Ning Liangan looked skeptical.
"Really? But ever since you got married, you haven’t come home to visit us. If you’re not too happy to miss home, then what is it?"
Nian Jinsui wanted to cry.
He wasn’t too happy to miss home—he was trapped like a bird in a cage!
"Anyway, if you’re free, come visit me more often."
Nian Jinsui glanced at Chu Heting and added,
"Just you, though."
He didn’t understand why Chu Heting had tagged along today.
As the Chu family heir, he wasn’t as carefree as Chu Hejun—
so why would he come to the Qin estate?
Was he still worried Nian Jinsui would bully Ning Liangan?
At that moment, Chu Heting, who had been silent until now, suddenly spoke.
"Jinsui, you don’t seem very welcoming."
Nian Jinsui nodded vigorously in his heart.
Yes, yes, you’ve figured it out! But he still had to keep up appearances.
"How could that be? I’ve been longing for Ting-gege to visit me!"
Chu Heting didn’t respond, only fixing Nian Jinsui with a sharp gaze.
Nian Jinsui’s heart pounded under that scrutiny.
Does he see through me…?
Ning Liangan’s eyes flickered between Chu Heting and Nian Jinsui before he suddenly stood up.
"This is my first time at the Qin residence. I’d like to look around. You two talk—I’ll be back soon."
"Huh?"
Nian Jinsui didn’t understand Ning Liangan’s move,
but before he could ask, Chu Heting explained,
"I told Liangan I wanted to have a proper talk with you."
Ning Liangan stepped outside and immediately spotted Butler Wu lingering by the door.
"Butler Wu, what are you doing here?"
"Young Master Nian, I was just waiting in case the gentlemen needed anything."
Having worked as a waiter before,
Ning Liangan instantly recognized that Butler Wu was eavesdropping.
"It’s my first time here. Why don’t you give me a tour, Butler Wu?"
Butler Wu hesitated.
Everyone in the capital knows Nian Jinsui was obsessed with Chu Heting.
If I let Chu Heting into the Qin estate and don’t keep an eye on them,
Qin Chengyu will have my head when he gets back.
The current Qin Chengyu wasn’t the same as before—he held real power now.
And Butler Wu had a sneaking suspicion that if Qin Chengyu ever decided to be ruthless, he wouldn’t lose to Chairman Qin.
He dared not be careless.
Besides, any servant could give Ning Liangan a tour.
It was obvious Ning Liangan was trying to get rid of him.
Seeing Butler Wu hesitate, Ning Liangan struck first, putting on a wounded expression.
"Butler Wu, do you dislike me too? I just returned to the Nian family. I know everyone thinks I’m a country bumpkin with no sophistication."
Butler Wu paled.
"Young Master Nian, how could you say such a thing? I would never dare dislike you!"
Of course, Butler Wu knew Ning Liangan was doing this on purpose—
but with the words already out, he couldn’t possibly stay. He quickly stepped forward.
"Young Master Nian, right this way."
Back inside, Nian Jinsui was baffled.
He couldn’t imagine what Chu Heting wanted to talk about and grew uneasy.
"Ting-gege, what did you want to discuss?"
"Whether you actually like me or not."
Nian Jinsui’s heart skipped a beat, and he immediately slipped into acting mode.
"Ting-gege, you can doubt anything—but never my devotion to you! My love for you—"
"Enough."
Chu Heting cut him off before he could launch into another passionate monologue.
"Spare me the clichés and insincerity. I know you don’t like me."
Nian Jinsui’s eyes widened. He had no idea how to react and quickly asked his system in panic:
"Xili Xili, what do I do now? My acting is flawless—how did Chu Heting figure it out? But this isn’t my fault, right? I’ve completed every task diligently!"
[The system only requires the host to maintain character. Whether other characters believe it is irrelevant.]
Relieved that the system wasn’t blaming him, Nian Jinsui realized—
So even if I’m exposed, I have to keep pretending?
Forcing a calm expression, he let out a dry laugh.
"Ting-gege, you must be joking. I’ve liked you for over a decade. How could you say something so hurtful…"
Chu Heting studied Nian Jinsui’s exaggerated pout and furrowed brows, finding his terrible acting more amusing by the second.
Back when he’d ignored Nian Jinsui, he hadn’t realized the man had such a talent for comedy.
"Though I don’t know why you’re doing this, I won’t force you to admit it if you’re unwilling."
Chu Heting’s tone turned serious.
"There’s one more thing. Liangan told me it was you who helped him resolve his inner conflicts and accept my feelings. I came today to thank you."
Nian Jinsui had never seen Chu Heting speak to him so sincerely before.
He was at a loss, scrambling for a response.
Should I say ‘you’re welcome’?
Would that break character?
Would it be better to just start screaming instead?
Chu Heting really knows how to make things difficult for me!
Unaware of Nian Jinsui’s internal crisis, Chu Heting continued,
"And one more thing—happy marriage."
Nian Jinsui froze, even more unsure how to respond.
But he could roughly understand Chu Heting’s perspective.
Aside from Nian Jinsui’s one-sided obsessive pursuit, they had no real grudges.
In fact, they’d grown up together and shared a connection through Ning Liangan.
Now that Chu Heting knew his "love" was fake, their relationship was much simpler.
So… is Chu Heting here to make peace?
