Chapter 89 Caught in the Act? Mission Accepted

After dinner, Lin Shuqian went for a walk with Nian Yixin.

Nian Jinsui, trying to leave the Nian family mansion unnoticed, was intercepted by Qin Chengxu.

"Jinsui, heading out?"

Qin Chengxu asked as he suddenly stood from the couch.

Nian Jinsui felt his nerves tighten.

Why isn’t he back in his room by now?

Why is he still lingering in the living room?

Feigning calmness, Nian Jinsui conjured an excuse.

"Yeah, an old classmate asked to meet up."

Qin Chengxu stepped closer.

"I have some errands to run later. Why don’t I drop you off?"

"No need!"

Nian Jinsui waved off the offer hastily.

"It’s out of your way. I’ll manage on my own."

Qin Chengxu nodded with apparent indifference.

"Alright. Be careful and come back early."

"You too,"

Nian Jinsui replied with a sigh of relief before slipping out the door.

Qin Chengxu, however, didn’t buy his explanation.

Nian Jinsui hadn’t even asked where he was headed before declaring it was

"out of the way."

His behavior was too suspicious to ignore.

After a brief moment of thought, Qin Chengxu took out his phone and booked a ride.

A call came almost immediately.

"Hello, sir. I’ve arrived at your location. You can come out now."

"Did you see a silver RR convertible leave just now?"

"Uh, yes, I did. It just drove past."

"Follow it and let me know where it goes. I’ll pay you ten times the fare."

"Catching someone cheating, huh? Don’t worry, I’ve got this!"

The driver sounded positively thrilled.

Qin Chengxu: "…"

Moments later, Qin Chengxu also left the house, opting for a taxi to avoid being spotted.

The ride-share driver later called back.

"Sir, the young man in the silver car just went into a café. I’ll send you the address. Want me to go in and check things out? If you’re trying to stay lowkey, I can snap a few photos for you—for a fee, of course."

Understanding the man’s intent, Qin Chengxu agreed without hesitation.

"Do it. Name your price."

"On it!"

Soon after, the driver sent over photos.

Brows furrowing, Qin Chengxu scrutinized the image.

So, this "old classmate" is… definitely old.

Inside the café,

Nian Jinsui stirred his coffee with deliberate slowness,

occasionally lifting his gaze to scrutinize the woman sitting across from him.

Her cloudy eyes, weathered face,

and bitter expression painted a picture of someone who had not led a happy life.

But pity was not on Nian Jinsui’s mind.

Having knowledge of her backstory,

he saw her as a self-destructive figure unworthy of sympathy.

While he assessed her, Xiang Liumei was also sizing up Nian Jinsui.

From what she had heard through Ye Kang, she expected him to be an arrogant, clueless brat.

Yet the composed demeanor and lack of panic he exhibited contradicted those assumptions,

making her second-guess his vulnerability.

Nian Jinsui finally set his spoon down and sipped his coffee

with practiced elegance before leaning back and meeting her gaze.

"Why did you ask me here?"

His voice was steady, almost lazy, yet laced with an unmistakable authority.

The fluidity of his movements momentarily distracted Xiang Liumei.

What a product of privilege,

even his smallest actions exude refinement,

she thought before composing herself.

"I’m Xiang Liumei, a retired nurse from the hospital where you were born. It was me who swapped you and the real Nian family heir. Without me, you wouldn’t be enjoying your life of luxury today,"

she declared smugly.

Nian Jinsui sneered.

"Don’t frame it as if I owe you something. You acted out of your selfish desires; don’t try to dress it up as charity."

The unexpected response caught Xiang Liumei off guard.

Testing the waters, she asked,

"So, you’re aware of the situation?"

"Otherwise, what? Did you think you simply acted on impulse?"

Nian Jinsui scoffed.

Flustered, Xiang Liumei straightened her posture.

"If you knew the suffering Lin Shuqian and Nian Yixin caused me, you wouldn’t talk to me like this."

"Then enlighten me."

Nian Jinsui feigned disinterest,

though he knew the story all too well.

Xiang Liumei launched into her woeful tale once more,

recounting her husband’s disgrace and her subsequent vengeance.

"It’s Lin Shuqian and Nian Yixin who owe me! I want them to suffer!"

she declared with venom.

Nian Jinsui didn’t waver. His tone turned icy.

"No, what you suffer from is blindness—to both justice and morality. Your husband was in the wrong, yet you twist reality to justify his actions. Do you think everyone shares your terrible taste in men?"

Her face turned crimson with rage.

While many had whispered such sentiments behind her back, no one had ever confronted her directly.

"You don’t know anything!"

she shouted.

"Those women set him up! Lin Shuqian and Nian Yixin framed him! They deserve to have raised someone else’s child for over two decades!"

Nian Jinsui rubbed his temples in exasperation. Seeing that reasoning with her was futile,

he got straight to the point.

"What do you want?"

"80 million! Give me 80 million, and I’ll keep your secret. You can continue living as the young master of the Nian family."

Nian Jinsui raised an eyebrow.

"80 million isn’t pocket change. I’ll need time to arrange the funds, but first, I’ll verify your claims with a DNA test. Let’s meet again next week. I’ll contact you."

Xiang Liumei seemed satisfied.

"Fine, I’ll wait for your call."

Nian Jinsui watched her closely.

She truly doesn’t understand who she’s dealing with.

In the original storyline, Nian Jinsui, fearing exposure, hired someone to kill Xiang Liumei.

Later, he attempted to eliminate Ning Liang’an as well,

though Ning was saved at the last minute by Chu Heting.

The escalating danger to Ning Liang’an’s life had drawn Chu Heting’s attention.

Following the trail, he discovered Nian Jinsui’s prior crimes, including Xiang Liumei’s murder.

This eventually unraveled Nian Jinsui’s entire scheme...

But this time, Nian Jinsui had no intention of letting history repeat itself.
