Chapter 146 Extra 2: If Only He Were an Omega

But soon, Nian Jinsui noticed something.

"Why did you give this to me? Do you have plans?"

Qin Chengyu hesitated. Originally, he had thought about leaving—after all, he was used to being alone, drifting without attachments. Nian Jinsui was just a stranger; he shouldn’t overstay his welcome.

But now, he’d changed his mind.

He had lived through two worlds, and Nian Jinsui was the first person who ever celebrated his birthday. If he left, would he ever find someone else who cared about him like this?

He had grown greedy for this warmth.

"I was thinking… I should earn more in the future."

Nian Jinsui beamed. "Great! Then we’ll live lavishly and never worry again! Chengyu, you’re my lucky star!"

Qin Chengyu froze.

He had always been called a "curse"—this was the first time someone called him a "blessing."

"But… I’m not sure if staying here is bothering you?" His long lashes lowered slightly, his tone cautious, almost fragile.

"How could it? Chengyu, you know what?" Nian Jinsui’s expression softened. "I’m actually really grateful to you. Ever since my father passed, this house has felt so empty. Lonely. But you—you made it warm again. So don’t overthink it, okay?"

Over their time together, Qin Chengyu had been quiet, rarely smiling. Nian Jinsui knew he had suffered too much to suddenly become cheerful. All he wanted was to give him positive encouragement, to help him face this new life.

Qin Chengyu stared at him, unsure how to react.

So… someone like him could bring warmth to others too?

"I should be the one thanking you, Jinsui…" he murmured.

"Does it feel weird calling my name?"

"No, I—"

Before he could explain, Nian Jinsui patted his shoulder. "It’s fine, I get it. If I met someone with the same name as my enemy, I’d feel awkward too. If you don’t mind… call me ge (older brother)? From now on, I’ll treat you like family."

"Call you… ge?"

"Yeah, you’re 24, right? I’m a year older—it’s fair. Unless you don’t want to?"

To Nian Jinsui, Qin Chengyu seemed like a child starved of love. If possible, he wanted to be his family—to care for him, pull him out of the shadows.

"I… I’d like that. Ge…" Qin Chengyu didn’t want to disappoint him, so he agreed. The word slipped out easily—surprisingly natural.

"Good boy." Nian Jinsui grinned, swiping a bit of frosting onto Qin Chengyu’s cheek.

The affectionate gesture made Qin Chengyu’s fingers tighten. His heartbeat spiked.

He pressed his lips together—but couldn’t stop the small, clumsy smile that formed.

Later…

Qin Chengyu started learning to cook, following online tutorials but improvising. Yet everything he made was delicious—Nian Jinsui praised him endlessly, then secretly upped his gym routine.

Nian Jinsui was fitness-conscious, maintaining a toned figure. Qin Chengyu, however, was lazy, eating little, with no hobbies. When alone, he often spaced out—but the moment Nian Jinsui was home, his mood lifted, his gaze fixated on him.

Months passed, their bond deepening. This simple, mundane life made Qin Chengyu grow dependent, attached.

If I could live like this forever…

But one night, a phone call shattered the peace.

"Chengyu… can you come here?"

Nian Jinsui’s voice was urgent. Qin Chengyu rushed to his room.

"Ge, what’s wrong?"

Nian Jinsui lay in bed, drenched in sweat, his brow furrowed in pain.

"It’s nothing… just my rut. Ran out of suppressants. Can you buy some?"

Only then did Qin Chengyu remember—Nian Jinsui was an Alpha.

"I’ll go now."

Luckily, a 24-hour pharmacy was nearby. Qin Chengyu returned quickly.

After the injection, Nian Jinsui’s condition stabilized—but Qin Chengyu’s mind darkened with new worries.

"Ge… have you ever marked an Omega before?"

"Nah, I’ve never even been in a relationship," Nian Jinsui admitted.

"Will you… mark one in the future?"

"Who knows? Omegas are rare, and I’m not some top-tier Alpha. Doubt any would want me."

Qin Chengyu’s expression turned serious.

"They’re blind, then. Ge is the best."

Nian Jinsui laughed it off. "Hah, you’re too kind. I’m fine now—go rest."

But Qin Chengyu meant every word. To him, Nian Jinsui was incomparable.

Back in his room, Qin Chengyu couldn’t sleep.

Nian Jinsui—those three characters now meant salvation, light, hope.

But what if one day, he marked an Omega?

This house would have someone else, sharing Nian Jinsui’s warmth.

Or worse—he himself would become the outsider.

The thought suffocated him. After all his suffering, he had finally found this Nian Jinsui.

He refused to be abandoned. Refused to share.

He wanted to monopolize him.

Nian Jinsui could only be his.

His eyes darkened with possessiveness, the craving in his heart intensifying.

If only I were an Omega…
