Wait a minute...
Nian Jinsui suddenly recalled something—five years old?
When Qin Chengyu was five, his parents were still alive...
Looking at this cheerful and lively version of Qin Chengyu,
Nian Jinsui felt an ache in his chest, as though something heavy had rolled over his heart.
If Qin Chengyu hadn’t endured the pain and loss that shaped his stoic nature,
would he have grown up as carefree and happy as the child standing before him?
“Suisui Wifey, Wifey Suisui...”
Nian Jinsui: ...
Yet, he’s still insufferable.
His fists clenched involuntarily.
“Qin Chengyu, shut up!”
The stern rebuke immediately silenced Qin Chengyu,
who pouted and looked at him with teary eyes.
“Suisui, you’re so mean.”
Forcing himself to calm down, Nian Jinsui softened his tone.
“Alright, Chengyu, how about you come to the hospital with me, hmm?”
Qin Chengyu tilted his head.
“But Suisui, I’m not sick. Why do I have to go to the hospital?”
“I’m the one who’s sick...”
Nian Jinsui immediately feigned weakness,
adding a few coughs for effect.
“Cough, cough... Come with me to see a doctor, won’t you?”
Qin Chengyu gave him a look like he was an idiot.
“Suisui, you’re lying to me again.”
Caught, Nian Jinsui dropped the act.
“Fine, Chengyu, I’ll tell you the truth. You ate something bad, so we need to see a doctor. Be good and stop running around, alright?”
Qin Chengyu hesitated before responding,
“I’ll go with you, but you have to promise me something.”
“Anything! Tell me, what is it?”
Nian Jinsui thought,
What could a five-year-old possibly ask for?
Ice cream?
A trip to the amusement park?
Whatever it was, he could promise and sort it out later.
Once they got to the hospital, Chengyu would be cured, and there’d be no need to follow through.
Qin Chengyu smiled sweetly.
“I want you to kiss me.”
Nian Jinsui’s eye twitched.
He hadn’t expected poisoned Qin Chengyu to turn into such a little rascal.
“Aren’t you five? What’s going on in that head of yours, kid?”
“But you’re my wife! It’s perfectly normal for a wife to kiss her husband.”
Qin Chengyu’s reply was firm and shameless.
“I’m not!”
“You are!”
“I’m not!”
“You are!”
Nian Jinsui:
I give up. Let the world end...
“Alright, let’s compromise. We’ll go to the hospital first, and after you see the doctor, I’ll kiss you. Deal?”
Nian Jinsui tried to bargain.
“No deal. You have to kiss me first, then I’ll go to the hospital.”
Qin Chengyu wasn’t so easily fooled.
Seeing Qin Chengyu’s resolute expression, Nian Jinsui grew more anxious.
The longer they delayed, the worse things could get.
What if the poison left permanent damage?
“Fine, fine! I’ll kiss you!”
Nian Jinsui quickly leaned over and gave Qin Chengyu a loud, exaggerated kiss on the cheek.
Fortunately, this appeased the "five-year-old,"
who grinned in satisfaction and held Nian Jinsui’s hand as they headed back to the car.
Once seated in the car, Nian Jinsui said,
“Buckle your seatbelt.”
“But I don’t know how...”
Qin Chengyu replied, sitting obediently and looking pitiful.
Sighing, Nian Jinsui leaned over to help.
As he pulled the seatbelt across, he suddenly felt a cool sensation against his cheek.
Looking up, he saw Qin Chengyu’s mischievous smile.
Qin Chengyu:
“Hehe.”
“You little rascal.”
ian Jinsui grumbled, securing the seatbelt before starting the car.
At the hospital, Nian Jinsui dragged Qin Chengyu to the emergency room.
“Doctor, he’s been poisoned by mushrooms and is hallucinating. Please help him.”
“Calm down,”
the doctor reassured.
“Go pay the fees, and we’ll handle it from here.”
Nian Jinsui nodded but found his hand caught in Qin Chengyu’s grip.
“Suisui, don’t leave.”
For the first time, Nian Jinsui saw fear in Qin Chengyu’s eyes.
The usual calm and collected aura was gone, replaced by vulnerability.
“Don’t worry, Chengyu. I’ll be right outside. Be a good boy and listen to the doctor, okay?”
The young doctor couldn’t help but mentally curse.
Boy?
I’m barely older than you!
“Alright, but promise you’ll wait for me outside.”
Qin Chengyu reluctantly released his hand.
After paying the fees,
Nian Jinsui returned to the waiting area and searched online for mushroom poisoning symptoms.
Excitement, hallucinations...
No wonder he’s so hyper.
That explains the constant talking.
He also read a story about someone who, after mushroom poisoning,
thought they were Ultraman and started fighting imaginary monsters.
Nian Jinsui:
Well, I guess Chengyu isn’t that strange.
Eventually, Qin Chengyu was wheeled out on a gurney, looking pale and weak.
“Suisui, I feel awful...”
Qin Chengyu extended his hand toward Nian Jinsui.
Gripping his hand tightly, Nian Jinsui anxiously asked the nurse,
“How is he?”
“No need to worry. His stomach’s been pumped, and we’re administering fluids. He’ll recover soon.”
Relieved, Nian Jinsui followed them to the ward.
Lying in the hospital bed, Qin Chengyu weakly asked,
“Suisui, am I dying?”
“Don’t overthink it. Didn’t you hear what the nurse said? You’ll be fine soon.”
“But I remember... my mom and dad both went to the hospital, and then they never came back.”
Nian Jinsui froze. Was that why Qin Chengyu had such a strong aversion to hospitals?
“Chengyu, don’t worry. You’ll be fine. Just sleep, and when you wake up, you’ll feel better.”
“I trust you, Suisui. But you can’t lie to me anymore.”
“I won’t.”
“Suisui, will you leave me? Will you always stay by my side?”
Qin Chengyu suddenly tightened his grip on Nian Jinsui’s hand.
Nian Jinsui patted his hand reassuringly.
“I won’t leave you. I’ll always stay with you. Now sleep, Chengyu.”
