SDS: Chapter 40

"Tang Keyi Finally Likes Him Back"

Han Qiuqiu and Tang Keyi ignored Qin Yulin and Qin Zhiyan completely,

focusing on adjusting their gloves and goggles before

strapping on their skis with practiced ease.

Tang Keyi glided past Qin Zhiyan with effortless grace,

his movements fluid and precise.

[Hmph.]

Qin Zhiyan watched Tang Keyi’s retreating figure,

silently acknowledging his skill—but what had he done to offend him?

What was that hmph about?

Tang Keyi didn’t exchange a single word with Qin Zhiyan the entire time,

and even Qin Yulin noticed something was off.

"Did you two have a fight?"

Qin Zhiyan had long lost interest in skiing.

Instead of moving, he stood at the top of the slope,

his gaze locked onto Tang Keyi.

"He seems angry, but I don’t know why."

Qin Yulin ventured a guess.

"I’d bet it’s because of Ning Muxi."

"Ning Muxi? Did she bully Tang Keyi or something?"

Qin Zhiyan frowned.

"Bully? Probably not. But since she came back, everyone’s been gossiping about you two. And Tang Keyi likes you so much—hearing all that must’ve upset him."

"What gossip? About me and Ning Muxi?"

Qin Zhiyan turned his head, baffled.

"You two were classmates, and you’re both single. People think you’d make a good match."

Qin Zhiyan’s expression darkened.

"Hah. Clearly, they don’t have enough work if they’ve got time to spread baseless rumors."

"Ning Muxi’s been single for years. Even I can tell she’s into you—don’t tell me you didn’t notice?"

"No,"

Qin Zhiyan answered flatly.

"I don’t make a habit of keeping track of my subordinates’ love lives."

"Fine, I’ve got my own problems. Look at Qiuqiu—he’s so good at skiing, he never even falls. I just want an excuse to hold him."

Qin Yulin’s gaze followed Han Qiuqiu like a starving wolf eyeing prey.

The analogy wasn’t far off—Qin Yulin had been celibate for a while,

and the sight of Han Qiuqiu was driving him wild.

Between Qin Yulin’s obvious lust and

Tang Keyi happily chatting with some stranger in the distance,

Qin Zhiyan’s mood soured further.

"Your technique is amazing. You’re really good at snowboarding—do you work in this field?"

The man removed his goggles,

revealing a pair of striking expressive eyes as he struck up a conversation.

"No, just a hobby. Thanks for the compliment."

A few good runs had lifted Tang Keyi’s spirits considerably.

"I’m Zhou Mai, a ski instructor. The owner of this resort is a friend of mine—he invited me to check it out during the soft opening."

"Nice to meet you. I’m Tang Keyi."

"Tired yet? How about grabbing a hot drink and taking a break?"

"Sure."

Qin Zhiyan watched as Tang Keyi passed by him again—

and this time, he couldn’t resist reaching out to grab his wrist.

Tang Keyi tried to pull free but couldn’t.

He turned to glare at Qin Zhiyan.

Zhou Mai, noticing Tang Keyi wasn’t following, hurried back.

"Hey, what’s your problem? Let him go!"

Qin Yulin quickly stepped in to mediate.

"They know each other."

Tang Keyi scowled at Qin Zhiyan.

"President Qin, is there something you need?"

Qin Zhiyan met Tang Keyi’s gaze head-on,

seeing the anger simmering in his eyes.

So he really is mad.

This was the first time Qin Zhiyan had seen Tang Keyi like this.

But he’d been fine yesterday.

They hadn’t seen each other since yesterday afternoon—

had something happened then?

Qin Zhiyan still couldn’t hear Tang Keyi’s inner thoughts.

"If there’s nothing, I’m going for a drink with my friend."

[Go drink your damn coffee by yourself.]

Finally, Qin Zhiyan caught a fragment of Tang Keyi’s thoughts.

Coffee?

What coffee?

What does coffee have to do with anything?

"Sir, he asked you to let go. Have some self-respect."

Zhou Mai’s expression hardened.

Qin Yulin nudged Qin Zhiyan’s arm in warning.

Slowly, Qin Zhiyan released his grip, watching as Tang Keyi walked away.

Then he remembered—

the coffee Ning Muxi had brought him yesterday afternoon.

So it really is about her?

Is Tang Keyi…

jealous?

After lying for so long,

has he finally fallen for me?

Zhou Mai studied Tang Keyi with concern.

"Is there anything I can do to help? Who was that?"

Afraid Zhou Mai might misunderstand, Tang Keyi quickly explained,

"Don’t overthink it. He’s a friend. We’ve just had a disagreement recently—it’s nothing."

"I see. Well, if you need anything, just say the word."

"Thanks."

The two chatted over drinks, enjoying a pleasant conversation—

until Han Qiuqiu found them.

"Tang Keyi, I was wondering where you’d gone. Hiding here, huh?"

Han Qiuqiu glanced at Zhou Mai.

"And this is?"

"Zhou Mai. We just met."

"Nice to meet you. I’m Han Qiuqiu."

"Likewise."

Zhou Mai responded politely.

Han Qiuqiu turned to Tang Keyi.

"My cousin just showed up with a bunch of friends. They’re planning a get-together tonight."

"Sure."

Han Qiuqiu grinned at Zhou Mai.

"Why don’t you join us?"

"Wouldn’t I be intruding?"

"We’re all young and fun—no such thing as intruding. You two exchanged contacts, right? Keyi can message you the details."

"Sounds good."

Zhou Mai agreed readily.

The emotions from yesterday still weighed on Tang Keyi,

driving him to drink more than usual.

Normally, he’d pace himself, but tonight,

he was downing glass after glass without restraint.

Han Qiuqiu knew something was bothering him—

Tang Keyi had refused to talk about it earlier.

As his best friend, the only thing he could do now was drink with him.
