Nian Jinsui laughed in exasperation.
"Qin Chengyu! Are you seriously underestimating me? Do you think I care so much about being the
Nian family's young master? Even if I were kicked out, I can still support myself!"
"I didn’t mean to underestimate you. I just want you to be happy."
All Qin Chengyu knew was that Nian Jinsui seemed to be living a happy life with the Nian family,
and he couldn’t allow anyone to disrupt that.
"If you really want me to be happy, then stop hiding things from me and doing terrible things behind my back!"
Nian Jinsui grabbed Qin Chengyu's hand and pulled him forward.
"Where’s the basement? Take me there, now."
In the end, Qin Chengyu obediently led the way.
Even though Nian Jinsui was aware that Qin Chengyu had beaten Ye Kang,
he was still startled and uneasy when he saw Ye Kang’s battered and bruised state.
Turning to Qin Chengyu, Nian Jinsui asked,
“Chengyu... were you really planning to kill him?”
Qin Chengyu hesitated but nodded. He didn’t want to lie to Nian Jinsui.
Nian Jinsui shivered.
“That’s a human life...”
He knew Ye Kang wasn’t a good person and had done plenty of bad things,
but his actions didn’t warrant losing his life.
It was a living, breathing human being.
If this were a novel, he might have clapped in approval.
But this was his real life...
"He was plotting against you."
Qin Chengyu's gaze was dark as he looked at Nian Jinsui,
his expression calm as if there was nothing wrong with his decision.
Nian Jinsui was at a loss for words.
Indeed, when he read the novel, he already knew Qin Chengyu was ruthless.
How could a short period of domestic harmony have changed his nature?
Given the current situation, Nian Jinsui didn’t want to dwell on the morality of taking a life.
Saving Ye Kang’s life and avoiding further trouble was the priority.
To minimize complications, Ye Kang couldn’t be taken to the hospital by either Nian Jinsui or Qin Chengyu.
As part of a prominent family, the Nians had people specifically tasked with handling situations that required discretion.
Nian Jinsui quickly called Zhou Zhu to explain the situation.
Soon enough, someone came to take care of it.
Once Ye Kang was taken away, Nian Jinsui didn’t immediately return home.
Instead, he parked by the river and got out to feel the breeze.
Seeing Nian Jinsui’s troubled expression, Qin Chengyu offered,
“Jinsui, I’ll go ahead and buy some drinks.”
Nian Jinsui nodded and watched Qin Chengyu walk away, his unease growing.
The image of Ye Kang’s injuries lingered in his mind.
In the novel, when Nian Jinsui died at Qin Chengyu’s hands,
was it even more tragic than Ye Kang’s fate?
Qin Chengyu returned with the drinks.
“Jinsui, have something to drink.”
As Nian Jinsui reached for it,
he didn’t realize the cap had already been opened and accidentally spilled the drink on himself.
Qin Chengyu quickly went to the car to grab tissues,
but when he tried to help wipe the stain off, Nian Jinsui flinched and moved away.
“I’ll do it myself.”
Nian Jinsui took the tissue and quietly began cleaning up.
Qin Chengyu noticed the avoidance and even a hint of fear in Nian Jinsui’s eyes.
Was Jinsui afraid of him?
It must’ve been the earlier incident that scared him.
Qin Chengyu hurriedly apologized.
“Jinsui, I’m sorry. I know I was wrong. I promise I won’t hide anything from you again. I won’t do anything you disapprove of. Please don’t be angry.”
Noticing Nian Jinsui staring blankly, Qin Chengyu grew anxious.
“Jinsui?”
Nian Jinsui was distracted by the system’s sudden message.
[Mission Alert: Host, send Qin Chengyu back to the Qin family within three days.]
So the plot hadn’t truly gone off course.
Qin Chengyu was destined to return to the Qin family.
But now, this plot point had turned into his mission.
Nian Jinsui raised his eyes to look at Qin Chengyu.
How was he supposed to bring this up?
Although Qin Chengluo’s project was a success,
the system’s directive made it clear that the plot hadn’t derailed.
Qin Chengyu was still fated to become the head of the Qin family.
But Qin Chengyu didn’t know that.
The current Qin family was filled with treacherous wolves,
and sending him back there now felt unnecessarily cruel...
After a long internal struggle, Nian Jinsui forced a smile.
“Chengyu, it’s late. Let’s go home.”
Qin Chengyu’s lips moved as if to say something,
but he held back. He gazed deeply at Nian Jinsui before silently following him back to the car.
The next morning, Qin Chengyu prayed for everything to return to normal.
Attempting to lighten the mood, he greeted Nian Jinsui cheerfully,
“Good morning, Jinsui.”
Startled mid-sip of his milk, Nian Jinsui choked and coughed violently.
It wasn’t entirely his fault.
He hadn’t slept well the night before, plagued by nightmares.
In his dreams, he was imprisoned by Qin Chengyu,
tortured to the point of being unrecognizable—far worse than Ye Kang.
Still groggy, he had looked up to see the face from his nightmare and was naturally frightened.
Qin Chengyu stepped forward, intending to pat his back,
but Nian Jinsui instinctively moved away.
“I’m fine...”
Nian Jinsui muttered.
Qin Chengyu froze mid-action, his gaze dimming. Jinsui still hadn’t forgiven him...
The tension between them was palpable, even Nian Yixin and Lin Shuqian noticed.
However, they assumed it was just a minor spat and didn’t think much of it.
During lunch, Nian Yixin tried to ease the mood.
“Jinsui, it’s such a lovely day today. Why don’t you go for a jog with Chengyu this afternoon?”
Nian Jinsui’s lashes trembled as he lowered his head and continued eating.
“No, I’m a bit tired lately. I don’t feel like moving.”
Lin Shuqian asked,
“Are you feeling unwell?”
“No, just need some rest,”
Nian Jinsui said hastily before finishing his meal and excusing himself.
“Father, Dad, I’m done. I’ll head back to my room.”
As Nian Jinsui left, the light in Qin Chengyu’s eyes faded completely.
Curious, Nian Yixin asked,
“Chengyu, what’s going on between you and Jinsui?”
“It’s my fault. I made him angry,”
Qin Chengyu admitted, his tone subdued.
“You just need to apologize properly, and everything will be fine. Jinsui is easy to appease,”
Nian Yixin said with a reassuring smile before signaling Lin Shuqian.
“Brother Shuqian, give him some advice.”
Lin Shuqian nodded.
“How about this? Tomorrow, I don’t have work, so Yixin and I will go on a day trip. You’ll have the house to yourself and Jinsui. Make him a few dishes—doesn’t matter if they’re good or not. Trust me, he’ll forgive you.”
Qin Chengyu’s face brightened slightly.
“Thank you, Uncle Lin.”
Nian Yixin agreed enthusiastically.
“That’s how he won me over. He’s a great cook.”
Lin Shuqian smirked.
“Yixin, you used to say my cooking was terrible back then.”
