Seeing that Nian Jinsui was getting agitated again, Qin Chengyu wisely decided to drop the topic of Chu Heting and changed the subject.
"Since gege missed me, I'll come back every noon to have lunch with you from now on. After work, I'll return as soon as possible too."
He really hadn’t considered this properly before. He’d been so focused on securing control of the Qin Group, wanting to become more outstanding to match Nian Jinsui and better protect him.
But he couldn’t get his priorities wrong—in front of Nian Jinsui, even the Qin Group had to take a backseat.
Qin Chengyu had expected Nian Jinsui to at least look a little happier hearing this, but instead, he shook his head and refused.
"I know you just became the Qin Group’s CEO. A new broom sweeps clean—you must have a lot to handle to earn their respect. I don’t want to hold you back."
Nian Jinsui’s mental age was already twenty-six. He wasn’t a child who would throw unreasonable tantrums. Having experienced the workplace himself, he understood how tough work could be. Even though Qin Chengyu held a high position, he had just taken over, and Nian Jinsui could guess that Qin Chengyu must be facing many difficulties.
"Besides…" Nian Jinsui shot Qin Chengyu a glare and muttered, "Who said I missed you…"
Qin Chengyu ignored the last, tsundere remark and reached out to pull Nian Jinsui into his arms. "Gege is so good to me."
But Nian Jinsui unceremoniously smacked his hand away, scowling. "Don’t try to sweet-talk me! I’m still mad!"
"Gege—"
Nian Jinsui covered Qin Chengyu’s mouth with his hand. "Stop calling me gege. Even if you call me grandpa, it won’t work."
Though the mention of "grandpa" inevitably reminded Qin Chengyu of that embarrassing mushroom poisoning incident, he still loved seeing Nian Jinsui act petty with him. Patiently, he coaxed, "Then what will make gege forgive me?"
"If I tell you, will you actually do it?"
"Yes." Qin Chengyu nodded without hesitation. He dared to agree because he already had a rough idea of what Nian Jinsui might ask for.
"Then I want you to sleep in another room!"
Qin Chengyu’s voice lowered slightly. "Gege means… forever?"
Meeting Qin Chengyu’s sharp gaze, Nian Jinsui gulped silently and hesitated. "...A month?"
Before Qin Chengyu could respond, Nian Jinsui guiltily amended, "Then… a week, at least?"
He thought even a week might be pushing it—Qin Chengyu would probably haggle further. But to his surprise, Qin Chengyu agreed immediately without another word, leaving Nian Jinsui utterly baffled.
Since when did Qin Chengyu become so easy to negotiate with?!
I should’ve said a month.
True to his word, Qin Chengyu slept in another room that very night and continued to abide by their agreement for the entire week.
However, he still came back every noon to have lunch with Nian Jinsui, and his evenings became increasingly punctual. After dinner, they could take walks, play games, or work out together.
But when bedtime came, Qin Chengyu would obediently leave their shared bedroom without any attempts to linger shamelessly.
Without Qin Chengyu’s wandering hands bothering him, Nian Jinsui slept peacefully and comfortably, as if things had returned to how they were back in the Nian household—living under the same roof but in separate rooms.
Yet Qin Chengyu’s straightforwardness and reliability only highlighted Nian Jinsui’s own tendency to break promises. Though he had no choice, Nian Jinsui couldn’t help feeling a little guilty toward Qin Chengyu.
Finally, the week passed. Nian Jinsui figured that, given Qin Chengyu’s nature, after holding back for so long, he’d probably go overboard again at night. But considering how sincerely Qin Chengyu had repented, he decided not to make a big deal out of it.
Nian Jinsui had already mentally prepared himself—only for Qin Chengyu to announce after dinner that he had some urgent work to handle, then vanish for the entire night.
As bedtime approached, Nian Jinsui waited and waited, but Qin Chengyu never showed up. Furious, he buried himself under the covers and went to sleep.
Fine, don’t come! Who needs you anyway?!
But the next day, Qin Chengyu didn’t even return for lunch—disappearing entirely for a whole day.
Nian Jinsui’s anger shot straight to his throat.
This Qin Chengyu—he’s definitely playing hard to get!
This scheming, manipulative villain!
Fine!
If he’s not bothering me,
I’ll sleep even better! Let’s see if he dares to stay out of my room forever!
Yet by the third day, with still no sign of Qin Chengyu, Nian Jinsui began to sense something was off. Had something major happened at the Qin Group? The novel didn’t mention any incidents at this point—Qin Zhuo hadn’t even had his stroke yet. Had the plot changed again? What the hell is Qin Chengyu so busy with?!
So Nian Jinsui tried fishing for information from Butler Wu.
"Butler Wu, has Qin Chengyu been really busy these past two days?"
"Indeed. The Second Young Master is in his rut right now, but he refuses to take suppressants, insisting on toughing it out. He hasn’t even been able to go to the company—just working from home."
Butler Wu spilled everything Nian Jinsui wanted to know in one go.
"Rut?" Nian Jinsui finally realized—
oh right, Qin Chengyu is an Alpha now, so he has ruts.
How could I have forgotten that?!
No wonder he’s been MIA.
Butler Wu noticed Nian Jinsui’s surprise and seemed puzzled himself.
"Young Madam, you didn’t know?"
Nian Jinsui still wasn’t used to the title and didn’t know how to respond.
Avoiding eye contact, he silently recalled the messages Qin Chengyu had sent him—all generic excuses about being busy and telling him to eat first, with zero mention of his rut.
