Looking at Nian Jinsui happily munching on fried chicken in front of him, Qin Chengyu could only think,
This is truly baffling…
He didn’t eat a thing at the Imperial Capital Tower, yet here he was, wolfing down junk food.
“Qin Chengyu, eat more!”
Nian Jinsui noticed Qin Chengyu hadn’t touched anything and directly shoved a large drumstick into his hand.
“Look how skinny you are. You should eat more.”
Qin Chengyu, accustomed to a strict health regimen, was used to the meticulously balanced meals prepared by the Qin family’s chefs.
To him, fast food like this was nothing but garbage and shouldn’t even be consumed.
His lean physique wasn’t due to dieting but because, in the Qin family,
he was only served the plainest dishes due to his status.
With no one in the family caring about or paying attention to him, he never had much appetite during meals.
After accompanying Nian Jinsui all day, Qin Chengyu was starting to feel hungry.
Reluctantly, he bit into the drumstick.
The flavor was rich, but it was far too greasy for him, and he couldn’t get used to it.
Seeing that Qin Chengyu had taken just one bite and put the drumstick down, Nian Jinsui sighed dramatically.
“You don’t even like fried chicken? No wonder you’re so thin. Fine, I’ll order you a salad. Eat something light for now; we’ll have a proper feast when we get home tonight.”
Nian Jinsui immediately placed a salad order on his phone.
As he did, he caught a glimpse of a figure outside the nearby glass window.
He looked up and, to his surprise, it was Ning Liang’an.
Their eyes met, and Nian Jinsui suddenly felt awkward, his toes curling involuntarily in embarrassment.
After all, he had just poured soup all over Ning Liang’an earlier.
Before he could overthink it, he instinctively waved at Ning Liang’an.
To his surprise, Ning Liang’an actually came in.
“Uh… do you want to sit down and eat with us?”
Nian Jinsui asked hesitantly.
He wasn’t sure how Ning Liang’an would respond—he had just humiliated him earlier, and now he was inviting him to a meal.
Would Ning Liang’an even accept?
Unexpectedly, Ning Liang’an sat down and replied in a calm tone,
“I just finished my shift. I didn’t expect to run into you here, Young Master Nian. But I already had my staff meal, so I won’t eat. Thank you for your kind offer.”
Seeing Ning Liang’an so composed and unbothered by the earlier humiliation, Nian Jinsui felt a growing sense of guilt.
Would Xi Lü (the system) stop me if I apologized to him now?
Nian Jinsui wondered nervously, fidgeting with his fingers. Tentatively, he decided to test the waters.
“Um… I just wanted to say sorry…”
To his surprise, Ning Liang’an responded sincerely,
“It’s me who should apologize to you, Young Master Nian.”
Nian Jinsui was taken aback.
“What do you have to apologize to me for?”
“Your birthday should have been a happy occasion, but because of me, it ended on a less-than-perfect note. I’m truly sorry for that,”
Ning Liang’an said, his self-reproach clear in his expression.
Looking at Ning Liang’an’s genuine guilt, Nian Jinsui’s heart softened completely.
What a kind Omega…
He remembered that Ning Liang’an shared the same birthday as him, yet here he was, more concerned about ruining someone else’s day.
If I were still an Alpha, I’d definitely steal him away from Chu Heting!
“You have nothing to apologize for,”
Nian Jinsui said kindly.
“It wasn’t your fault at all.”
“As one of the waitstaff at the party, it was my responsibility to complete my duties. Because of my health, I failed in my job and disrupted the event. That was a major mistake on my part. Young Master Nian, you’re entirely within your rights to demand compensation from me,”
Ning Liang’an replied earnestly.
Nian Jinsui was astonished by Ning Liang’an’s honesty.
He wasn’t just blindly taking the blame in a submissive way; he was genuinely acknowledging his mistake.
Nian Jinsui couldn’t help but admire Ning Liang’an even more.
Despite his difficult circumstances, he still had the courage to offer compensation, something most people wouldn’t do.
If it were me back in the day, I’d never willingly admit fault,
Nian Jinsui thought.
If a client asked for compensation, I’d probably just say, “I have no money, take my life instead.”
But Ning Liang’an was like a wildflower, resiliently growing even in the harshest conditions, living earnestly and bravely. No wonder he was the protagonist in this novel.
“Forget about compensation. I accept your apology, and there’s no need to dwell on it,”
Nian Jinsui replied cheerfully.
Ning Liang’an smiled warmly.
“Thank you, Young Master Nian. I can tell you’re a good person.”
Nian Jinsui was flabbergasted.
He had been so harsh toward Ning Liang’an earlier, and yet Ning Liang’an thought he was a good person?
Is this the legendary saintly heart of a protagonist Omega?
Ning Liang’an continued,
“By the way, thank you for using chilled sweet soup instead of hot soup earlier at the Imperial Capital Tower.”
Nian Jinsui froze. He hadn’t expected Ning Liang’an to notice that detail.
Fumbling for words, Nian Jinsui stammered,
“There’s nothing to thank me for… You should’ve been mad at me…”
“I wouldn’t be mad,”
Ning Liang’an said softly, studying Nian Jinsui’s expression. The more he looked, the more he believed that Nian Jinsui wasn’t a bad person.
While Nian Jinsui sometimes behaved arrogantly or unreasonably, Ning Liang’an felt that his actions never carried true malice.
Unlike other wealthy individuals Ning Liang’an had encountered during his time as a server—people like Chu Heting, who were genuine elites but carried an unbridgeable distance between themselves and others, or people like Ye Kang, who flaunted wealth but looked down on the less fortunate—Nian Jinsui was different.
Though he couldn’t quite explain it, Ning Liang’an instinctively trusted him.
However, Ning Liang’an couldn’t ignore one peculiar thought.
Right now, Nian Jinsui seemed calm and composed.
Why, then, had he lost control and acted so irrationally at the Imperial Capital Tower earlier?
The question lingered in both Ning Liang’an’s and Qin Chengyu’s minds.
Earlier that day, Nian Jinsui had reacted as if Ning Liang’an were his sworn enemy.
Yet now, he was casually chatting with him like nothing had happened.
The contrast was too strange.
Then it clicked for Ning Liang’an—Nian Jinsui’s outburst had coincided with Chu Heting’s arrival.
When Chu Heting wasn’t around, like now, Nian Jinsui seemed completely normal.
A hypothesis began to form in Ning Liang’an’s mind.
Maybe… Nian Jinsui really is sick.
