Whenever Chu Heting provoked him, Nian Jinsui would "fall ill."
After all, just a few days ago, Nian Jinsui had jumped off a building for Chu Heting.
This provided strong evidence to support the hypothesis.
Tentatively, Ning Liang’an asked,
“Young Master Nian… have you ever seen a doctor?”
“I have, yeah. It’s just a fracture, nothing serious,”
Nian Jinsui replied, assuming Ning Liang’an was asking about his leg injury.
“Young Master Nian, please don’t get angry at what I’m about to say,”
Ning Liang’an said cautiously, his kind nature prompting him to worry about Nian Jinsui’s mental state.
He mustered his courage and asked,
“Isn’t it true that whenever you see Young Master Chu, or encounter anything related to him, you find it hard to control your emotions and get easily agitated?”
Nian Jinsui’s eyes widened slightly.
“How do you know?”
he blurted out.
Every time Chu Heting appeared, he was forced to follow the script.
The mere thought made Nian Jinsui’s temper flare.
He was supposed to be a dominant Alpha, yet now he had to shamelessly cling to Chu Heting.
Just remembering it was enough to make him angry!
This genuine reaction didn’t escape Ning Liang’an’s notice, further solidifying his suspicion:
Nian Jinsui really might be ill.
But Nian Jinsui quickly realized something.
Ning Liang’an didn’t know the truth, so why would he ask such a question?
From Ning Liang’an’s eyes, Nian Jinsui caught a strange flicker of sympathy.
“Young Master Nian, perhaps you should see a doctor… I mean a psychologist,”
Ning Liang’an suggested sincerely.
“You think I’m sick…”
Nian Jinsui found the idea absurd but suddenly stopped mid-sentence.
Wait, isn’t this the perfect excuse?
Turning his head, Nian Jinsui met Qin Chengyu’s scrutinizing gaze.
Clearly, the same thought had crossed Qin Chengyu’s mind.
What Ning Liang’an suspected, Qin Chengyu had also considered.
However, he was more cautious and didn’t jump to conclusions.
But Nian Jinsui’s erratic and illogical behavior—especially his dramatic "Ke Yun-style" meltdown earlier—definitely didn’t align with that of a mentally sound person.
Clinging obsessively to Chu Heting, bullying Ning Liang’an, and arbitrarily bossing around Qin Chengyu—it could all be chalked up to an illness!
The more Nian Jinsui thought about it, the more excited he became.
If people believed he was ill, they’d be more likely to pity him or even go easy on him. Surely no one would exact harsh revenge on a “sick” person, right?
Overwhelmed by joy, Nian Jinsui felt as though he had discovered a lifeline amidst a precarious situation.
“Xi Lü! There’s hope for my ending after all!”
Nian Jinsui eagerly shared the “good news” with the system.
After a moment of silence, Xi Lü replied:
[Host, are you certain this won’t end with you being committed to a mental hospital?]
Nian Jinsui: …
Both Ning Liang’an and Qin Chengyu watched as Nian Jinsui’s expression shifted from astonishment to elation, only to collapse into dejection, his gaze becoming vacant.
If he isn’t sick, no one would believe it…
Snapping out of it, Nian Jinsui quickly tried to cover up.
“Of course not! What a joke! How could I possibly be sick? Hahaha…”
Ning Liang’an: …
It’s true—sick people rarely admit they’re sick.
Sensing Nian Jinsui’s resistance, Ning Liang’an decided not to press further. Checking the time, he said,
“Young Master Nian, I have to head to work. I’ll take my leave now.”
“Wait,”
Nian Jinsui said, as a thought occurred to him.
“Ning Liang’an, are you struggling financially? I could—”
Before he could finish offering to help, the system chimed in with a reminder:
[Host, monetary transactions with Ning Liang’an are not allowed.]
“But he’s the real Young Master of the Nian family! The money I’m spending is technically his anyway. Why can’t I give it to him?”
[If Ning Liang’an no longer has financial struggles, subsequent plotlines are likely to change.]
Realizing the implications, Nian Jinsui sighed.
“Fine, I get it.”
Understanding the unsaid offer, Ning Liang’an smiled and said,
“Thank you for your concern, Young Master Nian. I earn my own money and spend it myself. My financial situation is perfectly fine.”
Inwardly, Nian Jinsui applauded him.
What a true protagonist—so independent and principled.
“See you next time, then,” he said.
As Ning Liang’an left, Nian Jinsui turned to Qin Chengyu, only to meet his calm and unreadable gaze.
Annoyed, Nian Jinsui snapped,
“Eat your salad! Why are you staring at me? Do you also think I’m sick?”
Qin Chengyu averted his gaze.
Not only do I think you’re sick, I think you’re seriously ill.
“You really like Chu Heting that much?”
Qin Chengyu asked, his tone filled with a rare hint of confusion.
Unlike Nian Jinsui, Qin Chengyu’s life had always been like still water—quiet, uneventful, and indifferent.
He had never cared enough about anything, much less anyone.
He had never witnessed feelings as intense and blatant as Nian Jinsui’s for Chu Heting—feelings so strong they led him to jump off a building and throw tantrums.
To Qin Chengyu, it was pure foolishness.
Instinctively, Nian Jinsui wanted to deny it. But just as he opened his mouth, Xi Lü interrupted with a reminder:
[Host, please note: being madly in love with Chu Heting is a key characteristic of Nian Jinsui’s role. Until the novel’s ending, you cannot deny your feelings for him.]
Speechless, Nian Jinsui recalled the novel’s storyline.
His character, though a brainless and villainous antagonist, undeniably had genuine, overwhelming love for Chu Heting.
After a moment, he nodded slowly.
“Qin Chengyu, if you liked someone, what would you do?”
Nian Jinsui asked, genuinely curious.
“Like…”
Qin Chengyu murmured the unfamiliar word, as though it were something alien to him. He had never felt attachment or affection for anything or anyone—not even for an object.
After some thought, he answered,
“I suppose I’d do whatever it takes to snatch them away and hide them.”
The stillest waters often concealed the fiercest waves. The most indifferent people, once consumed by obsession, would stop at nothing—even if it meant tearing the world apart.
Hearing Qin Chengyu’s answer, Nian Jinsui tilted his head slightly.
“Is that so?” he mused.
