Chapter 28 "I Really Like You"

Seeing that Ning Liang An had calmed down, Chu He Ting relaxed slightly.

He stood up, took out his phone, and made a call to have someone deal with the drunken man outside.

Ning Liang An walked over to the table, poured a glass of water, and drank it in one gulp, finally easing the fear in his chest.

Yet, his heart continued to pound fiercely.

As he looked at Chu He Ting standing before him, Ning Liang An’s thoughts drifted back to the scent that lingered on Chu He Ting earlier, momentarily leaving him dazed.

Since his secondary gender had differentiated, Ning Liang An had encountered Alpha pheromones before, but they had always repelled him.

However, today, he found Chu He Ting’s pheromones oddly pleasant—a comforting scent he couldn’t quite describe.

Snapping out of his reverie, Ning Liang An parted his lips slightly.

“Young Master Chu, thank you for saving me…”

Chu He Ting immediately noticed something off about Ning Liang An. His heartbeat quickened as he caught sight of Ning Liang An’s misty eyes.

Concerned, he reached out to place a hand on Ning Liang An’s forehead.

“Liang An, how are you feeling?”

Seeing Chu He Ting’s hand approaching, Ning Liang An instinctively wanted to dodge but didn’t move.

His body didn’t reject Chu He Ting’s touch—in fact, it even seemed to anticipate it...

Is this just because of my heat? Or is it because…

Before that spark could ignite, Ning Liang An extinguished it with logic.

He took a step back, lowering his gaze.

“I’m fine…”

Noticing Ning Liang An’s deliberate distancing, a trace of disappointment flashed in Chu He Ting’s eyes.

“Liang An, do you really dislike me that much?”

Ning Liang An’s long lashes fluttered, but he couldn’t bring himself to say anything insincere.

Instead, he changed the subject.

“Young Master Chu, could I trouble you to buy me a suppressant?”

Chu He Ting opened his mouth to reply but paused, reconsidering.

Then, with a teasing tone, he said,

“I don’t really want to help you buy a suppressant.”

Startled, Ning Liang An glanced up, meeting Chu He Ting’s playful gaze.

Annoyed, he thought bitterly,

Does he intend to take advantage of me too? I thought he was better than this.

Clenching his teeth, Ning Liang An shot Chu He Ting an angry look and headed for the door.

“Fine, I’ll buy it myself. You should leave, Young Master Chu.”

Before he could take more than two steps, Chu He Ting grabbed his wrist.

“Liang An, don’t get upset. Have you forgotten? You’ve been taking fever-reducing medicine these past few days. If you use a suppressant now, the interaction between the two drugs could cause adverse effects.”

Ning Liang An froze, momentarily touched by Chu He Ting’s attentiveness.

But when he turned around, his face was stern again.

“Young Master Chu, how do you know I’ve been taking fever medicine? Have you been spying on me?”

Faced with Ning Liang An’s accusation, Chu He Ting felt a pang of helplessness but didn’t explain that it was Ning Liang An’s coworker who had told him.

He merely replied calmly, “Is that what you really think of me?”

Ning Liang An’s thoughts were in complete disarray.

He didn’t have the energy to argue with Chu He Ting.

Every glance at Chu He Ting’s face, every whiff of his scent, and every word he said only made Ning Liang An’s emotions more turbulent.

Deep inside, an inexplicable impulse was becoming harder and harder to suppress.

Chu He Ting noticed Ning Liang An’s unease and grew anxious.

He pulled Ning Liang An closer, gripping his shoulders firmly, and looked into his eyes.

“Liang An, let me bite you. It’ll make you feel better.”

Ning Liang An pressed his lips tightly together, his brows furrowing as he stared back at Chu He Ting, his response ambiguous.

“Liang An, it’s just a temporary mark. I won’t hurt you. I promise that once you’re better, I won’t bother you anymore.”

After a moment of hesitation, Ning Liang An gave a faint nod.

Relieved, Chu He Ting gently pulled Ning Liang An into his arms.

Their necks brushed as they embraced, and Ning Liang An felt a slight sting at the nape of his neck. Gradually, all his discomfort began to fade.

Closing his eyes in relief, Ning Liang An thought,

So this is what it feels like to be marked.

But in the next moment, his eyes snapped open as he heard Chu He Ting’s voice clearly in his ear.

“Ning Liang An, I really like you.”

Ning Liang An didn’t respond. He quietly pulled away from Chu He Ting’s arms, but the flicker of emotion in his eyes didn’t escape Chu He Ting’s notice.

His Liang An was moved.

“Young Master Chu, I’m fine now. You…”

Ning Liang An began, feeling much better after the temporary mark.

Before he could finish, Chu He Ting interrupted him.

“Liang An, you used me and now want to discard me? I didn’t think you’d burn bridges like this.”

Ning Liang An was momentarily speechless.

Chu He Ting had helped him so much tonight, yet he kept trying to send him away.

Feeling slightly guilty, Ning Liang An asked,

“Then how long do you want to stay? It’s late already…”

Chu He Ting’s eyes lit up as he seized the opportunity.

“Liang An, since it’s already so late, let me stay the night at your place as repayment for helping you today.”

Ning Liang An was stunned by the shameless request and refused immediately.

“There’s only one bed here, and no space for you.”

“That’s fine. I can sleep on the floor.”

Looking at Chu He Ting’s determined expression, Ning Liang An was at a loss for words.

He never thought the proud Young Master Chu would insist on sleeping on the floor of his modest home.

Finally, Ning Liang An relented.

“Fine, do whatever you want. But if you can’t stand it in the middle of the night, leave quietly and don’t wake me up.”

Chu He Ting’s eyes sparkled with victory.

He hadn’t expected Ning Liang An to agree.

Emboldened, he added,

“Liang An, you’re unwell and in your heat. You should rest at home for a couple of days.”

Ning Liang An frowned, clearly unwilling.

Chu He Ting pressed on.

“If you keep neglecting your health and collapse, how will you manage when school starts in a few days?”

After some thought, Ning Liang An decided to listen to Chu He Ting.

Taking a couple of days to recover would be better than falling ill during school.

“I’ll take two days off to rest,”

Ning Liang An agreed, glancing at Chu He Ting’s clothes, which were damp from his tears.

The memory of crying in Chu He Ting’s arms made Ning Liang An feel embarrassed.

“I dirtied your clothes. I’ll wash them for you.”

Pausing, he added,

“But I don’t have spare pajamas for you.”

Such a minor issue didn’t bother Chu He Ting. He quickly replied,

“I’ll have someone bring them over.”

True to his word, Chu He Ting made a call, and within moments, his assistant arrived with fresh clothes and toiletries.
