He was cheerful, easygoing, and generous, with a casual demeanor and a kind
attitude toward those around him.
Slowly but surely, Chu He jun began to believe Ning Liang an’s words.
Nian Jin sui had changed for the better.
Spending time with him felt comfortable and relaxing, and Chu He jun began to
see Nian Jin sui as someone worth befriending.
So he decided to send some friendly signals first.
Meanwhile, Ye Kang’s eyes sparkled.
“Can I come too? I really want to go! Young Master Nian, please bring me
along, won’t you?”
This banquet wasn’t the usual frivolous gathering of playboys.
The people attending were those with real influence and resources in the
business world.
If Ye Kang could attend, it would definitely make others envious, and his
father might even look at him in a new light.
Plus, he might even make some valuable connections.
But Chu He jun had no interest in Ye Kang and only wanted to connect with Nian
Jin sui.
He flatly refused.
“No. This invitation is for one person only.”
Ye Kang immediately wilted, realizing there was nothing he could do.
Nian Jin sui, however, gave Chu He jun a suspicious look.
In the novel, Nian Jin sui had attended the banquet with Ye Kang.
Surely one invitation could admit two people, right?
Still, since he didn’t want to go with Ye Kang anyway and the system hadn’t
intervened,
Nian Jin sui decided to let it slide.
“Dress formally?”
Nian Jin sui pondered the mission’s phrasing.
“Xi Lü, what exactly does ‘formal’ mean in this context?”
**[Refer to the original novel’s description: Nian Jin sui has always enjoyed
making an impression in public.
Since Chu He ting was the main focus of this banquet, Nian Jin sui placed
extra importance on his appearance.
His goal was two-fold: to catch Chu He ting’s attention and to show everyone
they were the perfect match.
He began preparations days in advance, visiting beauty salons to ensure he’d
look his best.
He booked a stylist for the day of the event and commissioned a
custom-tailored suit to guarantee he would be the center of attention at the
banquet.]**
“Wow, that’s over the top! Beauty treatments too?”
Nian Jin sui groaned at the long list of preparations but then added
self-deprecatingly,
“With this face of mine, I could take the world by storm even if I looked
dishevelled. Is all this really necessary?”
Unfortunately, the system remained as indifferent as ever, replying
mechanically:
[The host must complete the mission as described.]
“Fine, fine, I’ll do it.”
Nian Jin sui sighed, pulling up his contacts to book appointments at his
regular beauty salon, styling studio, and tailor.
That week, Nian Jin sui went to the beauty salon every evening, leaving Qin
Chengyu to his own devices.
Normally, Qin Chengyu would complete both his and Nian Jin sui’s homework,
then play games with him for a while before finally having time for
himself.
But tonight, after finishing the homework and reading for a bit,
Qin Chengyu also reviewed the latest trends in the investment market.
When he glanced at the clock, he realized it was only 9 p.m.
The evening felt unusually long.
Rising from his chair, Qin Chengyu decided to take a shower.
By the time he finished, it was close to 10 p.m.,
but Nian Jin sui still hadn’t returned.
Although he had been busy all night, Qin Chengyu’s ears remained on high
alert,
listening for any sign of Nian Jin sui’s return.
He even left his door open and his windows ajar.
Leaning back in his chair, Qin Chengyu couldn’t help but picture Nian Jin sui
in his mind.
He had to admit: not accompanying Nian Jin sui tonight felt... unfamiliar.
Finally, the hum of an engine reached his ears.
Qin Chengyu got up and walked to the window, just in time to see Nian Jin sui
stepping out of the car downstairs.
Nian Jin sui no longer needed crutches but could only walk normally
running or jumping was still out of the question.
Qin Chengyu instinctively moved toward his door,
intending to go downstairs, but stopped short and changed his mind.
Instead, he closed the door and returned to his desk.
Soon, he heard footsteps approaching, followed by a knock on the door.
Qin Chengyu hesitated for a moment before saying,
“Come in.”
As expected, it was Nian Jin sui. He entered with a cheerful smile, clearly in
high spirits.
“Chengyu, are you busy?”
“I’m online.”
Without a second thought, Nian Jin sui leaned over to Qin Chengyu and
asked,
“Look at my face. Doesn’t my skin look smoother and more hydrated?”
Caught off guard by the sudden display of beauty, Qin Chengyu’s thoughts
momentarily scattered.
He quickly replied, “It seems so...”
“I think so too! I didn’t expect the treatment to work so well.”
Straightening up, Nian Jin sui’s voice brimmed with excitement.
After all, this was his first time getting a beauty treatment, so he found it
both novel and delightful.
“I’m going to take a shower now, so I won’t bother you anymore. Get some rest
early.”
With that, Nian Jin sui turned and left the room.
Qin Chengyu watched his retreating figure until the door closed behind him.
His gaze lingered for a long time.
He knew Nian Jin sui’s personality—carefree and lazy, always avoiding
unnecessary hassle.
Since moving into the Nian household, Nian Jin sui had never once gone to a
beauty salon.
But now, just for Chu He ting’s celebration banquet, he was willing to spend
several hours every evening on skincare, all while looking so pleased with
himself.
Did he like Chu He ting that much?
As soon as the question arose, Qin Chengyu scoffed at himself.
Qin Chengyu, have you forgotten?
This is the kind of love that made Nian Jin sui willing to give up his
life.
Qin Chengyu’s gaze darkened.
Of course, he hadn’t forgotten. He just couldn’t shake the heavy feeling in
his chest.
It was deeply unpleasant.
Qin Cheng luo had said one thing that was true:
Chu He ting didn’t deserve Nian Jin sui’s devotion.
The day of the banquet arrived.
Qin Chengyu sat on a sofa in the VIP room of the tailor shop,
waiting as Nian Jin sui tried on his outfit in the dressing room.
Hearing the door open, Qin Chengyu looked up,
and his gaze collided with the sight of Nian Jin sui in a silver-white
suit.
Qin Chengyu had never seen Nian Jin sui dressed so formally.
The tailored suit was a perfect fit, accentuating Nian Jin sui’s slender waist
and long legs.
He looked elegant, refined, and striking, the kind of presence that made it
impossible to look away.
A staff member stepped forward to adjust Nian Jin sui’s cuffs and collar,
showering him with compliments.
“Young Master Nian, wearing this, you’re guaranteed to turn heads everywhere.
But honestly, with your looks and figure, you’d look good in anything.”
Admiring himself in the mirror, Nian Jin sui seemed satisfied with his
appearance.
He turned to Qin Chengyu and asked,
“Chengyu, what do you think?”
Qin Chengyu quickly averted his gaze, trying to hide his momentary
awe. “You look great.”
