SDS: Chapter 23

"Stop Bad-Mouthing Me in Your Head"

Wang Luosheng must have erased all traces to survive in the Wang family.

If he couldn’t even handle something this basic, I wouldn’t have any use for him.

Tang Keyi thought about Old Master Wang’s appearance and said doubtfully,

“But Wang Luosheng does look quite a bit like Old Master Wang…”

Before he could finish speaking, a sudden realization struck him.

Overcome with shock, he stammered,

“Could it be that Wang Luosheng is actually the son of that Second Master Wang…?”

Unlike Tang Keyi’s exaggerated reaction,

Qin Zhiyan remained completely calm and nodded,

confirming Tang Keyi’s guess.

“You knew all along?”

Tang Keyi asked, seeing how unfazed Qin Zhiyan was.

Qin Zhiyan didn’t answer, only nodding again.

Of course,

Qin Zhiyan wouldn’t have chosen Wang Luosheng without investigating him first.

He had discovered that Wang Luosheng secretly maintained contact with Old Master Wang’s only younger brother, Second Master Wang.

Though they appeared distant in public, their private interactions were well-concealed, completely unknown to outsiders.

Qin Zhiyan had already formed a hypothesis.

So, while it seemed like Wang Luosheng had voluntarily handed over his own leverage tonight, in reality,

Qin Zhiyan was merely verifying his own suspicions—and testing Wang Luosheng’s loyalty.

Realization dawning on him, Tang Keyi turned to Qin Zhiyan, his eyes shining even brighter.

[Qin Zhiyan is seriously amazing!]

Suppressing the urge to smirk, Qin Zhiyan basked in Tang Keyi’s admiring gaze.

Being idolized by this little guy didn’t feel half bad.

Tang Keyi was a little excited today, checking his phone every few minutes.

[Why hasn’t the notification come yet?]

Just as Qin Zhiyan stepped out of his office,

he saw Tang Keyi hunched over his desk,

staring intently at his phone.

Frowning, Qin Zhiyan wondered—

Who’s he waiting for a message from?

[Should I go to the finance department and hurry them up?]

[Salary, salary, why hasn’t my salary arrived yet?]

Qin Zhiyan: “…”

This is what he’s so worked up about?

ding-dong notification sound finally rang out, and

Tang Keyi immediately perked up, tapping open the message.

[Ah! My salary is finally here!]

[It’s only a few thousand, but it’s my first paycheck ever!]

[Gotta organize a gathering! Tonight, I’m treating everyone to celebrate!]

Qin Zhiyan was torn between laughter and exasperation—

Would those few thousand even cover a single bottle of the wine you usually drink?

Seeing how absorbed Tang Keyi was in his salary joy,

Qin Zhiyan deliberately made some noise to announce his presence.

Only then did Tang Keyi notice that Qin Zhiyan had been standing nearby

for who-knows-how-long.

[Crap, got caught using my phone at work!]

Given that it was his first paycheck, Qin Zhiyan decided to let it slide.

He pretended not to notice and was about to walk past when—

Encouraged by Qin Zhiyan’s unexpected leniency, Tang Keyi boldly asked,

“Boss Qin, if there’s nothing else to do today, can I leave early?”

Leave early to go have fun?

Such a slacker.

Qin Zhiyan’s expression darkened, about to refuse—

[I wonder what kind of gift a few thousand can buy. But since it’s my first paycheck, no matter what I get for Grandma, she’ll be happy, right?]

The words on Qin Zhiyan’s lips took a sharp turn, coming out as just two:

“You may.”

Fine.

Since you’re being filial this time, I’ll let it pass.

“Thank you, Boss Qin!”

Tang Keyi beamed.

[Didn’t expect Qin Zhiyan to be so easygoing.]

Qin Zhiyan snorted inwardly—

Remember my kindness more often, and stop badmouthing me in your head.

The moment Tang Keyi stepped into a well-known jewelry store,

the staff immediately greeted him with polished, eight-teeth smiles.

He was one of their top clients—every visit guaranteed them a hefty commission.

“Young Master Tang, welcome!” a clerk greeted enthusiastically.

“How may we assist you today?”

“I’m looking for a piece of jewelry to gift my grandmother. Any recommendations?”

“Young Master Tang, right this way.”

The clerk led him to a transparent display case.

“These necklaces are designed to be understated yet elegant, perfect for Madam Tang.”

“They’re nice, but…”

Tang Keyi glanced at the price tags and coughed awkwardly, tactfully adding,

“They might be a bit too extravagant.”

Assuming he preferred simpler styles, the clerk promptly directed him to another case.

“Then how about these, Young Master Tang? This emerald necklace, for instance, exudes refined sophistication—”

Tang Keyi wasn’t even looking at the jewelry anymore—his eyes were glued to the string of zeros on the price tags.

He cut straight to the point:

“What I mean is, do you have anything… cheaper?”

“Huh?”

The clerk froze momentarily.

Everything she had shown him so far was tailored to his usual spending habits.

Knowing Tang Keyi’s reputation for lavish spending,

she guessed he must have splurged elsewhere recently, leaving less budget this time.

Sympathetic, she smoothly guided him to another display.

“Young Master Tang, perhaps these rings? This emerald piece—”

Tang Keyi had run out of patience.

“Show me something even cheaper.”

The clerk’s professionalism wavered.

“…Could you specify a price range?”

“Under ten thousand.”

The clerk’s face went blank, as if struck by lightning.

Has the Tang family fallen from grace?

Or has Young Master Tang lost favor?

Her expression cycled through shock, confusion, and pity before she finally managed an apologetic smile.

“My apologies, Young Master Tang, but we don’t carry anything below ten thousand…”

Tang Keyi scowled.

“You call yourselves a jewelry store when you don’t even sell pieces for a few thousand?”

Clerk: “???”

Annoyed, Tang Keyi pulled out his phone and dialed the manager of another jewelry brand known for gold pieces.

The call connected instantly.

“Young Master Tang, how may I assist you?”

an overly eager voice answered.

Cutting to the chase, Tang Keyi asked,

“Do you sell any jewelry priced around a few thousand?”

“Pardon?”

The manager paused, double-checking the caller ID to confirm it was Tang Keyi, then replied courteously,

“Young Master Tang, our brand recently launched an affordable line, mostly priced around ten thousand.”

Finally satisfied, Tang Keyi said,

“I’ll stop by later to take a look.”

“Of course, we’ll await your visit.”

Tang Keyi browsed through a selection of plain gold rings and earrings—

all uninspired and lackluster.

Even trying to pick the best of the mediocre options proved difficult.

The manager asked curiously,

“Young Master Tang, who are you shopping for?”
