Dangerous.
That was the first word that flashed through Su Yu’s mind.
"We sleep separately. We can’t share a room."
His words came out rapid-fire as he turned to leave.
"Wife… are you still angry with me?"
Ji Yanli’s grip on his wrist tightened. Even through the fabric of his shirt, Su Yu could feel the heat of the man’s palm searing into his skin.
His voice was low, tinged with a hint of grievance, as if he couldn’t comprehend why Su Yu was treating him this way. He stubbornly refused to let go.
Su Yu turned back and met a pair of intense eyes—eyes that held only his reflection, along with the flustered expression currently on his face.
"I’m not—"
He opened his mouth to explain but stopped himself.
Suddenly, he remembered how Ji Yanli had shielded him earlier in front of Su Zhaofeng and Su Yan.
Having Ji Yanli stand by his side, regardless of the situation, did feel… nice.
Maybe his amnesia wasn’t so bad after all.
"Wife, I didn’t exchange a single word with Song Yanchu today. I mean it—I only like you."
Ji Yanli’s low murmur snapped Su Yu out of his thoughts.
He recoiled as if electrocuted, yanking his hand free. Ji Yanli’s arm dropped midair, the sandalwood beads around his wrist clacking softly.
Su Yu stared at the bracelet, suddenly recalling Song Yanchu’s earlier question.
"Ji Yanli, why haven’t you been fiddling with that damn bracelet lately?"
From what he remembered, ever since Ji Yanli started wearing it, he’d constantly been turning the beads—sometimes agitated, sometimes calm, but always touching them.
Ji Yanli followed his gaze to his wrist, where the polished wood gleamed under the room’s lighting.
His brows abruptly furrowed. He lifted a hand to press against his temple, shaking his head sharply as a pained groan escaped his throat.
Su Yu startled, instinctively steadying him. "What’s wrong?"
Did I accidentally trigger something with that damn bracelet?
Ji Yanli’s eyelids lifted, his gaze turning icy—so familiar it made Su Yu freeze.
This was the look he’d seen most often from Ji Yanli before the amnesia.
Su Yu cautiously tested the waters. "Ji Yanli… did you remember something?"
As he asked, he wasn’t even sure what answer he wanted.
That piercing stare lasted only a second before confusion clouded Ji Yanli’s eyes again.
He blinked. "Wife, what are you talking about?"
Of course it wouldn’t be that easy.
Su Yu curled his fingers slightly. "Go take a shower. I’m heading back to my room."
Ji Yanli moved to stop him.
Su Yu spun around with a sharp warning. "Don’t follow me, or I won’t speak to you ever again."
Ji Yanli stopped dead in his tracks.
The door opened and closed, leaving Su Yu alone in his own room.
The layout was nearly identical to the one next door—a large bed in the center, a wardrobe, and a vanity with a mirror.
Minimalist, as expected of a guest room.
Grabbing a robe from the wardrobe, Su Yu headed to the bathroom.
The oversized tub was already filled with warm water, its surface frothy with bubbles.
A strikingly handsome man submerged himself until only his head remained above water, his bangs pushed back to reveal a smooth forehead—accentuating a sharpness usually hidden beneath his carefree demeanor.
Su Yu exhaled, letting the warmth seep into his muscles.
His mind drifted back to what had just happened in Ji Yanli’s room.
He’d resorted to a threat straight out of a grade-school spat—If you follow me, I won’t talk to you.
A laugh almost escaped him.
He’d actually threatened Ji Yanli with that. And it had worked.
A month ago, he wouldn’t have dared imagine such a scenario.
In the past, no amount of sweet-talking or insults had ever gotten through to Ji Yanli—only earning him labels like "spoiled young master" or "good-for-nothing."
Yet now, Ji Yanli could be tamed with something so trivial.
Su Yu’s head spun with the realization. He slid deeper into the tub until his face was fully submerged, bubbles rising around him.
[Su Yu, baby, stop soaking! Get up—plot’s advancing without you!]
[Did our boy forget? That cheap brother of his is still lurking around.]
[If I recall the original plot correctly, this banquet is where Su Yan makes his second move on Ji Yanli. Originally, Mia was the one by his side, not Su Yu. With the storyline altered, who knows how it’ll play out now.]
[Back then, Mia being a woman made it less convenient for her to intervene, giving Su Yan an opening. Even though President Ji kicked him out, Su Yan’s accomplices captured the whole scene and used it to blackmail him into an engagement!]
An engagement with Su Yan?
The bubbles ceased as Su Yu resurfaced, his bangs plastered to his forehead.
Is Ji Yanli some kind of magnet? Every time he showed up, Su Yan latched onto him.
How had he never noticed before just how relentless his brother was?
Su Yu stepped out of the tub, water cascading down his legs as he toweled off and wrapped himself in the robe.
He took his time blow-drying his hair by the bed, decidedly not planning to check on Ji Yanli.
He’d already given him the key. Besides, a grown man like Ji Yanli could surely handle someone shorter than him.
And given Ji Yanli’s state earlier, if Su Yu went over now, he’d be the one in danger.
[No way President Ji would actually agree to marry Su Yan! But later, Su Yan frames Su Yu for the whole thing. Here comes the scapegoat!]
[Classic Su Yu. And Su Zhaofeng’s just as dumb—believing whatever Su Yan says. After this mess, he officially kicks Su Yu out of the family, forbidding him from ever returning.]
[Plus, Su Yu’s mom left something for him, but Su Yan hid the will. If he can’t go back to the Su family, he’ll never find it.]
The barrage of comments made Su Yu’s hand still mid-motion.
His mother left him a will?
Since when? He’d never heard of such a thing.
The story of his mother and Su Zhaofeng was straight out of a soap opera—a one-night stand that led to her becoming his mistress.
When she accidentally got pregnant with Su Yu, Su Zhaofeng wanted her to abort.
She refused and kept the child.
But for as long as Su Yu could remember, he’d grown up in an orphanage, with no memory of either parent. The matron had told him he was abandoned.
It wasn’t until Su Zhaofeng suddenly brought him back to the Su family that he gained his first official identity in this world—
The useless, illegitimate son of the Su household.
