Fireworks and firecrackers were going off in Tang Keyi's heart—
he was so happy it might as well have been New Year's already.
[What color should I paint it? Would red be too flashy?]
[Who cares about flashy? I want it flashy! So flashy the whole city can see it!]
[Ahhh! I’m gonna be too excited to sleep tonight!]
Qin Zhiyan lowered his eyelids but couldn’t suppress the upward curl of his lips.
Hopeless.
......
The final auction item was a piece of calligraphy from Madam Tang’s personal collection.
Naturally, the Tang family wouldn’t let their matriarch part with her treasures for real.
One after another, they drove up the bids amongst themselves while outsiders watched the show.
In the end, Tang Kexing "won" it at a sky-high price.
The auction concluded in perfect harmony.
New Year’s Eve
Outside Capital Tower, Han Qiuqiu and Tang Keyi ran into Li Mingxing—again.
Li Mingxing blinked in surprise.
"You two got a reservation? Since when?"
"Why else would we be here?"
Han Qiuqiu flaunted his victory, dragging Tang Keyi into the elevator.
Li Mingxing followed, his eyebrows shooting up
when Tang Keyi pressed the button for the 118th floor.
"Isn’t that floor reserved for the Qins?"
"Exactly," Han Qiuqiu gloated. "
Normally it is, but tonight it’s ours. Didn’t mention it earlier ’cause we didn’t want you sulking. Sorry to ruin your New Year’s mood~"
Li Mingxing’s expression stiffened.
"Why would I care about a stupid suite?"
"Glad to hear it! Ours isn’t even that special. Just higher up with a better view, no big deal."
As Li Mingxing opened his mouth to retort, Han Qiuqiu cut in:
"Your floor’s here. Bye!"
Li Mingxing seethed, shooting them a glare—
until Tang Keyi suddenly called out:
"Hey!"
"What?!" Li Mingxing snapped.
"Happy New Year!" Tang Keyi grinned.
Li Mingxing froze, but the doors slid shut before he could respond.
Alone, he murmured belatedly to the closed elevator:
"Happy New Year… Tang Keyi."
Han Qiuqiu’s jaw dropped upon entering the suite.
Qin Zhiyan, Qin Yilin, and other Qin scions were already there.
"What the hell?" He whirled on Tang Keyi.
Tang Keyi had only mentioned securing the suite—not crashing the Qins’ party.
"Surprise?" Tang Keyi shrugged.
"We can leave if you want."
"Leave after midnight—and the WE's Moment post!"
Han Qiuqiu swiftly adjusted,
chin high as he breezed past Qin Yilin to greet the others.
[Spending New Year’s with Qin Zhiyan? So damn weird.]
Qin Zhiyan’s gaze flicked to Tang Keyi’s stiff posture.
Why is "weird" the default reaction?
When will he ever relax around me?
Then again, tension had its perks—
at least Tang Keyi wouldn’t be draping himself over anyone tonight.
The atmosphere was so stifling even the air seemed hesitant to circulate.
Normally, Tang Keyi and Han Qiuqiu’s parties raged till dawn.
Tonight? Everyone was counting seconds to midnight.
Qin Yilin, sensing the frost, suggested:
"Let’s play Jenga."
Qin Zhiyan approved—anything to loosen Tang Keyi up.
The group circled up.
Qin Yilin drew the first block:
"‘Is there someone you like here?’"
He winked blatantly at Han Qiuqiu.
"Obviously."
Han Qiuqiu scoffed: "Not me, so who cares?"
The game continued until one player drew:
"Seduce the 3rd person to your right for one minute."
"Third to the right…"
All heads turned.
Qin Zhiyan?!
A single glacial look from him had the player scrambling:
"I’ll drink instead!"
Next was Han Qiuqiu:
"Seduce the 5th person to your right."
He glanced over—a minor Qin cousin.
Perfect.
Anyone but Qin Zhiyan or Qin Yilin.
"Sit tight,"
Han Qiuqiu ordered,
ignoring the man’s panicked glance at Qin Yilin’s murderous glare.
For sixty agonizing seconds,
the Qin cousin endured whispered breaths and trailing fingertips, stiff as a board.
Qin Yilin watched, grip whitening around his glass.
Regret.
So much regret.
When Han Qiuqiu finally released his victim,
Qin Yilin downed his drink in one go.
Han Qiuqiu smirked inwardly.
Then came Tang Keyi’s turn:
"Is there someone you like here?’"
He nearly blurted no until Han Qiuqiu elbowed him.
"…Yes?"
The crowd erupted, eyes darting between him and Qin Zhiyan.
[Stop staring! It’s a lie anyway!]
Qin Zhiyan’s lips thinned.
Liar.
Finally, Qin Zhiyan drew his block:
"‘Pick someone to maintain eye contact for one minute.’"
He tossed the block aside.
"Tang Keyi."
"What?!"
Tang Keyi turned—and plunged into the abyss of Qin Zhiyan’s obsidian gaze.
"Starting now."
For the first time, Tang Keyi truly looked at Qin Zhiyan’s eyes.
How to describe them?
Dark enough to swallow galaxies, yet sharp enough to flay souls.
The eyes of an emperor who saw all and cared for none.
Yet in their depths—
A glimmer.
A flicker of moonlight on jade.
[No way Qin Zhiyan’s looking at me softly…]
"Thirty seconds!"
Han Qiuqiu announced.
[Wait—didn’t some study say fifteen seconds of eye contact makes people fall in love? Does that apply to guys too?!]
Qin Zhiyan’s lips quirked.
That fleeting smile sent Tang Keyi’s heart into chaos.
