Chapter 81 A Five-Person Gathering and Mushroom Feast

This gathering wasn’t part of the original plot,

so Nian Jin sui assumed nothing unexpected would happen.

After getting Chu Hejun’s approval, he decided to bring Qin Chengyu along.

By now, it had become a habit for Nian Jin sui to include Qin Chengyu in nearly all his outings.

Qin Chengyu drove them to the venue on time, following the navigation system.

Chu Hejun, Chu Heting, and Ning Liang’an arrived in the same car and were already waiting.

The moment Ning Liang’an saw Nian Jinsui, he excitedly ran over to chat, clearly thrilled after not seeing him for a while.

Meanwhile, the three men left on the sidelines each had their grievances.

Chu Heting, who was still only in an ambiguous stage with Ning Liang’an, felt irked seeing how warmly Ning Liang’an treated Nian Jinsui.

Chu Hejun, hoping to create fond memories with Nian Jinsui before leaving, found himself unable to get a word in edgewise because of Ning Liang’an on one side and Qin Chengyu on the other.

And Qin Chengyu? He was just generally displeased with everything.

He was annoyed that Chu Heting was the person Nian Jinsui liked.

He was annoyed that Chu Hejun liked Nian Jinsui.

And he was annoyed that Nian Jin sui seemed to enjoy talking to Ning Liang an so much.

Chu Hejun whispered to Chu Heting,

"Can you get Ning Liang’an to leave Nian Jinsui alone? They’ve been talking forever."

Seated in the shade, Chu Heting kept his gaze on Ning Liang’an and replied nonchalantly, "I’m not going to meddle in something that’s a lose-lose for me. If you want to win Nian Jinsui over, you’ll have to do it yourself."

When Chu Heting first learned of Chu Hejun’s feelings for Nian Jin sui, he was skeptical.

But as the saying goes, everyone has their preferences.

Plus, after the school anniversary incident,

during which Nian Jin sui stepped in to save the day and prevent a stage accident,

it became clear that Nian Jin sui wasn’t a bad person at heart.

Chu Hejun had his reasons for liking him.

Chu Heting didn’t entirely understand it, but he respected it.

"I haven’t relied on myself?" Chu Hejun retorted, feeling indignant.

"I confessed publicly at my concert. Unlike you, dragging your feet even though you both like each other."

Chu Heting finally glanced at Chu Hejun and responded dryly,

"Right, you’re amazing. You confessed and got rejected."

Chu Hejun: …

All Chu Hejun could do was silently curse before flipping a discreet middle finger at Chu Heting when he wasn’t looking.

Chu Heting continued,

"I know Ning Liang an likes me too, but I can tell he still has some reservations. I don’t want to pressure him. It’s better to let things take their course."

"People say rivals in love always clash. How come Nian Jinsui and Ning Liang’an get along so well? Good thing they’re both Omegas, or I’d think Ning Liang an liked Nian Jinsui."

"Are you spouting nonsense again?"

Chu Heting frowned, then changed the subject.

"By the way, I heard a rumor recently that the Nian family might be planning to have Qin Chengyu marry into their family."

Chu Hejun was stunned.

"No way. Qin Chengyu is from the Qin family. Qin Zhuo cares so much about appearances. Even if he dislikes Qin Chengyu, he wouldn’t let him marry into the Nian family."

"Qin Zhuo is vain, but he also considers the benefits. Our families have always been rivals. Gaining the favor of the neutral Nian family would be a significant advantage."

"But I don’t think Nian Jinsui likes Qin Chengyu. At best, Qin Chengyu is just a tagalong. Nian Jinsui wouldn’t agree."

"Who knows what the future holds? Maybe your rival isn’t me, but Qin Chengyu."

Chu Heting’s sharp gaze shifted to Qin Chengyu.

Qin Chengyu immediately sensed something and returned Chu Heting’s glare,

their eyes locking in a silent battle that seemed to spark flames in the air.

Fortunately, the farmhouse host appeared just in time to break the tension.

"Welcome to my farmhouse! Now that everyone’s here, let’s head up the mountain to forage for mushrooms and wild vegetables. When we return, we’ll have mushroom soup, vegetable soup, and barbecue for lunch. Be sure not to pick brightly colored mushrooms, and let me check your finds before we cook them. Let’s get started!"

Nian Jin sui, intrigued by the idea of foraging, eagerly followed the host up a mountain trail.

Once they reached the foraging area,

the host gave a brief introduction to the edible mushrooms and vegetables before letting everyone explore on their own.

However, Ning Liang an and Qin Chengyu stuck close to Nian Jin sui.

Noticing that Ning Liang an seemed to want to talk to him,

Nian Jin sui decided to send Qin Chengyu off.

"Chengyu, go gather more mushrooms. We can barbecue them later."

Qin Chengyu glanced at Ning Liang an, understanding the situation, and nodded before walking away.

"Ning Liang an, do you have something to say? It’s just the two of us now. Go ahead,"

Nian Jin sui said, searching for mushrooms as he spoke.

After hesitating briefly, Ning Liang an finally asked,

"Young Master Nian, do you like Young Master Chu?"

Like, my foot.

Before Nian Jinsui could respond, the system interrupted with a reminder:

[Friendly Reminder: The host must not deviate from character settings. Please answer carefully.]

Nian Jin sui pursed his lips, knowing this was coming. His voice was stiff as he replied,

"Yes, I do."

Ning Liang an lowered his gaze and said nothing more.

Watching the hesitation on Ning Liang an’s face, Nian Jin sui had a vague suspicion.

According to the novel,

Chu Heting and Ning Liang an should have confirmed their relationship by now.

Yet something seemed to be holding them back.

Based on Ning Liang an’s question,

could it be that he was hesitating because of concerns about Nian Jin sui’s feelings?

Just then, a new system task appeared.

[Mission Alert: To ensure the smooth progression of the main storyline, the host must counsel Ning Liang’an and help him and Chu Heting confirm their romantic relationship.]

Nian Jinsui sighed inwardly.

Am I not supposed to be the scheming villain here?

Since when do villains become love counselors for the protagonists?

Oh well.

He’d lived longer than Ning Liang’an and eaten more rice,

so he might as well act as the wise older brother for once.
