Although Ning Liang’an had already covered the diffuser, the fragrance had long filled the storage room, meaning he had been enduring the torment of his heat for over half an hour.
His mind was a haze, filled only with the knowledge that the person in front of him could alleviate his suffering. Deep down, he yearned for Chu Heting.
“I feel awful… Young Master Chu…”
Sweat glistened on Ning Liang’an’s forehead, his misty eyes brimming with helplessness. His body instinctively leaned against Chu Heting, lightly nuzzling his chest.
Chu Heting’s brows furrowed. Ning Liang’an’s pheromones had always been an intoxicating drug to him. Now, coupled with these subtle, intimate gestures, Chu Heting felt his grip on reason slipping away.
A voice in his head whispered,
Mark Ning Liang’an permanently. That way, he’ll be entirely yours.
But his strong self-control reminded him that Ning Liang’an hadn’t fully accepted him yet. Taking advantage of him now would not only fail to win his heart but might push him further away, given Ning Liang’an’s stubborn personality.
Gritting his teeth, Chu Heting suppressed his burgeoning desires with great effort.
Just then, a voice came from outside the door.
“Young Master Chu, are you and Ning-classmate okay? I think I smell something strange inside,” said Ye Kang as he approached.
Chu Heting immediately realized the storage room had likely been tampered with, possibly with an aphrodisiac-like agent. Otherwise, his reactions wouldn’t have been this intense.
Concern for Ning Liang’an had clouded his judgment earlier, and Ning Liang’an’s pheromones had a deadly allure for him. Now more alert, Chu Heting acted decisively.
He scooped Ning Liang’an into his arms and carried him to a bench outside the warehouse, where the fresh air would help alleviate his symptoms.
Holding Ning Liang’an close, Chu Heting gently stroked his back, his tenderness starkly contrasted by the sharp suspicion in his gaze when he turned to Ye Kang.
“How did you know we were here?” he demanded.
Ye Kang had prepared his excuse in advance. “I saw you rushing out of the auditorium earlier, Young Master Chu, and I was worried something might’ve happened, so I followed. I hope you won’t blame me for being nosy.”
“You helped us. I won’t blame you,” Chu Heting replied, though his tone was dismissive. “But we’re fine now. You should leave.”
Ye Kang hesitated. Although Ning Liang’an was now out of the drug-laden storage room, he was still in heat. While Ye Kang couldn’t sense Omega pheromones, Chu Heting could, and Ye Kang couldn’t fully trust the situation.
Feigning concern, Ye Kang said, “But Ning-classmate looks really unwell. Why don’t I take him to the infirmary?”
Chu Heting’s expression darkened instantly, his voice laced with danger.
“When I tell you to leave, I mean it. Do you not understand?”
Startled by Chu Heting’s commanding tone, Ye Kang dared not defy him and slunk away reluctantly.
After Ye Kang left, Chu Heting leaned close to Ning Liang’an and whispered softly, “Liang’an, can I bite you just once?”
With the aphrodisiac and pheromone effects waning, Ning Liang’an’s rationality gradually returned. Gritting his teeth, he looked up and said weakly, “Young Master Chu, I need to go back to the auditorium… The gala isn’t over yet…”
Chu Heting gently ruffled Ning Liang’an’s hair, soothing him. “I know. Hejun’s performance hasn’t started yet. But if I take you to the infirmary now, you won’t make it back in time. If you allow me to give you a temporary mark, we can return to the auditorium in time.”
Without hesitation, Ning Liang’an agreed. “I’ll accept it…”
He even lowered his head voluntarily, exposing the smooth, pale nape of his neck to Chu Heting.
This obedient gesture melted Chu Heting’s heart. Wrapping Ning Liang’an tightly in his arms, he leaned down and buried his face in Ning Liang’an’s neck.
Meanwhile, Ye Kang stormed back toward the auditorium, fuming with frustration. Was his carefully crafted plan about to unravel?
At the entrance, he bumped into Xiao Liu, a classmate in the same ensemble performance as Chu Hejun.
“Xiao Liu, is your performance over already?” Ye Kang stopped him.
Xiao Liu, rushing past, replied, “Not yet, but we’re up next. I always get nervous before going onstage. I’m just heading to the restroom quickly.”
A sinister idea sparked in Ye Kang’s mind. If he couldn’t drive a wedge between Chu Heting and Ning Liang’an, he could at least make Ning Liang’an pay.
If the performance failed, Ning Liang’an, as the program manager, would surely be held responsible.
At the auditorium, Nian Jinsui was almost dozing off from boredom. “Why hasn’t the system given me a task yet? The ensemble performance should be soon, right?”
According to the novel’s plot, there were still plenty of tasks for him to handle. Was there even enough time left?
Suddenly, the system notification came through.
[Mission Notice: Host is required to proceed backstage immediately.]
Startled, Nian Jinsui bolted upright, his heart pounding. “Finally? Xilu, what do you want me to do? Trick Ning Liang’an? At least give me a heads-up!”
But the system offered no clarity, simply repeating the directive.
[Host is required to proceed backstage immediately.]
Qin Chengyu noticed Nian Jinsui abruptly stand and asked with concern,
“Jinsui, what’s wrong?”
“Nothing, I just need to use the restroom. I’ll be right back,”
Nian Jinsui replied casually.
“I’ll go with you,” Qin Chengyu offered, worried.
“No. Stay here. If Chu Hejun’s performance starts, notify me immediately.”
Qin Chengyu masked his reluctance well and nodded. “Alright.”
Nian Jinsui hurried backstage, only to find chaos unfolding.
