Chapter 91 Using Your Weak Spot in Exchange

The private detective worked efficiently, and two days later, Qin Chengyu received a response.

It turned out that the department supervisor, who had been fired by the Nian family, had passed away a year later.

He had a wife named Xiang Liumei, who worked as a nurse at the Imperial Capital Hospital and was now retired.

The response included a photo of her.

Qin Chengyu immediately recognized her as the person Nian Jinsui had met at the café.

"A nurse at the Imperial Capital Hospital..."

Qin Chengyu pondered. It was likely that Nian Jinsui was also born in that hospital.

Everything started to piece together.

After some quiet contemplation, Qin Chengyu had almost figured out the entire story.

He continued reading and raised an eyebrow.

Xiang Liumei also had a son who had been raised abroad.

Judging by the timing, Xiang Liumei sent her son abroad shortly after Nian Jinsui was born.

It seemed she was worried that the truth would be exposed and implicate her son.

A faint smile appeared on Qin Chengyu's lips, his eyes revealing a complex depth.

Xiang Liumei had touched his reverse scale, so he would target her weakness in return.

Fair enough.

Xiang Liumei had been waiting for Nian Jinsui's call these past few days but was surprised when it was her son who contacted her first.

"Son, what's the matter? I’ll be joining you in a few days. Can’t we talk then? Why call now?"

Xiang Liumei had already decided that after receiving the money from Nian Jinsui, she would go to Country M to reunite with her son.

"Mom, I got promoted today. My boss suddenly appointed me as department supervisor..."

"That's fantastic news! My son is truly outstanding,"

Xiang Liumei exclaimed, overjoyed, unaware of her son's subdued tone.

"Mom, it was my boss's friend who recommended me, but I don’t know him. He just called me and said he knows you..."

Xiang Liumei was stunned.

"Knows me? How could your boss’s friend possibly know me?"

"He said he knows what you’re planning. He asked you to change your phone number and leave Country C by tomorrow. Otherwise, he’ll make sure I experience what my dad did—being fired and blacklisted by every company. Mom, what are you up to? Please don’t do anything reckless! I don’t want to lose my job!"

Xiang Liumei was shocked.

She had thought Nian Jinsui would be too afraid of exposure to make a move, but she never expected him to go so far as to use her son to counter-threaten her!

Of course, it wasn’t Nian Jinsui who made the threat—it was Qin Chengyu.

With his exceptional talent for investment, Qin Chengyu had built a network abroad while avoiding detection by the Qin family.

Although dealing with Xiang Liumei domestically might have required some thought, targeting her son in Country M was a simple matter.

"Son... I..."

Xiang Liumei was at a loss for words.

She had endured all these years for revenge.

She wanted Lin Shuqian and Nian Yixin to taste the pain she had suffered.

But if she had to choose between revenge and her son’s future?

"Mom, no matter what you’re planning, just give it up! I’ll book your ticket so you can come to Country M right away! Do you want me to end up like Dad? That person also told you to keep quiet, not contact Ye Kang, and to write down everything you know about the situation. He said to leave it with the phone card you’ve been using to contact Ye Kang in the mailbox."

Xiang Liumei’s mental defenses crumbled.

How could this person not know the details but still know about Ye Kang?

Nian Jinsui shouldn’t know that Ye Kang was involved in this matter...

It seemed the person threatening her wasn’t Nian Jinsui.

But who could it be?

Her mind was in chaos, her back drenched in sweat. After a long pause, she stammered:

"I... I’ll leave. I’ll leave immediately. Son... don’t worry. I won’t do anything. You’re the most important thing to me..."

Xiang Liumei made up her mind. Her son was her lifeline.

No matter how much she wanted revenge, she couldn’t risk her son’s future.

A week had passed since Nian Jinsui last met with Xiang Liumei.

He had expected her to at least call and pressure him, but there had been no word from her.

Nian Jinsui had already decided not to give Xiang Liumei a penny.

As for her demand to hire someone to harm her enemies, he had no intention of complying.

Since the system hadn’t assigned him a task, he decided to do nothing and let Xiang Liumei expose the truth herself.

Meanwhile, Ye Kang received a message from Xiang Liumei, claiming she had obtained 80 million yuan and wanted to meet him that evening.

Overjoyed, Ye Kang couldn’t wait to go.

The meeting spot was a parking lot of an old residential building.

"What kind of lousy place is this?"

Ye Kang muttered as he got out of his car.

He had barely taken a few steps when he felt a sharp pain at the back of his neck and lost consciousness.

When Ye Kang came to, he was enveloped in darkness.

His eyes were blindfolded, and his hands and feet were bound.

He couldn’t move.

Struggling proved futile; he felt like a punching bag tied to a pole.

He shouted desperately:

"Xiang Liumei! What are you doing? I’ve got nothing against you! Why did you kidnap me?"

Before he could finish speaking, a hard kick landed in his stomach, making him cry out in pain.

The force of the kick made him reconsider.

Xiang Liumei was just an old woman; she couldn’t possibly be this strong.

Nor did she seem to have any accomplices.

Was it possible the person who kidnapped him wasn’t Xiang Liumei?

Could it be that Nian Jinsui had found out about him?

"Is this Nian Jinsui? Did he send you?"

Ye Kang shouted, only to be met with several punches to his face and body.

Moments later, his face was swollen like a bun, his mouth filled with the metallic taste of blood, and he couldn’t utter a complete sentence.

Finally, after venting his anger, Qin Chengyu felt a bit more at ease.

Looking at Ye Kang, who was groaning in pain, Qin Chengyu’s eyes were cold and filled with contempt.

A person like Ye Kang didn’t even deserve to speak Nian Jinsui’s name.

"Who are you... What do you want... Why did you capture me..."

Ye Kang asked weakly, receiving no reply.

Panic consumed him.

The silence suggested his captor didn’t want anything from him—was this person planning to kill him?

The more he thought about it, the more terrified he became.

Trembling with fear, he cried and begged for mercy:

"I was wrong... I won’t do it again... I was foolish and made a mistake! I swear... I won’t tell anyone about this. Please, let me go!"
