Qin Chengyu sneered; it was already too late for begging.
He understood human nature well—he could control Xiang Liumei because she had a weakness.
But Ye Kang was different.
For people like him, promises were nothing but a joke.
If spared today, he could easily become a threat tomorrow.
The best way to deal with such scum was simple:
Eliminate the root of the problem.
It was just past ten o’clock when Nian Jinsui felt a bit hungry.
Heading downstairs for some fruit, he bumped into Lin Shuqian,
who had just returned from a business dinner.
“Father, have you been drinking?”
As Nian Jinsui approached, he caught the scent of alcohol on Lin Shuqian.
“Just a few glasses.”
Lin Shuqian nodded, his mind still clear.
Even at social events, he was concerned about Nian Yixin,
who was pregnant, so he had come home early.
He then asked,
“How’s your dad tonight? Did he eat well? Is he asleep now?”
“He had a good appetite tonight. I even took him for a walk. He’s probably asleep by now.”
Nian Jinsui, knowing Lin Shuqian’s concerns for Nian Yixin, answered thoroughly.
Lin Shuqian’s expression eased, but he mentioned another matter:
“By the way, I heard from Uncle Liu that Chengyu hasn’t come home yet.”
“He’s been busy with something lately. He’ll probably be back later,”
Nian Jinsui replied on Qin Chengyu’s behalf.
Indeed, Qin Chengyu had been going out frequently these days.
Though Lin Shuqian was unaware, Nian Jinsui had some idea.
After all, sabotaging Qin Chengluo’s project wasn’t a simple task,
so it made sense for Qin Chengyu to be busy.
Lin Shuqian didn’t press further but shifted to another topic:
“Jinsui, I heard some news tonight about the Qin family. Qin Zhuo is planning to appoint Qin Chengluo as the next head of the Qin family.”
“What? That’s impossible!”
Nian Jinsui’s face darkened, and he fired off a series of questions.
“Is this information accurate? What about the project Qin Chengluo was handling? Is it finished? Was it successful?”
“It’s because the project Qin Chengluo was in charge of was a complete success that this news is spreading. However, the official announcement might take some time,”
Lin Shuqian explained, puzzled by Nian Jinsui’s shock.
“Jinsui, why are you so surprised? Didn’t we discuss before that Qin Chengluo’s project was heavily backed? It was unlikely to fail.”
Nian Jinsui was so stunned he couldn’t even respond.
How could this happen?
Why hadn’t Qin Chengyu sabotaged Qin Chengluo’s project?
What had he been busy with all this time?
After a moment, Nian Jinsui stammered,
“It’s nothing... I just think... Qin Chengluo isn’t fit for that position.”
“Exactly. Anyone with sense can see that. But Qin Zhuo only cares about Alpha bloodlines,”
Lin Shuqian said, patting Nian Jinsui’s shoulder to comfort him.
“Jinsui, don’t overthink it. This might not be so bad. This way, Chengyu will stay with us.”
Nian Jinsui couldn’t focus on a word Lin Shuqian was saying.
His mind was buzzing with noise, and he responded half-heartedly.
Seeing his distraction, Lin Shuqian simply told him to get some rest and went back to his room.
Standing there in a daze, Nian Jinsui entered a mental storm.
He could guess why Qin Chengyu hadn’t sabotaged Qin Chengluo’s project.
In the novel, Qin Chengyu, tormented daily by Nian Jinsui,
wanted nothing more than to leave the Nian family,
so he returned to the Qin family to seek revenge.
But now, the current Qin Chengyu had no intention of leaving the Nian family.
The problem was, the plot had gone off the rails.
Why hadn’t the system intervened or assigned him a task to fix it?
At that moment, the system finally spoke.
[Mission Alert: Host, proceed immediately to the following address and rescue Ye Kang from Qin Chengyu’s hands.]
Nian Jinsui was shocked.
“Xilu, explain! Why is Ye Kang in Qin Chengyu’s hands? What’s going on?”
[Qin Chengyu discovered that Xiang Liumei and Ye Kang were working together to extort you. He’s now kidnapped Ye Kang.]
Without hesitation, Nian Jinsui grabbed his car keys and rushed out the door.
Ye Kang was barely breathing, already unconscious.
Qin Chengyu stared coldly at Ye Kang, his eyes as if gazing at a dead man.
He silently calculated how to deal with him.
Suddenly, the vibration of his phone interrupted his thoughts.
He pulled it out and glanced at the screen.
It was a call from Nian Jinsui.
Qin Chengyu cast a look at the unconscious Ye Kang and stepped out of the basement before answering the call.
“Chengyu, where are you?”
Detecting the cold, angry tone in Nian Jinsui’s voice, Qin Chengyu softened his tone.
“Jinsui, I’m still outside handling something. I’ll be back late.”
Just as he finished speaking, a knock on the door caught his attention.
Qin Chengyu frowned. This house, which had belonged to his father, had been vacant for years.
How could anyone find their way here?
Then his eyes flickered as he realized—the same knocking sound had just echoed through the phone.
A chill ran down his spine as he heard Nian Jinsui’s calm, clipped words:
“Open the door.”
Qin Chengyu never expected Nian Jinsui to find this place, but there was no avoiding it now.
“Jinsui.”
Opening the door, Qin Chengyu was greeted by Nian Jinsui’s furious glare.
Nian Jinsui slipped inside, shut the door, and got straight to the point.
“Is Ye Kang here?”
After a brief silence, Qin Chengyu nodded.
He figured lying would only make Nian Jinsui angrier.
Noticing Nian Jinsui was still in his pajamas, he asked,
“Jinsui, why didn’t you change before coming out?”
“I was afraid if I were a minute later, it’d be too late,”
Nian Jinsui snapped, his anger flaring as he spotted a faint bloodstain on Qin Chengyu’s clothes.
Qin Chengyu was puzzled.
“How did you know I was here?”
Nian Jinsui shot him an annoyed glare.
“You can investigate me, but I can’t investigate you?”
“I didn’t investigate you; it was a coincidence...”
Qin Chengyu mumbled, suddenly feeling guilty.
“Where’s Ye Kang? Does he know you brought him here?”
“He’s in the basement. He doesn’t know it’s me.”
Nian Jinsui let out a sigh of relief.
“Good. Knock him out again, and we’ll take him to the hospital.”
“He’s already unconscious.”
“...Fine.”
As Nian Jinsui moved to enter the house, his wrist was suddenly grabbed.
Qin Chengyu’s voice was low but resolute.
“Ye Kang tried to harm you. I can’t let him go.”
Nian Jinsui turned to meet Qin Chengyu’s dark, intense gaze.
“Chengyu, do you know I’m not a child of the Nian family?”
Qin Chengyu’s expression remained calm, his eyes steady. Instead of answering, he said,
“As long as Ye Kang stays quiet, no one will ever know.”
