Qin Cheng yu said nothing, his gaze fixed on Nian Jin sui,
who was smiling radiantly in front of Chu He ting.
A shadow flickered in his eyes.
“Qin Cheng yu, you really look like a puppy waiting for its
owner to come home right now,”
a mocking voice broke through his thoughts.
Turning his head, Qin Cheng yu met Qin Cheng luo’s sneering
expression.
Holding a glass of red wine, Qin Cheng luo approached with a
smirk.
“Before, when we joked about you being Nian Jin sui’s dog,
we were just teasing.
But now, it seems like you’ve actually made yourself his
dog.”
Qin Cheng yu’s eyes revealed neither anger nor shame.
His long fingers tightened slightly around the base of his
champagne glass.
He took a sip, his lashes lowering to conceal his emotions.
Dogs came in many forms—guard dogs, lap dogs, or even
cherished companions that their owners held close, eating and sleeping by their
side.
Thinking of it that way, being a dog didn’t seem so bad if
it was the last kind.
Qin Cheng luo, unable to stand Qin Cheng yu’s calm and
indifferent demeanor, pressed on, his tone dripping with disdain:
“Honestly, Qin Cheng yu, you’ve always been someone I could
bully without you ever giving in.
I used to think you were stubborn and had a spine.
But after just a short time with the Nian family, you’ve
become so obedient and docile.
I guess I overestimated you back then.”
Qin Cheng yu’s expression remained unreadable.
He glanced up slightly, and the next words out of his mouth
left Qin Cheng luo stunned.
“I’m not stubborn or resilient. I just knew how to make you
lose control, to make Grandfather disappointed in you.
After all, you’re an Alpha with a defective gland. Qin Cheng
luo, you’re nothing but a failure.”
Qin Cheng yu had known from a young age that no matter how
excellent his performance,
no matter how many first-place titles he earned, he would
never be Qin Zhuo’s first choice.
Because he was a Beta, he was never an option for the Qin
family’s patriarch.
Since that was the case, he decided Qin Cheng luo wouldn’t
get what he wanted so easily either.
“That’s impossible… You’re lying…”
Qin Cheng luo’s eyes widened in shock, his face turning
pale.
He desperately told himself it wasn’t true—that Qin Cheng yu
was bluffing, trying to scare him.
But when their eyes met, he saw the mockery and disdain in
Qin Cheng yu’s gaze, confirming his worst fears.
To think he had been toyed with by someone he looked down on
the most—this humiliation sent Qin Cheng luo into a fit of rage.
“Qin Cheng yu, how dare you play me!”
Qin Cheng luo, consumed by anger, overturned the small table
in front of him, sending several glasses crashing to the ground in a flurry of
shattering glass.
Fortunately, Qin Cheng yu had anticipated this and stepped
back just in time, avoiding the mess.
Tonight wasn’t his show; he had no intention of putting
himself in a humiliating position.
Moreover, he had promised Nian Jin sui he wouldn’t offer
himself up as a target for Qin Cheng luo’s bullying anymore.
With a faint smirk, Qin Cheng yu casually walked to Qin Cheng
luo’s side,
holding his champagne. His lips curled as he spoke softly:
“Now you believe me, don’t you? See? It’s that easy to
provoke you.”
Qin Cheng luo froze, glancing around in panic.
All eyes were on him, and he could hear the hushed whispers
around the room.
“Isn’t that Qin Cheng luo? How could he lose his composure
like this at the Chu family’s banquet? Is he drunk?”
“How could a few glasses of wine get him drunk? Haven’t you
heard? His Alpha gland is defective, so his emotions are unstable.”
“Really? Can someone like that still take over the Qin
family?”
“Well, nothing’s confirmed yet. Who knows what the Qin
patriarch is planning?”
Qin Cheng luo hastily raised a hand to cover his face,
terrified of being recognized.
This was the Chu family’s banquet, and he was representing
the Qin family.
He was supposed to act with dignity and composure, not
embarrass the Qin name.
It wasn’t intentional—it was just a habit, a reflex. How had
he lost control so suddenly…?
While Qin Cheng luo spiraled into self-doubt,
Qin Cheng yu had already disappeared into the crowd,
leisurely sipping his drink.
He had no interest in watching Qin Cheng luo’s disgrace any
longer.
Like a master leaving the scene of his craft, he retreated,
his work unnoticed.
From the moment they were in the VIP room at the
boutique,
Qin Cheng yu could see how much this banquet meant to Qin Cheng
luo.
He hadn’t planned to intervene, but Qin Cheng luo
practically threw himself onto the firing line—
especially when Qin Cheng yu was in a foul mood.
His gaze wandered through the crowd, landing precisely on
Nian Jin sui.
The commotion had caught Nian Jin sui’s attention for a
moment,
but after a quick glance, he returned to chatting and
laughing with Chu He ting.
A surge of frustration coursed through Qin Cheng yu.
He set his glass on the nearby table, but either his force
was too strong or the glass was poorly made—
it snapped at the base, slicing his finger.
He glanced down at the small wound, watching as tiny
droplets of blood seeped out.
A glimmer of emotion flashed in his eyes before he pressed
his hand against the broken glass.
If only Nian Jin sui’s gaze would stay on him alone…
“Brother Ting! Congratulations on the success of your
project! Your speech just now was so impressive—I clapped so hard my hands
almost hurt!”
Nian Jin sui approached Chu He ting with a playful, syrupy
tone, though he inwardly mocked himself:
Sorry, I didn’t even clap for you,
let alone listen to more than two sentences of your
speech.
“Nian Jin sui, what are you doing here?”
Chu He ting asked, slightly surprised to see him.
He distinctly remembered not sending the Nian family an
invitation.
This was the first time he’d seen Nian Jin sui since their
unpleasant encounter at the Imperial Capital Building.
The memory of Nian Jin sui splashing soup on Ning Liang an
still lingered, leaving Chu He ting unimpressed.
“Chu He jun gave me an invitation!”
Nian Jin sui crossed his arms, feigning indignation.
“Brother Ting, have you forgotten about me? How could I not
witness such an important moment for you? And you didn’t even send me an
invitation. I’m so mad at you!”
Surely this would disgust him enough to make him kick me
out, Nian Jin sui thought.
Chu He ting was about to reply when the sudden noise
disrupted their conversation.
Following the commotion, Chu He ting turned to see Qin Cheng
luo causing a scene.
His eyes filled with disdain as he motioned for a server to
clean up the mess.
He knew exactly what kind of person Qin Cheng luo was and had never taken him seriously.
