Chapter 86 Little Couple’s Tricks

After getting Nian Jinsui’s reassurance,

Qin Chengyu finally relaxed,

closing his eyes and drifting into a deep sleep.

Nian Jinsui glanced at the time and quickly called Nian Yixin to explain what had happened.

Worried that Nian Jinsui might be too exhausted to drive back safely, Nian Yixin arranged for a driver to pick them up.

Hanging up, Nian Jinsui observed Qin Chengyu’s pale face and furrowed brows.

His lips mumbled softly, repeating, “Suisui, Suisui,” even in his sleep.

A pang of sorrow struck Nian Jinsui’s heart.

Qin Chengyu had suffered so much growing up in the Qin family.

How could he not feel distressed?

But soon, very soon, Qin Chengyu would rise above it all and reclaim what was rightfully his.

Gently patting the back of Qin Chengyu’s hand, Nian Jinsui murmured soothingly,

“Chengyu, I’m here. Don’t be afraid.”

When Qin Chengyu finally settled into a more peaceful sleep,

Nian Jinsui tried to step out for some fresh air.

However, Qin Chengyu’s hand held onto his tightly,

and he didn’t want to risk waking him by pulling away.

Resigned, Nian Jinsui sat back down, intending to pass the time by playing games on his phone.

Suddenly, Xilü’s voice interrupted his gaming session.

[Reminder: This month, the host’s damage score for Qin Chengyu is 25 points, including 20 physical damage points and 5 psychological damage points.]

Nian Jinsui was surprised.

Did this mean Qin Chengyu’s poisoning had been counted against him?

But it wasn’t like he had been the one to poison him!

Not wanting to risk losing those points, Nian Jinsui decided not to question it.

Xilü’s scoring system had always been a mystery,

and the extra points would save him from having to find other ways to complete the month’s damage task.

By the time Qin Chengyu stirred awake, Nian Jinsui had already finished several rounds of his game.

“Jinsui...”

As soon as Nian Jinsui heard his name, he knew the “five-year-old” had returned to his normal self.

“Chengyu, how are you feeling?”

“I’m fine.”

“Wait here. I’ll go get the doctor.”

Nian Jinsui got up and left the room.

As the warmth of Nian Jinsui’s hand faded, Qin Chengyu’s thoughts began to swirl.

Fragments of memories and words from earlier flashed through his mind.

Nian Jinsui had kissed him...

After a brief check-up, the doctor said,

“He’s fine now. Once this IV finishes, he can go home.”

“Thank you, doctor. I really appreciate it,”

Nian Jinsui replied earnestly.

The doctor smiled at Qin Chengyu.

“You’re lucky to have such a caring boyfriend. He was so worried about you earlier.”

The nurse added,

“Yes, he stayed by your side the whole time without leaving, even for a moment.”

“I’m not his boyfriend...”

Nian Jinsui quickly explained, redirecting the conversation toward Qin Chengyu.

“Do you remember what happened earlier?”

Qin Chengyu paused, then shook his head.

“No.”

Relieved, Nian Jinsui thought,

Thank goodness he doesn’t remember the kissing and the absurd “wife” antics.

That would’ve been too awkward to explain.

The doctor and nurse exchanged knowing glances and left the room, smiling.

These two… such a typical little couple act.

Well, we won’t ruin their fun.

Seeing Qin Chengyu’s blank expression, Nian Jinsui couldn’t help but tease,

“Well, you don’t remember? You were clinging to my leg, calling me ‘Grandpa.’ Want to try saying it again for me now?”

Qin Chengyu: ...

Would it be too late to say he actually did remember?

“Alright, alright, I’m just kidding.”

Nian Jinsui sobered up.

“Chengyu, we all ate the mushrooms, but you were the only one poisoned. Doesn’t that seem strange?”

Qin Chengyu’s eyes flickered.

Of course, someone had set him up, but their methods were too clumsy to be taken seriously.

The only mushrooms he’d eaten were grilled by Chu Hejun.

Given Chu Hejun’s history of animosity toward him, it wasn’t hard to figure out who was behind it.

Still, Qin Chengyu decided to play along.

He knew Nian Jinsui’s kind heart leaned toward protecting the underdog.

This incident, though unpleasant, had brought him closer to Nian Jinsui.

As for Chu Hejun, he could let it slide this time.

Qin Chengyu’s eyes narrowed slightly.

Chu Heting must’ve given him the idea.

“Jinsui,”

he said calmly,

“it’s probably just bad luck. Nothing more.”

“Maybe. Anyway, the important thing is that you’re okay.”

Just then, Nian Jinsui’s phone rang. It was Chu Hejun.

“Jinsui, how’s Qin Chengyu?”

“He’s fine now. We’ll head home soon.”

“That’s good. Jinsui, I’ve been thinking... Maybe it’s my fault. I might not have grilled the mushrooms thoroughly enough, which caused the poisoning. Can you tell Qin Chengyu I’m sorry?”

“Alright, I’ll let him know.”

Hanging up, Nian Jinsui relayed the message to Qin Chengyu.

Qin Chengyu nodded.

“It’s fine. I know it wasn’t intentional.”

But in his mind, he smirked.

How interesting...

Chu Hejun isn’t smart enough to come up with such an excuse on his own.

This must be Chu Heting’s handiwork.

Back at home, summer break offered no reprieve for Nian Jinsui.

His anxiety only grew as the days ticked closer to when Ning Liang’an’s true identity

—and his own—would come to light.

Meanwhile, at Imperial Hospital...

“Ye Kang, be honest with your mom. How long has it been since you last talked to Nian Shaoye? If you don’t make an effort to stay in touch, he’ll forget you even exist,”

scolded Mrs. Ye, who lay in bed receiving an IV.

“Mom, didn’t you say you weren’t feeling well? How do you still have the energy to nag me nonstop?”

Ye Kang replied, his impatience written all over his face.
