Ch 2 : The Ge'er's Escape

With a mere lift of his hand, a document appeared in his grasp.  “Is this what you mean, Village Chief?” He handed the document over. The Village Chief reached out, took it, opened it, and examined it carefully.  “Exactly this.” After reviewing it, he returned the document to the man and turned to address the villagers, clarifying the man's identity.  “Ling Cang, from the capital. His family has been in trade for generations.” The Clan Leader nodded upon hearing this.  “If that's the case, then the young man may reside temporarily in Yunxi Village.” “Thank you very much then,”  Divine Emperor Ling Cang said with a smile, cupping his hands in thanks. His smile was like a warm spring breeze, dazzling everyone present. “Might there be any uninhabited houses in the village? I would like to purchase one,”  Ling Cang asked with a smile. Before entering the mortal realm, he had observed this area; the scenery was excellent and it seemed a good place for living and...

Chapter 147 Extra 3: "Priorities"

"Chengyu, our orchestra is organizing a social event tomorrow. Can you help me pick out an outfit?"

Nian Jinsui pulled several sets of clothes from his wardrobe and laid them on the bed, waiting for Qin Chengyu’s opinion.

"A social event?" Qin Chengyu’s eyes darkened slightly, revealing only a flicker of surprise while expertly masking his displeasure.

"Yeah. Too bad it’s an internal orchestra thing, otherwise I’d take you along. We’re going to a scenic area in the suburbs—it’ll take the whole day. So, you just stay home tomorrow and wait for me. I’ll bring back something delicious for you."

"Alright." Qin Chengyu gave no hint of his thoughts, nodding agreeably before seriously offering fashion advice.

"The weather’s getting colder. Make sure to dress warmly so you don’t catch a chill."

Nian Jinsui nodded. "You’re right. No point in sacrificing comfort for style."

Watching Nian Jinsui happily prepare for the event, Qin Chengyu’s gaze grew shadowed, a plan quietly forming in his mind.

My dear Jinsui, I wonder—who matters more to you? Me, or this social event?

I’m sure you’ll choose me. Right?

The next morning, Nian Jinsui woke up but noticed Qin Chengyu hadn’t left his room yet—unusual, given his punctual routine.

As the departure time neared, concern gnawed at Nian Jinsui. He knocked on the study door but got no response. Finally, he turned the knob and stepped inside.

"Chengyu? What’s wrong?"

Qin Chengyu lay curled under the blankets, his face flushed, clearly unwell.

"Jinsui… I don’t feel good…" His voice was hoarse as he struggled to open his eyes.

Nian Jinsui touched his forehead—burning. "You’re running such a high fever! Hold on, I’ll get you medicine."

As Nian Jinsui rushed out, Qin Chengyu’s lips curled into a faint smile.

He does care about me.

That cold shower last night wasn’t for nothing.

After administering fever reducers and a cooling patch, Nian Jinsui reassured him, "Rest well. You’ll feel better soon."

"Don’t worry about me. You should go, or you’ll be late…" Qin Chengyu urged weakly, though he already knew it was too late.

Nian Jinsui checked the time. "It’s fine. I’ll message them that I’m not coming."

"It’s my fault… You’re missing the event because of me…" Qin Chengyu lowered his eyes, feigning guilt while concealing his triumph.

"Don’t be silly. It’s not your fault. Besides, it’s not like I was guaranteed to find love there anyway." Nian Jinsui ruffled his hair affectionately. "Just focus on getting better."

"Mm." Qin Chengyu responded obediently.

Though… I could always be the one for you, he thought.

Hours later, Nian Jinsui returned to check on him. Qin Chengyu was drenched in sweat, his brows furrowed in restless sleep—but his fever had subsided.

"Chengyu, wake up. Have some porridge."

Qin Chengyu stirred weakly. "I don’t want to move…"

Nian Jinsui touched his damp collar. "At least let me change your clothes. You’re soaked."

"I don’t have the strength…"

Heart aching at his frailty, Nian Jinsui sighed. "Just sit up. I’ll do it."

"Isn’t that too much trouble?" Qin Chengyu feigned hesitation, inwardly thrilled.

"Not at all."

Nian Jinsui fetched fresh clothes and a towel, helping him sit up before unbuttoning his pajamas. But when he saw the scars littering Qin Chengyu’s body, he froze.

Though he’d read about them in the novel, seeing them in person was jarring.

"Did… Nian Jinsui do this to you?"

"Some. Others are from Qin Chenglu." Qin Chengyu answered indifferently, even offering comfort. "Don’t worry. They’ve healed."

Nian Jinsui’s throat tightened. He reached out instinctively, then hesitated—only for Qin Chengyu to grab his hand and press it to a scar below his collarbone.

"This one was from Chenglu playing darts as a kid."

The warmth of his skin and the sharpness of his bones sent an inexplicable flutter through Nian Jinsui. He pulled back hastily.

"Consider the past a nightmare. Your future will be brighter."

Qin Chengyu’s eyes gleamed as he amended softly, "Our future."

Flustered, Nian Jinsui helped him dress. "Pants can wait—"

"But my legs are sweaty too…"

Reluctantly, Nian Jinsui complied. Qin Chengyu’s legs were long, pale, and glistening—distractingly so. He worked quickly, fighting off awkward thoughts.

Noticing his reaction, Qin Chengyu smirked and brushed Nian Jinsui’s reddened ear. "Are you feverish too?"

"No! It’s just hot!" Nian Jinsui fumbled, finishing the task before fleeing. "I’ll get your porridge!"

Watching his retreat, Qin Chengyu’s smile deepened.

He feels it too.

Later, as Nian Jinsui fed him porridge, Qin Chengyu gazed up pleadingly.

"You’re the first person to treat me this well. Will you always be this kind to me?"

For Qin Chengyu, these small gestures meant everything.

Moved, Nian Jinsui nodded firmly. "Always."

After his "recovery," Qin Chengyu grew clingier—texting Nian Jinsui updates or asking when he’d return.

One day, colleagues invited Nian Jinsui to dinner.

"I’ll pass. I’m eating at home." He smiled, recalling Qin Chengyu’s message about roasted duck.

"But you live alone! Come out with us!"

"I have a roommate now."

"Oh? Boyfriend or girlfriend? You’re keeping secrets!"

"It’s not like that! Just a friend!"

"Liar! You’re always smiling at your phone these days!"

Nian Jinsui paused. Was he really?

On his way home, he reflected.

What started as brotherly care had undeniably shifted into something deeper.

"Chengyu, I’m back—"

The moment he stepped inside, an intoxicating scent enveloped him—an Omega’s pheromones, potent and irresistible, stirring something primal within him.

Nian Jinsui’s breath hitched.

This couldn’t be…
