SDS: Chapter 29

"Go Beg Qin Zhiyan for Help"

"Huh?"

Tang Keyi watched as Li Mingxing climbed back over the railing and hurried to follow.

"Call a driver since you’ve been drinking. I’m heading out."

Without looking back, Li Mingxing waved a hand and quickly hailed a taxi,

disappearing down the road.

Left alone by the riverbank, Tang Keyi shivered in the cold wind.

"Damn it! Should’ve minded my own business! That Li Mingxing—zero gratitude!"

Rushing to the private club at Han Qiuqiu’s urgent call,

Tang Keyi pushed open the door to find his friend fuming.

"What now? Who pissed off Young Master Han this time?"

Casually shrugging off his coat and hanging it up,

Tang Keyi poured himself a drink and sat across from Han Qiuqiu.

"In this entire city, only two people constantly get on my nerves!"

Han Qiuqiu downed his glass in one go, clearly seething.

"So which one of them was dumb enough to cross you today?"

Tang Keyi already knew the candidates.

"Qin Yilin? Or Li Mingxing?"

"Both!" Han Qiuqiu held up two fingers.

"They’re teaming up to ruin my life!"

"Do tell,"

Tang Keyi leaned in, eager for the drama.

"Qin Yilin’s lost his mind lately—blowing up my DMs, ambushing me at my studio after I blocked him, sending gifts I immediately trash! Like I can’t afford my own stuff?"

Tang Keyi nodded knowingly.

"So he’s trying to win you back?"

"Win me back?" Han Qiuqiu scoffed.

"In his dreams! What’s weird is that he’s never been this clingy before. All his past breakups were clean—no looking back. Why’s he tormenting me?"

"Ever consider,"

Tang Keyi smirked,

"that he might actually have real feelings for you?"

"Pfft."

Han Qiuqiu shot him a sidelong glance.

"Ask anyone in the city—since when does Qin Yilin do real feelings? Those words probably aren’t even in his dictionary."

Seeing his skepticism, Tang Keyi changed tack.

"What about Li Mingxing?"

"Don’t get me started!"

Han Qiuqiu slammed the table.

"Ran into him shopping this afternoon."

Tang Keyi could already imagine the verbal sparring.

"And?"

"I wasn’t in the mood to engage, but he immediately asked if I’d failed to book a New Year’s Eve suite at Capital Tower."

Han Qiuqiu fumed.

"Which—fine, I didn’t get one because my usual contact quit. He always reserved it for me the past two years! By the time I called this year, everything was gone."

"Who cares? We can party anywhere,"

Tang Keyi soothed.

"That’s what I thought—until I saw Li Mingxing’s smug face! Like booking some suite makes him king? No way!"

Han Qiuqiu clenched his fists.

"Now I have to secure one just to wipe that smirk off his face!"

"…Okay, go for it?"

Tang Keyi replied disinterestedly.

Han Qiuqiu fell silent, fixing Tang Keyi with an unnerving stare.

Sensing danger, Tang Keyi inched away.

"Spit it out. That look’s creeping me out."

"Tang Keyi,"

Han Qiuqiu fluttered his lashes mockingly,

"you are my connections."

"What do you want me to do?" Tang Keyi’s stomach dropped.

"Capital Tower’s owned by the Qins. They always reserve a suite for family use."

Han Qiuqiu grinned.

"Go beg Qin Zhiyan for me!"

Tang Keyi nearly leapt from his seat.

"Are you insane? Since when am I that close to him? Ask Qin Yilin—he’d say yes in a heartbeat!"

"And risk him blackmailing me into getting back together? This is about face, Tang Keyi! You have to help!"

Though Tang Keyi agreed pride was at stake, asking Qin Zhiyan felt impossible.

Sure, they’d grown closer—Qin Zhiyan would likely agree—

but ever since the horseback ride, being near him made Tang Keyi inexplicably flustered.

"Maybe Li Mingxing was just teasing? Let it go—we’ll find somewhere else to celebrate,"

he hedged.

He remembered Li Mingxing offering to pay at the jewelry store.

Beneath their rivalry, there’d been genuine kindness.

Perhaps it was time to bury the hatchet.

"Whose side are you on?!" Han Qiuqiu glared.

"We’re supposed to be a team!"

Cornered, Tang Keyi surrendered.

"Fine, fine! I’ll mention it to Qin Zhiyan—no guarantees."

"I know you’ll deliver!"

Han Qiuqiu brightened instantly.

"Your grandma’s birthday next week—Qin Zhiyan’s attending, right?"

"Yeah. He confirmed after getting the invite."

"Honestly, Grandma Tang’s genius for hosting a charity auction instead of accepting gifts. Classy and meaningful."

"She calls it ‘accumulating good karma.’"

"Decided what you’re donating?"

"Not yet. Probably something from my collection."

"Whatever it is, people will bid like crazy. Half the city’s waiting to curry favor with Young Master Tang."

"Takes one to know one, Young Master Han."

The two toasted to their mutual flattery.

Qin Zhiyan didn’t need Tang Keyi to ask—

his inner monologue had already spilled everything.

But he’d never bring it up first.

Like a seasoned hunter,

he preferred watching Tang Keyi squirm,

waiting for him to voice the request himself.
