Chapter 53 The Scent of That Day

Nian Jin sui waved his hand dismissively.

"Cheng yu, you’re so dull! I told you to stay at home if you’d be bored. It’s much more relaxing there."

Qin Cheng yu quickly adjusted his expression before responding,

"It’s boring at home, too. After I drop you off at the banquet, I’ll head back."

Before Nian Jin sui could reply, an all-too-familiar, grating voice interrupted.

Both of them instantly shared the same look of irritation.

"What a coincidence, Nian Jin sui. We meet again! I just knew you’d show up at tonight’s banquet."

Nian Jin sui turned, his face souring with distaste.

"What’s this, Qin's eldest young master? Did you come to this shop to pick up your suit, too?"

 "That’s right,"

Qin Cheng luo answered smugly.

Though the Qin and Chu families were rivals in the business world,

they still maintained the appearance of civility to avoid public mockery.

So, when Chu Heting’s family extended an invitation to Qin Zhuo,

he passed it on to Qin Cheng luo as part of his grooming process.

Qin Cheng luo, viewing Chu Heting as a competitor,

wasn’t about to miss a chance to one-up him. Hence, he’d gone out of his way to custom-tailor a suit.

His gaze fell on Nian Jin sui, undisguised admiration and avarice gleaming in his eyes.

"Nian Jin sui, you look stunning today. You remind me of that day… Your scent…"

Qin Cheng luo took an exaggerated sniff. \

Mmm… Delicious…"

Before he could finish, Qin Cheng yu stepped forward,

placing himself between Nian Jin sui and Qin Cheng luo, his expression sharp with hostility.

Nian Jin sui felt a shiver of disgust and immediately retorted,

"Qin Cheng luo, seeing you reminds me of your scent that day, too. Like a sewer. Stinking up the place! Oh, and let’s not forget you wailing like a pig after getting your butt handed to you. Just thinking about it makes me laugh. Hahaha!"

Qin Cheng luo’s face burned with embarrassment.

Glancing around, he noticed the staff discreetly preparing to leave the VIP suite.

After all, these elite heirs valued their pride immensely;

overhearing something they shouldn’t could cost the staff their jobs.

But Nian Jin sui stopped them.

"No need to leave. I’m done here. Just pack up my clothes. We’ll be leaving soon."

Qin Cheng luo turned his ire to Qin Cheng yu.

His tone was both mocking and venomous.

"So, Nian Jin sui isn’t planning to take you, huh? Figures. I’ve never seen anyone bring their dog to a banquet."

Qin Cheng luo’s face twisted into a sneer as he continued,

"Qin Cheng yu, you don’t belong. You should know that. Just because I’m not pursuing payback now doesn’t mean I won’t. I’d like to see how long Nian Jin sui will shield you. Pray you never fall into my hands."

Such degrading threats were nothing new to Qin Cheng yu,

who remained outwardly calm, his expression unmoved.

But Nian Jin sui’s eyes narrowed, his tone sharp as he raised his voice:

"Who says Cheng yu isn’t going?"

Nian Jin sui turned to the staff.

"Bring out your latest line of formal suits. We need to pick something fitting."

"Right away, Young Master Nian!"

The staff scrambled into action, soon returning with a rack of sleek, high-end suits.

"Young Master Nian, what do you think of these?"

Qin Cheng luo’s expression darkened as he hissed,

"You can’t be serious, Nian Jin sui. What identity would Qin Cheng yu even use to attend? He doesn’t have the qualifications. Don’t let him embarrass himself—or you."

"If you can attend, why can’t he?"

Nian Jin sui’s voice dripped with sarcasm.

"Qin Cheng luo, maybe wait until you’ve actually become the head of Qin Corporation before strutting around in front of me. Right now, the only one embarrassing himself here is You."

Turning back to the staff, Nian Jin sui instructed,

"Remember, this is Qin Cheng yu, the Second Young Master of the Qin family."

"Understood, Young Master Nian."

The staff nodded, bowing slightly to Qin Cheng yu.

"Second Young Master Qin."

Qin Cheng luo erupted.

"He doesn’t even live in the Qin household anymore! There’s only one young master in the Qin family, and that’s me! Are you all just blindly listening to Nian Jin sui? Do you not see me standing here? With this kind of service, I doubt I’ll ever patronize your shop again."

Nian Jin sui’s response was cutting:

"Fine by me. You can leave now. Forget your suit, too—I’ll pay for it, so the shop doesn’t take a loss. What do you say, Qin Cheng luo? Do you have the guts?"

Caught between pride and practicality, Qin Cheng luo faltered.

He couldn’t abandon his custom-made suit,

especially with the banquet only hours away. But his silence only spurred Nian Jin sui on.

"No guts? Then shut your mouth. You talk about others embarrassing themselves, but you should really take a good look in the mirror."

Nian Jin sui glanced at the staff.

"Is there another VIP suite here? I came to shop, not to watch a clown performance."

 The staff quickly nodded.

"Yes, Young Master Nian. There’s another suite next door. This way, please."

 "Let’s go, Cheng yu."

Nian Jin sui motioned to Qin Cheng yu and followed the staff,

but not before tossing one last jab over his shoulder.

"Oh, and make sure to air this room out later. We wouldn’t want the stench to linger."

Qin Cheng luo clenched his jaw in fury, stewing in the humiliation.

He silently cursed the day he ever allowed Qin Cheng yu to leave the Qin family and move in with Nian Jin sui.

Who could’ve predicted that the notoriously arrogant Nian Jin sui would suddenly turn protective?

His own schemes had backfired spectacularly.

"Cheng yu, do you see any suit you like?"

Nian Jin sui asked, flipping through the rack of suits.

Qin Cheng yu hesitated.

"But didn’t Chu He jun say the invitation only allows one person to enter?"

"He lied."

Nian Jin sui dismissed the concern with a wave, pulling out a black pinstripe suit.

"What about this one? I think it suits you best."

Trusting Nian Jin sui’s taste, Qin Cheng yu nodded.

"It looks great. Let’s go with it."

As Qin Cheng yu entered the dressing room,

Nian Jin sui checked the time and turned to the staff.

"If the suit needs adjustments, how long will it take?"

 The staff reassured him.

"No need to worry, Young Master Nian. With Second Young Master Qin’s build, it should fit perfectly."

 Nian Jin sui chuckled.

"His figure is indeed great—tall and upright. If only he weren’t so thin."

The casual compliment, coupled with the earlier remark about his physique needing training, lingered in Qin Cheng yu’s mind.

He resolved silently:

I’ll get stronger.
