Ning Liang An steeled himself mentally and stepped out of his home, only to immediately encounter a staggering drunkard walking unsteadily.
The drunkard seemed to catch a whiff of something, muttering,
"Smells so good..."
His eyes lit up as his gaze locked onto Ning Liang'an.
In an instant, Ning Liang'an’s alarm bells went off.
As an Omega, he immediately recognized the man’s intent.
Dragging his weakened body, he turned and started running back.
Unfortunately, the drunkard, overwhelmed by the sweet allure of Ning Liang'an’s pheromones, lost all sense of reason and stumbled after him.
Ning Liang'an reached his door, fumbling to retrieve his keys from his pocket.
After much effort, he managed to unlock and push the door open, rushing inside.
But just as he was about to close it, a force from outside stopped him.
Panic surged through Ning Liang'an as he struggled to shut the door, but how could his strength compare to the strong drunk man outside?
"Open up... Let me love you properly... You smell so irresistible!"
The repulsive, lecherous words mixed with the stench of inferior Alpha pheromones and alcohol wafted through the crack in the door, making Ning Liang An feel nauseous.
Watching the gap in the door grow wider, Ning Liang'an’s face turned pale.
The outcome for an Omega in heat falling into the hands of a drunken Alpha was horrifying to imagine.
But he couldn’t hold on any longer.
With a powerful shove, the man burst the door open, knocking Ning Liang'an to the ground.
Looking up, Ning Liang'an saw the drunkard stumbling closer, fear gripping him.
But in the next moment, a sudden thud echoed, and the drunkard froze before collapsing to the ground.
Someone had appeared behind the drunkard and struck him unconscious with something.
Ning Liang'an’s eyes widened slightly.
In the dim light, he couldn’t make out the person’s face, but a familiar feeling washed over him, calming his terror.
-------------------For the past few days, Chu Heting had been secretly following Ning Liang An from a distance to ensure he got home safely.
One reason was that Chu Heting knew Ning Liang'an hadn’t fully recovered.
He’d heard from coworkers at the Imperial Building that Ning Liang'an had been running a low fever but refused to take time off to rest.
Chu Heting feared something might happen to him on the way home.
The other reason was simple: he wanted to see Ning Liang'an.
For the first time, Chu He Ting experienced the torment of missing someone so deeply that it consumed him.
Even though Ning Liang An had clearly rejected him at the Imperial Building, and he had promised not to disturb him again, emotions weren’t something one could control at will.
The less he saw Ning Liang'an, the more vivid Ning Liang'an’s image became in his mind.
So, Chu Heting decided he would simply watch from afar, ensuring Ning Liang'an made it home safely.
That way, he wouldn’t be intruding.
That evening, as usual, Chu Heting prepared to leave after seeing Ning Liang'an enter his home.
But after a few steps, a sweet scent drifted into his nose.
It was the scent of Omega pheromones.
Chu He Ting’s breath hitched.
Though it was his first time smelling this scent, it felt strangely familiar—like a dream he’d been searching for, now suddenly within reach.
He had fallen for Ning Liang'an because he had never met anyone with such unyielding vitality, someone so worthy of admiration.
But he’d never smelled Ning Liang An’s pheromones before.
Now, he immediately guessed that this irresistible scent must belong to Ning Liang An.
Before he could fully relish the realization, Chu He Ting’s instincts kicked in.
Ning Liang An wouldn’t release his pheromones for no reason—it must be his heat period.
And if Chu He Ting could smell it, others could too.
Ning Liang An could be in danger!
With his expression darkening, Chu He Ting turned and sprinted back to Ning Liang An’s residence.
Sure enough, he saw a man trying to force open the door.
Anger surged through Chu He Ting.
Spotting an old baseball bat in a nearby trash can, he grabbed it without hesitation and delivered a fierce blow to the man’s neck.
Seeing Ning Liang An pale and trembling on the floor, Chu He Ting’s heart ached.
Striding into the room, he kicked the drunkard out the door and tossed the bat aside.
Then he hurried over, crouched down, and pulled Ning Liang An into his arms.
“Liang An, I’m here. It’s okay now. Don’t be afraid,”
Chu He Ting murmured softly, gently patting Ning Liang An’s back to comfort him.
Instinctively, Ning Liang An clutched at Chu He Ting’s clothes, his dry lips parting slightly.
“Chu He Ting…”
“It’s me. I’m here,”
Chu He Ting’s deep, reassuring voice resonated in Ning Liang An’s ears, breaking down the last of his defenses.
He buried his face in Chu He Ting’s chest, sobbing uncontrollably.
Hearing Ning Liang An cry, Chu He Ting assumed he had been terrified. He continued soothing him.
“Liang An, it’s okay now. Don’t cry. I’ll protect you…”
But Ning Liang An was utterly exhausted—he’d been working nonstop like a spinning top, neglecting rest even when sick.
Now, amidst the vulnerability of his heat period and the scare he’d just endured, his emotions completely unraveled. His sobs grew louder and more uncontrollable.
Seeing this, Chu He Ting panicked.
He quickly remembered that compatible Alpha pheromones could calm an Omega’s emotions.
Releasing a subtle stream of his pheromones, he hoped Ning Liang An would find his scent comforting.
At the same time, the sweet fragrance from Ning Liang An’s nape filled the air, tempting and alluring.
All Chu He Ting needed to do was gently bite down, and he would taste the most exquisite delicacy imaginable.
The primal desire within Chu He Ting swelled, but he gritted his teeth and resisted.
Giving in to such temptation would make him no better than the drunkard outside.
Fortunately, Ning Liang An’s emotions gradually settled.
Regaining some composure, he lifted his head and asked, his voice still tinged with tears,
“What about that man…?”
“Don’t worry. I controlled my strength. I’ll have someone handle him later.”
Ning Liang An didn’t reply.
He gently pushed Chu He Ting away, stood up, closed the door, and turned on the light.
