MSRBMH Ch 24

Su Yu resigned himself and raised his hand to knock on the door once again.

There was a faint sound from inside, and soon, the door swung open.

A light, fresh scent of shower gel wafted out—the same lily-of-the-valley fragrance as the one in his own room.

Ji Yanli’s expression was cold and distant, his eyelids slightly drooping, but the moment their eyes met, his stern face faltered for a second before curling into a smirk.

"Changed your mind? Here to sleep in my room?"

"Cut the crap. Get inside."

Su Yu pressed a hand against Ji Yanli’s abdomen and pushed him back into the room, slipping in after him.

Before closing the door, he glanced left and right—Su Yan hadn’t arrived yet.

As he shut the door, he noticed the handle felt loose. There was no crisp click of the lock engaging.

He twisted the knob again. Sure enough, it was broken.

Now he understood why Su Yan had managed to sneak in. With a lock this flimsy, even someone with weak muscles could open it easily. No wonder Su Yan had gotten in…

Ji Yanli stood behind him, arms crossed, watching the figure in the wine-red robe fiddling with the door. "What’s wrong?"

Su Yu turned around. "Come on, let’s go to my room."

If they stayed here, even if Su Yan didn’t succeed in his scheme, being caught on camera with Ji Yanli would ruin his pristine reputation.

"Is that an invitation?" Ji Yanli’s gaze lingered on the exposed pale skin at Su Yu’s neck, where the robe had slipped slightly.

"Stop yapping and hurry up!"

Su Yu was impatient. He swung the door open and gestured for Ji Yanli to follow.

Despite his sharp tongue, Ji Yanli obeyed without protest.

Once they were both inside, Su Yu quickly locked the door and finally let out a sigh of relief.

Crisis averted. Su Yan wouldn’t be able to trap him and force him out of the Su family now.

"So, what’s going on?"

As much as Ji Yanli would’ve loved for Su Yu to have a change of heart and share a bed with him, he wasn’t completely oblivious. Su Yu had clearly noticed something.

Su Yu sighed and walked toward the bed. "At least you’re not completely brainless. You should thank me—your door lock was broken."

The Xie family was a prestigious household, and this was Xie Lao’s residence. The staff should’ve been maintaining it properly.

Ji Yanli followed him to the bed, his fingers brushing against the smooth fabric of Su Yu’s robe. "Wife, how did you know?"

Smack.

Su Yu slapped his shameless hand away and swiftly sat on the bed. "None of your business. Just know that I saved your ass tonight. Do you even realize what kind of position you’re in?"

If people knew Ji Yanli was staying in that room, there’d be enough visitors to start a mahjong tournament by tonight.

Ji Yanli sensed his irritation and sat beside him, resting his chin on Su Yu’s shoulder with a low murmur. "Don’t be mad, wife. I didn’t know the lock was broken."

"Ugh, you’re disgusting! Get off me!"

Su Yu shuddered, jerking his shoulder away. The loose collar of his robe slipped, exposing half his shoulder.

Feeling Ji Yanli’s gaze, he yanked the fabric back up. "What are you staring at? I’ll gouge your eyes out."

He pressed his back against the headboard. The dim, golden light made it hard to see Ji Yanli’s expression—only the vague outline of his figure.

Their breathing synchronized, and an inexplicable tension unfurled between them, thick and suffocating.

Su Yu couldn’t take it anymore. "Alright, we’re staying here tonight. You take the sofa."

Ji Yanli glanced at the bed. "It’s big enough. I won’t crowd you."

"I’m not asking. I’m telling you."

"I sleep better alone. I can’t sleep with you."

"Are you still angry, wife?" Ji Yanli’s voice was soft, almost dejected.

"You used to love it when I held you to sleep."

[Go on, tell us more about the past.]
[LMAO, is this from one of President Ji’s dreams?]
[Cut him some slack. Before he lost his memory, he never got any advantages. Now that he’s forgotten, can’t he at least enjoy some perks?]

Su Yu ignored the barrage of comments pleading on Ji Yanli’s behalf.

"You remember wrong. I’ve always slept alone."

Ji Yanli shifted closer, burying his face against Su Yu’s chest. His voice was muffled.

"I can’t sleep without you."

The warmth of his breath seeped through the fabric, tickling Su Yu’s skin.

"Get up."

He tried to push him away, but Ji Yanli didn’t budge.

Su Yu’s voice turned threatening. "Move, or I’ll make you."

Instead of backing off, Ji Yanli nuzzled deeper. "Then hit me."

The faint eagerness in his tone made Su Yu’s eye twitch.

Right. Ji Yanli was a masochist.

After struggling fruitlessly for a while, Su Yu gave up. They stayed like that for nearly five minutes—bodies pressed close, scents mingling, the air thick with the fragrance of orchids.

For those five minutes, Su Yu’s heartbeat pounded so loudly in his ears he thought it might burst.

Stupid heart, stop beating so hard!

"Su Yu…"

After what felt like an eternity, Ji Yanli spoke again—this time using his full name instead of "wife."

"Hm?" Su Yu replied flatly.

Ji Yanli’s voice was low. "You know something, don’t you…?"

The fact that Su Yu had known about the broken lock struck him as odd.

"Yeah. So you’d better listen to me."

"Okay."

Ji Yanli didn’t argue, agreeing obediently.

Su Yu scoffed and brushed a stray lock of hair from Ji Yanli’s forehead. "You’re not even going to ask? Aren’t you afraid I’ll screw you over? We’re supposed to be mortal enemies."

He had emphasized their rivalry countless times, but Ji Yanli never seemed to care. The man simply shook his head, rubbing his forehead against Su Yu’s chest.

"You’re my wife. I’m not afraid of you. I just… feel bad for you."

Though it sounded like another one of his usual shameless lines, Su Yu’s heart stuttered for a second.

It had been a long time since he’d heard those words. The last time was back in the orphanage, when he was a child.

Song Yanchu used to bring him food, and when Su Yu asked why, he’d said, "No reason. I just feel bad for you."

That was the first time.

And now, Ji Yanli was the second.

A strange sensation flickered through Su Yu’s mind. He pushed at Ji Yanli again, frowning. "Alright, time to sleep. You’ve got a meeting tomorrow."

After days of working as his assistant, Su Yu had gotten better at remembering Ji Yanli’s schedule. Mia had drilled into him the importance of keeping track of daily appointments.

Ji Yanli didn’t move, clearly intending to cling to him all night.

Su Yu gritted his teeth, ready to kick him off—

But before he could, a knock sounded at the door.

"Little brother, are you in there?"
