For a young master like him, Shen Le was just casually mentioning it and never expected Su Yu to actually hike up the mountain on foot to get a prayer bracelet.
But to everyone’s surprise, Su Yu really went. And he really brought one back.
Lin Yanjun and Shen Le were so shocked their jaws nearly hit the floor, both praising him as a true romantic.
At the time, Su Yu was only thinking—he wanted to give Song Yanchu something to protect his safety. The best blessing he could think of was peace.
On the day of the birthday banquet, everyone handed their gifts to Song Yanchu. Su Yu, caught up in the moment, also passed his gift over.
When Song Yanchu opened it, his expression didn’t change much. He just smiled and said thank you.
Beside him, Ji Yanli also handed over his gift. Song Yanchu’s face lit up with joy, and he opened it in front of everyone—inside was a bottle of perfume.
"Thanks, Brother Ji!"
Su Yu heard the delight in Song Yanchu’s voice as he smiled at Ji Yanli. Meanwhile, his prayer bracelet was casually tossed onto the table, lumped together with the pile of other gifts.
The banquet was crowded, and soon enough, Su Yu’s bracelet was knocked to the floor. By the time he noticed, it had already been stepped on countless times, covered in dust.
"So dirty."
He heard Ji Yanli say it.
The man narrowed his eyes, tilting his chin slightly, his expression aloof and indifferent. But his whole body reeked of alcohol, and his words were slightly slurred—like a drunken truth.
"Don’t give something like this to others. Just throw it away."
Su Yu’s mind burned with anger. Without thinking, he actually picked up the bracelet and threw it into the trash—along with his feelings.
"You’re the cleanest one, alright?"
A sudden vibration under his fingers snapped Su Yu out of his memories. He realized it was Ji Yanli’s phone ringing.
He quickly pulled the phone from the hidden pocket. The caller ID showed no name. He answered, "Hello? I’m not the owner of this phone."
"Young Master, you—wait, sir, you are…?"
The voice on the other end was familiar. Su Yu recognized it as Butler Li, Ji Yanli’s steward.
"I’m Su Yu. Ji Yanli is drunk. Could you come to Bocheng to pick him up?"
Butler Li’s tone turned urgent. "Please take care of the young master for now. I’ll be right there!"
After hanging up, Su Yu slipped the phone back into Ji Yanli’s pocket. The man’s arm was still draped over his waist, and Su Yu’s gaze fell on the sandalwood prayer beads around his wrist.
He had wanted to ask for a while now—the beads looked eerily familiar, almost identical to the ones he had gone to the temple to pray for.
Had someone given them to Ji Yanli? And he wore them every day?
Perhaps because their rivalry was so well-known, Butler Li arrived unusually fast, as if afraid that even a second’s delay would give Su Yu the chance to toss his young master into the sea.
The butler hurried out of the black sedan’s driver seat, his suspicious gaze darting between the two of them.
Su Yu felt a chill under the scrutiny. "I didn’t do anything to Ji Yanli."
Butler Li, looking like a farmer protecting his prized cabbage from a wild boar, reached out to help. "Young Master Ji, I’m here to take you home."
Ji Yanli didn’t budge—as if he had taken root on Su Yu’s body. No matter how hard Butler Li pulled, he wouldn’t move.
"Young Master Su, let go of Young Master Ji at once!"
Su Yu raised his hands in surrender. "I’m not holding him!"
Butler Li fell silent for a moment before continuing to tug at Ji Yanli. But his young master was like uncooperative superglue, stubbornly clinging to Su Yu without the slightest intention of letting go.
The struggle nearly exhausted the old man’s frail bones.
[Ji Yanli: Can’t you take a hint, Butler Li?]
[Secretly Obsessed Guy: Stop pulling me! I want to stay with my wife!]
[Su Yu, sweetheart, just take your husband home already.]
Su Yu sighed. "Butler Li, let me help."
He steadied Ji Yanli and took a few steps toward the car—and sure enough, this time, Ji Yanli moved.
Butler Li’s dentures nearly fell out in shock.
"...Then, I’ll trouble Young Master Su."
Butler Li drove steadily, the car gliding smoothly along the road.
At some point, Ji Yanli had rested his head on Su Yu’s shoulder, his breathing even.
Su Yu tried to shrug him off, but the man’s grip was unyielding.
Had he imagined it?
Ever since he started seeing those strange floating comments, Ji Yanli’s personality had completely changed. Before, the man would frown at the slightest contact with him.
Now, not only was he repeatedly helping Su Yu, but he was also initiating ambiguous physical contact.
Could it really be, as the comments suggested—that Ji Yanli was a masochist who had fallen for him after being beaten up?
Su Yu imagined Ji Yanli calling him "Master" and shuddered in disgust.
No. He’d have to hit him harder next time. Clearly, he hadn’t been hitting hard enough.
"Young Master Su, could you help me carry the young master inside?"
The car stopped outside a villa in the most expensive district of Haicheng—a prime coastal area where every property cost a fortune.
Su Yu dragged Ji Yanli out like a dead pig. The man’s forehead bumped against the car door, leaving a faint red mark.
Butler Li winced. "Good heavens, be careful!"
Su Yu turned. "Huh?"
Thud. Ji Yanli’s head took another hit.
At this rate, his young master wouldn’t survive being hauled inside.
Flustered, Butler Li quickly helped Su Yu carry Ji Yanli into the house.
The villa was spacious, decorated in a minimalist European style with a white-dominated palette that felt somewhat sterile.
The rose vase on the table was likely refreshed every morning—the flowers looked freshly arranged.
Su Yu and Butler Li carried Ji Yanli to his bedroom and set him on the bed.
The man rolled over, brows furrowed as if uncomfortable.
Butler Li muttered under his breath, "Ah, I need to go park the car first."
With that, he rushed out, leaving the "dangerous" Su Yu alone in the room with Ji Yanli.
Su Yu glanced at the man on the bed, then checked his phone. It was already midnight.
He’d done his good deed for the day. Surely those floating comments would quiet down now. Time to leave.
Hands in his pockets, Su Yu mentally debated where to stay for the night and took a step toward the door.
[Is Ji Yanli having a stomachache?]
[Looks like it… It’s from drinking too much at that birthday banquet. That’s when it started.]
[And later, when he took over the Ji family, he had to attend endless business dinners. That made it worse.]
[It even developed into stomach cancer later… I can’t bear to see a tragic ending. Can’t these two just be happy?]
Stomach cancer? Would Ji Yanli die?
Su Yu froze.
Even drunk, the man on the bed still wore that unapproachable expression—the same one Su Yu had seen countless times since they first met.
Based on his observations of the floating comments over the past few days, Su Yu guessed that the world they lived in had a predetermined plot and trajectory.
But for someone so untouchable, so lofty—was his ending really that miserable?
For some reason, Su Yu suddenly found the idea unbearable.
If he had to explain why… maybe it was because he couldn’t stand the thought of his rival dying in such an undignified way.
