"Hmph! You don’t know? You’re clearly playing dumb! Just looking at you, I can tell—it’s 99% a done deal! You’re really something, actually managing to win over Qin Zhiyan!"
Tang Keyi also felt an overwhelming sense of pride and couldn’t help but grin. Finally, he corrected with a barely suppressed smile, "Not quite won over yet."
"Then what was up with you yesterday? Could it still be related to that director?" Han Qiuqiu hit the nail on the head.
"You were right before. She’s really something—just a few words completely misled me. Looking back now, I feel like such an idiot for believing her."
Tang Keyi wished he could travel back in time and slap some sense into his past self.
Qin Zhiyan was famously cold-blooded and ruthless. If it had been anyone else having an episode that night, Tang Keyi refused to believe Qin Zhiyan would’ve lifted a finger!
Qin Zhiyan liked him!
Tang Keyi thought this with absolute conviction.
"As long as you’ve figured it out. Matters of the heart are like drinking water—only you know if it’s warm or cold. Your own feelings are the only ones that truly matter. Don’t listen to anyone else’s nonsense." Han Qiuqiu shared his wisdom as someone who’d been through it.
Tang Keyi nodded emphatically in agreement.
After finishing his soak, Tang Keyi checked his phone and found a message from Qin Zhiyan.
Qin Zhiyan: Had something to attend to, so I left first. Your clothes have been cleaned and left at the front desk. Remember to pick them up.
Clothes? What clothes?
Oh! He had left Qin Zhiyan’s room without his jacket.
Tang Keyi immediately went to the front desk to retrieve his clothes—only to run into Zhou Mai, who was checking out.
"Hey, Zhou Mai, are you leaving?" Tang Keyi greeted him warmly.
Zhou Mai’s eyes flickered with slight awkwardness at the memory of last night, but he responded politely, "Yeah, I was just about to message you."
"I’m heading out too after grabbing my clothes." Tang Keyi collected his jacket from the staff.
Zhou Mai recognized it instantly as the one Tang Keyi had worn the night before.
Tang Keyi smiled. "Next time, let’s hang out again. Drinking or skiing—either works."
Zhou Mai’s gaze shifted from the jacket to Tang Keyi’s face. "Sure… By the way, I’ll say one more thing. About that President Qin… if there isn’t some irreconcilable conflict between you, maybe give him another chance."
"Huh?" Tang Keyi was baffled by the sudden advice.
"Last night, when you were drunk and about to throw up, he pulled you into his arms so you wouldn’t fall. You vomited all over him, and he didn’t even flinch. I think… he must care about you a lot."
Tang Keyi had no memory of this, but hearing it now made his heart bubble with sweetness. "Thanks for telling me that."
"Don’t mention it. I’ll head out first. See you."
As Zhou Mai left, Tang Keyi hugged the jacket tighter.
Why did Qin Zhiyan leave so early? Was it something urgent? I kinda want to see him soon…
The Qin Residence.
"President Qin, these are all the surviving records we could find regarding Young Master Tang’s kidnapping case." Cong Qiao placed a file on the desk. "The Tang family sealed all information back then, so this is all that remains."
Qin Zhiyan reached for the file, his gaze inadvertently catching on the bracelet around his wrist. He paused briefly, as if steeling himself, then slowly pulled out the documents.
The top item was a photograph—a small boy with hollow, vacant eyes, emaciated, his clothes filthy, his exposed arms and legs covered in bruises.
Qin Zhiyan recognized him instantly as Tang Keyi, but he refused to believe it.
The lively, mischievous Tang Keyi he knew now—how could he have ever looked like this?
"This is… Tang Keyi?" Qin Zhiyan murmured, his fingers brushing the boy’s face in the photo before recoiling as if burned.
Cong Qiao bowed his head, tactfully avoiding Qin Zhiyan’s uncharacteristic lapse. "President Qin, this is indeed Young Master Tang."
Qin Zhiyan shut his eyes briefly, steadying himself before speaking in a low voice. "Wait outside."
"Yes, President Qin."
Cong Qiao kept his head respectfully lowered as he exited the room.
Qin Zhiyan exhaled deeply, setting the photo aside before examining the other materials.
It turned out that when Tang Keyi was eight, during a school trip, he’d been kidnapped. The Tang family, prioritizing his safety, had paid the ransom without involving the police. But after receiving the money, the kidnappers still didn’t release him, forcing the Tangs to finally report it.
Tang Keyi had been held for two weeks before being rescued. The incident had been major news at the time, later suppressed by the Tang family.
The photo from earlier was a paparazzi shot of Tang Keyi after his rescue.
Qin Zhiyan’s gaze lingered on the final line of the report, lost in thought.
The kidnappers’ whereabouts remain unknown, with no leads to this day.
Even the Tang family couldn’t find them?
He picked up his phone and called Cong Qiao. "Keep investigating Tang Keyi’s kidnapping case, especially any information on the kidnappers."
"President Qin, if even the Tang family couldn’t find them back then, after so many years, it might be—"
"Just do your best. Also…" Qin Zhiyan hesitated. "Schedule an appointment with a psychologist for me tomorrow morning."
After hanging up, Qin Zhiyan couldn’t resist picking up the photo again, then pulled up a recent selfie with Tang Keyi on his phone.
"Were you… really scared back then?" Qin Zhiyan traced Tang Keyi’s smiling face in the photo. "Is that why you’re still so afraid of the dark now?"
He recalled Qin Yulin’s words—that loving someone meant caring about their feelings, fearing they’d get hurt…
"It really is love… and the very deep kind," Qin Zhiyan murmured to himself.
"Tang Keyi, since fate brought you to me, I’ll take good care of you, protect you… and love you properly."
Eager to see Qin Zhiyan, Tang Keyi arrived at the office early—only to wait in vain. Eventually, he received a message saying Qin Zhiyan wouldn’t be in that morning.
"What a letdown." Tang Keyi’s mood plummeted. "And here I prepared such a lavish breakfast."
Just then, Ning Muxi arrived with documents for Qin Zhiyan. Upon hearing he wasn’t in, she didn’t leave immediately. Instead, she studied Tang Keyi with curiosity.
Anyone could see Tang Keyi was in high spirits—radiant, practically glowing with joy.
"Assistant Tang, some happy news at home?" Ning Muxi asked.
"No happy news. Just in a good mood, that’s all."
At this point, Tang Keyi couldn’t even be bothered to feign politeness toward her.
