Just as Nian Jinsui was about to speak,
Chu Heting seemed to hear Ning Liang’an returning and called out,
“Liang’an, come in, we’re done talking.”
Only then did Ning Liang’an slowly walk in, clicking his tongue in amazement.
“Jinsui, the Qin family is really extravagant. It’s even more over-the-top than ours.”
Chu Heting extended his hand to Ning Liang’an,
signaling him to sit beside him, and explained with a smile,
“This is Qin Zhuo’s preferred style.”
Nian Jinsui looked Ning Liang’an up and down, unable to help asking,
“Liang’an, aren’t you curious about what we were talking about?”
“If it’s something you want to tell me, then I want to know. If it’s something you don’t want to tell me, then I don’t want to know either,”
Ning Liang’an answered calmly.
“Chu Heting is someone I like, and Jinsui, you’re my family. I trust you both and respect you.”
Nian Jinsui was momentarily stunned, and all his worries vanished.
He had done many things behind Ning Liang’an’s back—like drugging Chu Heting to seduce him under someone’s orders at the Imperial Capital Building.
Even though he hadn’t done it willingly, he still felt guilty.
But now, Ning Liang’an’s words made everything suddenly clear.
They were family. Ning Liang’an trusted him, so he had to be worthy of that trust.
Even though he couldn’t outright express his blessing for Chu Heting and Ning Liang’an because of his “character setting,” Nian Jinsui still did his best to express his feelings subtly.
“Liang’an, thank you. We’ll all get the happiness we want.”
Qin Chengyu returned home,
glanced around the empty reception room,
and finally settled his gaze on the three untouched teacups on the table.
His face darkened.
He had been delayed by a signing ceremony for a new project and couldn’t make it back immediately.
Before he could ask anything, Butler Wu quickly stepped forward to report,
“Second Young Master, Young Master Chu and Second Young Master Nian just left. Then the Young Madam went back to his room.”
Ever since Qin Chengyu and Nian Jinsui got their marriage certificate,
everyone in the Qin household had started addressing Nian Jinsui as the Young Madam.
“How did their conversation go?”
“The atmosphere seemed pretty good. Young Master Chu and Second Young Master Nian looked close. They even sat together—and I saw them holding hands…”
Qin Chengyu impatiently cut him off.
“Do you think I care about how well they get along?”
Butler Wu thought to himself,
“If Chu Heting and Ning Liang’an are solid, then Nian Jinsui won’t stand a chance,”
and awkwardly continued,
“The Young Madam sat across from them, chatting and laughing. Later... Second Young Master Nian insisted on me giving him a tour of the Qin house…”
The more he talked, the more guilty he felt.
Qin Chengyu’s expression turned cold.
“So what you’re saying is, Jinsui and Chu Heting were alone for a while, and you don’t know what they did, is that it?”
The danger in his tone made Butler Wu shiver.
He quickly added,
“But when I came back, they were still sitting in the same spot. They probably didn’t do anything inappropriate.”
Qin Chengyu’s expression relaxed slightly.
He sat on the sofa beside the lone teacup, picked up the half-full cup Nian Jinsui had left behind, took a sip of the now slightly cooled tea, and frowned.
“Jinsui doesn’t like Pu’er tea. Don’t serve it to him again.”
“Yes, yes, Second Young Master. I’ll remember.”
Qin Chengyu stood up and began walking upstairs.
He said meaningfully,
“Butler Wu, you’re getting old. If you keep messing up like this, you might as well retire.”
Butler Wu panicked.
Being the Qin family’s butler meant prestige and profit.
He still had at least ten years left in him.
He couldn’t afford to lose the job now.
He hurriedly promised,
“Second Young Master, I swear I won’t make the same mistake again!”
Qin Chengyu didn’t stop walking and only said coolly,
“I only give one chance.”
He ignored Butler Wu’s repeated thanks behind him.
Who served as the butler wasn’t important. Butler Wu simply knew the Qin family best.
This wasn’t the right time to replace him.
But Qin Chengyu needed him to understand who was in charge.
In his room, Nian Jinsui felt a little emotional.
He hadn’t expected Chu Heting to see through his act, but the result wasn’t bad—Chu Heting’s attitude toward him had softened.
This way, once the mission was over and he no longer had to keep up this damned persona, it wouldn’t be too awkward to face Chu Heting again.
Feeling great, Nian Jinsui turned on his computer, ready to continue researching music academies, when he suddenly heard the door open.
It was Qin Chengyu.
His expression was calm, betraying no emotion.
Apart from his eyes being slightly darker than usual, he looked no different.
“Chengyu, how come you’re home so early today?”
But right after speaking, Nian Jinsui realized the reason.
“You knew Liang’an and Brother Ting came over?”
Qin Chengyu approached, his gaze slowly roaming across Nian Jinsui’s face.
Instead of answering, he asked,
“Jinsui, you seem to be in a good mood. Is it because of Chu Heting?”
Nian Jinsui’s expression immediately darkened.
This guy has such a wild imagination…
Okay, fine,
it was kind of related to Chu Heting,
but coming from Qin Chengyu’s mouth, it just sounded so wrong.
“There you go again!”
Nian Jinsui couldn’t be bothered to deal with his nonsense,
stood up, and moved to the sofa, playing with his phone.
Qin Chengyu glanced at the computer screen and seemed to catch a flicker of something in his eyes.
He bent down, took something out of the drawer, and walked over to sit beside Nian Jinsui.
Seeing him come over, Nian Jinsui didn’t look up and said mockingly,
“I think you might as well quit your job. That way, whenever someone visits me, you can just run home and keep an eye on me. Doesn’t that sound exhausting?”
“Jinsui, I’d love to,”
Qin Chengyu said seriously, as if he had actually considered it.
“I’d love to keep you by my side 24/7. But I have to get stronger, better, more outstanding—only then will I be worthy of you. Only then can no one take you away from me.”
Nian Jinsui was stunned.
Qin Chengyu’s words made it sound like he wanted to take control of the Qin family for his sake.
In the book,
Qin Chengyu had fought for power to get revenge on both him and the Qin family.
But the man in front of him seemed to be doing it all just to keep him.
Something stirred subtly in Nian Jinsui’s heart.
His voice softened as he tried to reassure him,
“Chengyu, you don’t have to think like that. You’re already amazing. No one wants to take me away, and I’ve already promised you—I’ll stay by your side.”
