Chu Hejun approached Nian Jinsui, attempting to console him.
"Jinsui, don’t be upset. Maybe you can use this as an opportunity to consider other people."
Nian Jinsui, oblivious to the subtle hint in Chu Hejun’s words, patted him on the shoulder and started consoling him instead.
"You too. Just because you got rejected doesn’t mean you should feel down. You’re about to head abroad, right? There are plenty of handsome guys out there waiting for you to choose from."
Chu Hejun’s expression instantly darkened as if he’d swallowed a fly.
Not only had Nian Jinsui rejected his confession, but now he was also enthusiastically encouraging him to look elsewhere.
Did Nian Jinsui dislike him that much?
"Alright, enough about unpleasant things. Let’s get to grilling. I’m starving."
Nian Jinsui began picking out skewers.
"I’ll start with a sausage. Chengyu, do you want one?"
Qin Chengyu nodded.
"Yes."
"How about a broccoli skewer too?"
"Sure."
The natural and harmonious exchange between Nian Jinsui and Qin Chengyu only added fuel to Chu Hejun’s irritation.
He glanced over, locking eyes with Qin Chengyu, who wore a faintly smug smile, clearly reveling in his victory.
The farmhouse host brought over two steaming pots of soup and announced,
"Here we have mushroom chicken soup and wild vegetable chicken soup. The chicken is freshly flown in from Q City and is very nutritious. Enjoy! The remaining mushrooms have been cleaned and are ready for grilling—just make sure they’re thoroughly cooked!"
"Thanks, boss!"
Nian Jinsui cheerfully replied, eagerly eyeing the soups.
"I can’t wait to try them."
Seeing his enthusiasm, Qin Chengyu was the first to lift the lid and serve a bowl for Nian Jinsui.
"Careful, it’s hot."
Nian Jinsui took a sip and immediately praised,
"Delicious! So fresh and flavorful. You guys should try it too!"
Meanwhile, Chu Heting sidled up to the sulking Chu Hejun and whispered,
"Now’s your chance to shine."
Chu Hejun perked up.
"You’re right. I’ll grill some mushrooms for him!"
Everyone began tending to their respective grills.
Nian Jinsui wandered over to Chu Heting and Ning Liang’an’s station,
curiously observing their progress.
Ning Liang’an warmly invited,
"Young Master Nian, would you like to try one of the lamb skewers Chu Shaoye grilled?"
Chu Heting frowned.
"Liang’an, those are for you."
"If they’re for me, can’t I choose to share them with Young Master Nian?"
Ning Liang’an retorted, feigning a stern expression.
"Exactly"
Nian Jinsui chimed in, clearly enjoying the show.
"Liang’an wants to share with me. Is that a problem?"
"…Fine."
Chu Heting gritted his teeth, recalling Chu Hejun’s earlier comment.
If Ning Liang’an and Nian Jinsui weren’t both Omegas, he might’ve suspected something fishy between them.
Sensing his victory, Nian Jinsui pushed further.
"I want two skewers—one spicy and one not."
Chu Heting: …
He endured.
Meanwhile,
Qin Chengyu was at another grill when Nian Jinsui cheerfully ran over, handing him a skewer.
"Try this—non-spicy lamb, grilled by Chu… Heting-ge."
Nian Jinsui devoured the skewer in a few bites,
savoring the triumph of snatching food from Chu Heting and adding to his annoyance.
Watching Nian Jinsui’s exuberant expression,
Qin Chengyu’s eyes darkened slightly.
Was eating something grilled by Chu Heting really that delightful?
Even though Chu Heting was now with Ning Liang’an,
did Nian Jinsui still have lingering feelings for him?
"Jinsui, try one of mine."
Qin Chengyu handed over a skewer he’d just finished grilling.
"This is much more to my taste!"
Nian Jinsui exclaimed, earning a satisfied look from Qin Chengyu.
After finishing several skewers by Qin Chengyu’s grill, Nian Jinsui was called over by Chu Hejun.
"Jinsui, the mushrooms are done. I made them spicy, just how you like."
Nian Jinsui took a bite and praised,
"Delicious! Could I have a non-spicy one for Chengyu?"
Chu Hejun hesitated briefly before handing over another skewer.
"Here, give him this."
"Thanks! I’ll grab some other skewers for you in return."
Nian Jinsui accepted the skewer and dashed back to Qin Chengyu’s side.
As Nian Jinsui handed the skewer to Qin Chengyu, Chu Hejun watched from afar.
When he noticed Qin Chengyu looking back at him after taking the skewer,
Chu Hejun quickly lowered his gaze, feigning focus on his grill.
Unaware of the tension, Nian Jinsui urged,
"Chengyu, what are you staring at? Try it—it’s great."
"Mm."
Qin Chengyu finally took a bite, his gaze settling back on Nian Jinsui.
After the meal, everyone retreated to the farmhouse’s guest rooms for a nap.
Nian Jinsui woke up feeling well-rested but noticed how quiet the house was.
Checking his phone, he saw a message from Chu Hejun explaining that Chu Heting had to leave early, so their group had already headed back.
Not wanting to disturb him, they hadn’t said goodbye.
Yawning, Nian Jinsui got out of bed and called out for Qin Chengyu but received no response.
"Did he leave too?"
Nian Jinsui muttered, only to spot Qin Chengyu sitting in the courtyard, playing with a small dog.
"Chengyu, let’s get ready to head back."
Qin Chengyu looked up at him, studying him for a moment before suddenly asking,
"Are you my dad?"
Nian Jinsui ???
What kind of international joke is this?
Annoyed, he retorted,
"I’m your grandpa!"
To his shock, Qin Chengyu stood up straight and greeted him earnestly.
"Hello, Grandpa."
Nian Jinsui: !!!
"Qin Chengyu, did you eat something weird?"
Nian Jinsui approached him, scanning him for signs of illness.
Qin Chengyu’s clear, innocent eyes and slightly childish voice replied,
"Grandpa, I didn’t eat anything strange."
A chill ran down Nian Jinsui’s spine as a terrible realization dawned on him.
Could Qin Chengyu have been poisoned by the mushrooms?
Panicking, he rushed to find the farmhouse host.
"Grandpa, where are you going?"
Qin Chengyu called after him.
"Stay here like a good boy! Grandpa will be right back!"
Oddly enough, the title rolled off his tongue naturally.
Well, looks like I’ve suddenly gained a very big grandson.
