically claimed the passenger seat, leaving the culprit of his fury to play chauffeur.
Ji Yanli touched his still-stinging lip with a knuckle before gripping the steering wheel.
The engine purred to life, and soft music filled the car—a nostalgic love song from years past.
The gentle melody did nothing to soothe Su Yu’s temper.
That was my first kiss, damn it!
If not for his self-restraint, he’d have slapped that smug mouth a few more times.
"Wife, don’t be mad." Ji Yanli’s voice was infuriatingly calm, almost sing-song.
"I won’t surprise you like that again. Don’t give me the silent treatment."
Su Yu whirled on him.
"You stole my first kiss, and you expect me to just—?!" He huffed and faced forward again.
"Consider yourself lucky you have a meeting today. Otherwise, one slap wouldn’t have been enough."
Ji Yanli chuckled. "Wife, you’re misremembering. We’ve been married for years. Your first kiss was mine long ago."
"Bullshit! My virtue is intact!"
"So is mine," Ji Yanli said solemnly. "I saved it just for you."
Su Yu nearly choked.
Him? A virgin?
The man could trip and land lips-first into a crowd of admirers at any banquet.
Ignoring the odd twinge in his chest, Su Yu scoffed.
"Like I care about your ‘virtue.’"
Ji Yanli nodded sagely. "A man’s purity is his greatest dowry."
"Who taught you that?!" Su Yu hissed. "Stop reading trashy web novels!"
They arrived at the company’s underground parking lot by 12:30 PM—just enough time to prep for the 2:00 PM meeting.
Su Yu reached for the door handle when Ji Yanli’s phone rang.
The man paused, gesturing for him to go ahead.
"Hmph. Like I wanted to eavesdrop anyway," Su Yu muttered, stepping out.
The parking garage was dimly lit, the elevator’s glow the only guide.
As he approached, he noticed a slender man in a cap loitering near the doors.
The stranger was on the phone, voice tense:
"It’s impossible. That woman’s guarding him like a hawk. She’s too damn sharp."
A muffled reply. The man gritted his teeth. "You think it’s easy? Double the pay, or I walk."
Su Yu’s ears pricked.
Shady business.
He glanced sideways just as the man turned—their eyes met.
The stranger flinched, adjusting his mask before hurrying away.
Weird.
But the elevator dinged open, and Su Yu stepped in.
Floor 14
Mia was waiting with a coffee, her brows arched.
"No disasters last night?"
"Nothing major," Su Yu said, grabbing the meeting files.
"Though Xie Manor’s security’s a joke. Ji Yanli’s room lock was broken."
Mia’s grip tightened on her cup.
"Again? Next time, just switch rooms."
Her tone suggested this wasn’t new.
"Does this happen often?"
"At the last gala, CEO Wang’s lock was tampered with," Mia said, scowling.
"But someone insisted on trading rooms with him. Guess who got drugged that night?"
Su Yu froze. Wait—
The elevator pinged. Ji Yanli strode out, his collar undone and aura stormy.
Mia’s report died mid-sentence. Her gaze locked onto his swollen lip.
"CEO Ji… Your mouth…?"
Su Yu bit back a laugh. The icy CEO now looked like he’d lost a fight with a tube of lipstick.
Mia wheeled on Su Yu. "You said nothing happened!"
"Dunno," Su Yu said innocently. "Maybe he fell."
"On what? A fist?!"
"Or," Su Yu grinned, "his lip might’ve ‘fallen’ onto someone’s palm. Right, CEO Ji?"
Ji Yanli smirked. "An… accurate hypothesis."
