Chapter 94 You’re Just Abandoning Me

Nian Yixin’s gaze flickered.

“Did I? You must be misremembering.”

“Xiaoxin…”

Lin Shuqian lowered his voice, feigning anger, but his eyes were filled with indulgence and affection.

Qin Chengyu had no time to care about others’ sweetness.

His mind was consumed with planning tomorrow’s dishes—

what could he cook to make Nian Jinsui forgive him?

Nian Jinsui was in turmoil.

He was fully aware that his actions were hurting Qin Chengyu.

Since the previous night, Xilu had occasionally sent reminders,

informing him of how much psychological harm he was causing Qin Chengyu.

Nian Jinsui didn’t want to hurt Qin Chengyu.

He tried hard to convince himself that Qin Chengyu wouldn’t treat him like the character in the novel.

They were friends, brothers...

But what about after he sent Qin Chengyu back to the Qin family?

Would Qin Chengyu feel abandoned?

Would he hold a grudge?

His thoughts were a tangled mess.

He couldn’t figure out what to do or how to face Qin Chengyu.

That night, Nian Jinsui slept poorly again, tossing and turning as dreams of Qin Chengyu torturing him filled his mind.

When he woke up, he was greeted with yet another notification from the system:

[Mission Alert: Host, send Qin Chengyu back to the Qin family today.]

Nian Jinsui immediately protested.

“Xilu, you said three days! You can’t count the day before yesterday as part of the three days!”

[The system does not negotiate.]

Muttering curses under his breath, Nian Jinsui got out of bed and glanced at the time.

It was almost noon.

“Even after sleeping so long, I feel like I haven’t slept at all… still so tired…”

After freshening up, Nian Jinsui dragged his exhausted body downstairs.

The moment he entered the dining room, the aroma of food hit him.

Yet, oddly, the house seemed empty.

“Sauerkraut fish today?”

Spotting several dishes he liked on the table, Nian Jinsui sneakily took a piece of the fish and his eyes lit up.

“Did we change chefs? This is even more flavorful!”

“Dad? Father?”

Nian Jinsui looked around but saw no sign of Lin Shuqian or Nian Yixin.

“Still in their room, maybe?”

he muttered. Normally, they would’ve come downstairs by now.

Just then, his gaze shifted, and he spotted Qin Chengyu walking out of the kitchen.

Qin Chengyu was wearing an apron and carrying a plate of food.

He looked at Nian Jinsui and said,

“Jinsui, it’s time to eat.”

“You made this?”

Nian Jinsui asked in surprise.

“Yes.”

Qin Chengyu removed his apron and sat down at the table.

“Try it and see if it’s any good.”

Nian Jinsui had an inkling of Qin Chengyu’s intentions and forced himself to sit down calmly.

“Just the two of us? Where are Dad and Father?”

“They went out for a picnic today,”

Qin Chengyu replied, handing Nian Jinsui a bowl of rice.

Nian Jinsui understood—they were giving him and Qin Chengyu space to talk.

Accepting the bowl, he nodded and thanked Qin Chengyu.

As he tried several dishes, he couldn’t help but ask,

“Is this your first time cooking?”

“Yes. I followed online tutorials. Do you like it?”

Qin Chengyu’s eyes were filled with anticipation.

Nian Jinsui pursed his lips.

He knew it!

This villainous prodigy even had a knack for cooking.

“It’s delicious,”

Nian Jinsui admitted honestly.

Qin Chengyu finally smiled.

“If you like it, I’ll cook more for you next time.”

Nian Jinsui didn’t reply.

There might not be a next time…

After a brief silence, Qin Chengyu cautiously asked,

“Jinsui, have you forgiven me? I won’t make you angry again...”

Nian Jinsui put down his chopsticks and sighed.

“Chengyu, I’m not angry.”

After all, Qin Chengyu had done all this for him.

How could he be angry?

More importantly, he had read the original novel and was prepared for Qin Chengyu’s ruthlessness.

“Then why are you unhappy? Why are you avoiding me?”

Qin Chengyu pressed.

“Because…”

Because the image of Ye Kang’s injuries and the nightmares still haunted him.

More than that, he didn’t know how to ask Qin Chengyu to return to the Qin family.

“Chengyu.”

Summoning his courage, Nian Jinsui continued,

“I have something to tell you.”

Qin Chengyu froze.

Nian Jinsui’s expression was one he had never seen before—serious and solemn.

A sinking feeling gripped his heart.

“Chengyu, you should go back to the Qin family.”

“What?”

Qin Chengyu’s pupils contracted, his gaze trembling in disbelief.

He had never imagined Nian Jinsui would say such a thing.

Taking a deep breath, Nian Jinsui steadied his voice and met Qin Chengyu’s gaze.

“I said, Qin Chengyu, you should go back to the Qin family. Today.”

“Jinsui, I know you’re upset because I hid things from you and was too harsh with Ye Kang… I was wrong! I truly understand now! I won’t do it again. You can punish me however you want—hit me, scold me—but please… don’t send me away. I want to stay with the Nian family…”

Tears welled in Qin Chengyu’s eyes, his voice trembling with desperation.

For someone as cold and proud as Qin Chengyu to show such vulnerability was heart-wrenching.

Nian Jinsui couldn’t bear to look at him, lowering his gaze to avoid those pleading eyes.

He wanted to say:

"I don’t want to send you away either, but this is a mission from the system. If I don’t do it, I’ll die.

Besides, you’ll soon become the head of the Qin family. Then no one will dare bully you.

Don’t worry. In a few months, I’ll come to be with you.”

But he couldn’t say any of this.

Qin Chengyu’s heart felt like it was being torn apart.

Just a short while ago, Nian Jinsui had been so kind to him.

Now, he couldn’t even meet his eyes.

He walked over, knelt beside Nian Jinsui, and grabbed his wrist.

His eyes were bloodshot as he spoke, each word trembling with pain:

“Jinsui, look at me! You said that no matter what I did, you’d forgive me. You said that! You promised to protect me, to never let anyone hurt me! And now… you’re really sending me back to the Qin family?”

Nian Jinsui turned his head, forcing himself to meet Qin Chengyu’s gaze.

Tears stung his eyes as he struggled to speak.

“Chengyu… I’m not blaming you… I’m just…”

Before he could finish, Qin Chengyu cut him off with a bitter smile.

“You’re just abandoning me…”

Qin Chengyu could see it now—no matter how much he begged,

Nian Jinsui wouldn’t change his mind.

So why continue to grovel?

As Nian Jinsui watched the light fade from Qin Chengyu’s eyes, his heart ached unbearably.

Yet, he couldn’t offer any explanation.

At that moment, Housekeeper Liu entered the room.

He had been instructed by Nian Yixin to leave the house empty at noon,

giving the two young men space to reconcile.

But the tension in the room was unmistakable,

leaving Liu unsure whether to stay or leave.
