Ch 2 : The Ge'er's Escape

With a mere lift of his hand, a document appeared in his grasp.  “Is this what you mean, Village Chief?” He handed the document over. The Village Chief reached out, took it, opened it, and examined it carefully.  “Exactly this.” After reviewing it, he returned the document to the man and turned to address the villagers, clarifying the man's identity.  “Ling Cang, from the capital. His family has been in trade for generations.” The Clan Leader nodded upon hearing this.  “If that's the case, then the young man may reside temporarily in Yunxi Village.” “Thank you very much then,”  Divine Emperor Ling Cang said with a smile, cupping his hands in thanks. His smile was like a warm spring breeze, dazzling everyone present. “Might there be any uninhabited houses in the village? I would like to purchase one,”  Ling Cang asked with a smile. Before entering the mortal realm, he had observed this area; the scenery was excellent and it seemed a good place for living and...

 A Farewell Kiss

Qin Zhiyan stepped closer, gazing at Tang Keyi who was looking up at him slightly.

He reached out and pulled him near.

Warm lips pressed once again against Tang Keyi’s smooth forehead, but unlike last time,

Tang Keyi could now feel Qin Zhiyan’s warm embrace and the love that connected their hearts.

Tang Keyi clearly heard the beating of his own heart, a

ccompanied by Qin Zhiyan’s tender affectionate words:

"Goodnight, my Tangtang."

His face flushed red, Tang Keyi stood frozen for a moment before finally opening the door.

Before stepping inside, he turned back to look at Qin Zhiyan.

"Goodnight. See you tomorrow."

"Go on in."

Qin Zhiyan watched as Tang Keyi entered, but suddenly sensed a gaze from afar.

He sharply turned his head and spotted the Tang family matriarch standing on the balcony.

Even from a distance, Qin Zhiyan could see the radiant smile on her face.

He gave a simple nod in greeting before getting into his car and driving away.

The Tang matriarch chuckled to herself, delighted, and immediately called Old Liu.

"Old Liu, it’s a good thing you told me a car had been parked outside for so long without moving. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have gotten to see such a sweet moment between Keyi and Qin Zhiyan. Let me know if you spot anything else interesting!"

After hanging up, she couldn’t resist flipping through the photos she’d secretly taken a few more times, barely suppressing the urge to share them in the family group chat.

"After all, this is my dear grandson’s first relationship. He’s shy—I’d better pretend I don’t know for now."

Covering her mouth, she decided to enjoy this little secret all by herself.

"Han Qiuqiu! I have huge news to tell you!"

Tang Keyi called his best friend the moment he got back to his room.

"You and Qin Zhiyan are together?"

Han Qiuqiu guessed instantly.

"Ah! How did you know before I even said anything?"

"Given how things have been progressing between you two lately, wasn’t it obvious? Congrats, you’ve finally shed your lifelong single status!"

"Should I throw a ‘no longer single’ party? Or make an official announcement on social media? Honestly, even though I lied about liking him before, everyone in the capital just treated it as a joke. Now that we’re actually together, I kinda want to rub it in their faces—let them see just how charming I am!"

"Keyi, let me give you some advice. Don’t act too overjoyed. After all, everyone in the capital—including Qin Zhiyan—thinks you’ve liked him for ages. You don’t want him thinking he’s got you completely wrapped around his finger."

"But he does have me wrapped around his finger!"

Tang Keyi said excitedly.

"You have no idea how gentle Qin Zhiyan is with me! Nothing like the terrifying guy I first met. He must adore me!"

Han Qiuqiu rolled his eyes on the other end of the line.

"I’d advise you not to fall too hard. Even if you’re head over heels for him, don’t let it show too much on your face."

"I know, I know. I’m totally calm on the surface—I’ve got the acting skills for that,"

Tang Keyi declared confidently.

"Qin Zhiyan might’ve been cold before, but now that he’s ‘awakened,’ he could turn out to be as much of a playboy as Qin Yulin. They are from the same family, after all—might share the same tendencies."

Though Tang Keyi disagreed internally, he humored his friend.

"If you really want to make it official, just post a simple photo on social media. Word will spread fast enough."

"Okay! That’s the plan!"

Tang Keyi hung up, buzzing with excitement,

and scrolled through his photo gallery—only to find the group photo from New Year’s Eve.

But he’d already posted that one.

Resigned,

he shelved the idea for now,

making a mental note to take a new picture with Qin Zhiyan soon.

The next morning, Tang Keyi—who usually lazed in bed—got up bright and early,

full of energy as he headed downstairs to leave for work.

The Tang matriarch was practicing tai chi in the courtyard.

Noticing Tang Keyi’s unusually early rise,

she saw right through him but played dumb.

"Keyi, why are you up so early today?"

"Just woke up and didn’t feel like staying in bed,"

Tang Keyi answered vaguely.

"Then you don’t need to grab breakfast on the go—you can eat at home today."

Tang Keyi’s eyes darted away.

"No, I’m not really hungry yet. I’ll just pack something to take with me."

"Oh..."

The old lady smiled knowingly.

"Fair enough."

When Qin Zhiyan arrived at the office,

he found Tang Keyi already there, breakfast warmed and waiting.

"You’re early today."

"Just woke up earlier, that’s all."

The moment Tang Keyi saw Qin Zhiyan,

his eyes lit up.

[Wanted to see you sooner, that’s why.]

Qin Zhiyan chuckled softly.

This candy was so clingy.

Noticing the two servings of breakfast on the table, he asked,

"Haven’t eaten yet?"

"Was in a bit of a rush. Didn’t have time."

Tang Keyi didn’t even realize his two statements contradicted each other.

Qin Zhiyan, fully aware of the truth, sat beside him.

"Then let’s eat together."

As they ate, they chatted casually.

Qin Zhiyan decided to indulge him.

"How about having breakfast with me every day from now on?"

"Okay."

Tang Keyi restrained his delight, answering coolly.

[Sigh, Qin Zhiyan is so clingy.]

[He must like me way more!]

Qin Zhiyan, now inexplicably labeled as "clingy": "..."

After breakfast, they returned to their respective tasks—

only for Ning Muxi to show up again.

Given their unpleasant parting the day before,

Tang Keyi was cold and reluctant to engage. Surprisingly, Ning Muxi spoke first.

"Assistant Tang, I’m here to resign today."

Tang Keyi was taken aback.

"Why the sudden decision?"

"To be honest, a big reason I stayed was because of President Qin. Now that I know there’s no chance, there’s no point lingering in a place that only brings me heartache."

Her tone was sincere this time.

Tang Keyi reflected inwardly—he really didn’t want to keep running into her either.

He nodded.

"Then I wish you all the best."

"Thank you. I’ve actually had offers from overseas companies before, so I’ll likely be leaving the country."

Ning Muxi said.

"Before I go, I’d like to apologize to you."

"Apologize? To me?"

"Yes. I spent all night thinking it over and finally understood—it wasn’t you being delusional, it was me. I kept believing that if I stayed by President Qin’s side long enough, he’d eventually see my worth. But the truth is, if he didn’t like me before, he never will."

Her smile was bittersweet, but resolved.

Tang Keyi wasn’t one to hold grudges.

"Someone as outstanding as you will definitely find the right person."

"Thank you. I wish you and President Qin all the happiness."

Ning Muxi’s grin was one of genuine release.

"Could you let President Qin know I’d like to see him?"

"Sure."

Tang Keyi called Qin Zhiyan’s office and, after getting permission,

watched as Ning Muxi entered.

He couldn’t help but sigh.

The person who’d truly loved Qin Zhiyan for years never got him,

while he—the one who’d lied about loving him—ended up by his side.

Upon hearing Ning Muxi’s intention to resign,

Qin Zhiyan showed no desire to retain her.

"Just complete the formalities with HR."

Given how deeply she’d cared for him, his indifference stung.

"Aren’t you going to ask why?"

Qin Zhiyan had some guesses but didn’t want to discuss personal matters.

"You must have your reasons. I respect your decision. Your competence is undeniable—you’ll excel wherever you go."

"President Qin, actually..."

Ning Muxi had planned to confess her feelings one last time,

but just then,

Qin Zhiyan’s phone lit up with a notification on the desk.

Her eyes flicked to it instinctively—and caught a glimpse of his lock screen:

a photo of Tang Keyi, clearly taken without his knowledge.
