Madam Chu wasn’t fond of Ning Liang Ans humble background.
However, after spending time with him,
she discovered that he truly understood her artwork,
grasping the deeper meanings behind every piece.
Eventually, Madam Chu regarded Ning Liang An as her kindred spirit and no longer objected to his relationship with Chu He Ting.
Nian Jin Sui kept up his role and said,
“Thank you, Aunt Chu. I believe heaven rewards the persistent. I’ll wait for Brother Ting to change his mind.”
Madam Chu nodded in satisfaction.
Afraid she might not believe him, Nian Jin Sui deliberately put on a heartbroken yet hopeful expression.
“By the way, Aunt Chu, will Brother Ting be here today? It’s been so many days since I last saw him…”
“Chu He Ting just started working at the family business, so he’s been very busy. You must understand. But don’t worry, I’ll tell him to make time to take you out,”
Madam Chu reassured him.
Nian Jin Sui beamed with joy.
“That would be wonderful. Thank you, Aunt Chu!”
Seeing his delighted response, Madam Chu added,
“Since you like this painting, I’ll gift it to you as a token of my appreciation.”
“How could I accept such generosity? This is your gallery’s grand opening; I should be supporting you instead. May I ask how much this painting costs?”
Madam Chu smiled gracefully behind her ornate folding fan.
“Jin Sui, you’re so thoughtful. A hundred thousand will suffice as a gesture of support.”
Nian Jin Sui was stunned.
A hundred thousand? For this black, shiny painting?
“Which master created this piece?”
Madam Chu chuckled.
“It’s my own humble creation.”
Nian Jin Sui: …
Can I take back my offer?
Despite his reluctance, Nian Jin Sui forced a smile and paid for the painting.
As he and Qin Cheng Yu left the gallery,
they didn’t notice another elegant woman stepping out from behind a partition to greet Madam Chu.
“Madam Chu, congratulations on your gallery opening! I just toured the space, and as expected, your taste is impeccable. It’s a pity I’m not much into art; otherwise, I’d certainly buy a few pieces to enjoy at home.”
The newcomer was Qin Mu Yun, and her tone carried a subtle edge beneath her cordial words.
Madam Chu’s polite smile didn’t reach her eyes.
“Oh, what a rare honor, Miss Qin. Your presence alone graces this event. I wouldn’t dream of burdening you with purchases.”
The rivalry between the two women was palpable, their smiles weapons in a silent duel.
“By the way, Madam Chu, why isn’t Young Master Chu here today? It’s such an important occasion. These young ones just don’t understand proper decorum. Thankfully, my son, Cheng Lu, knows better. He’s even coming to pick me up later.”
Madam Chu bristled, catching the insinuation that her son was unfilial.
She quickly retorted,
“He Ting has graduated and started working at the family business. As the heir, he doesn’t have the luxury of leisure time to attend every event. I must say, I envy you, Miss Qin. With Mr. Qin still at the helm of your company, Cheng Lu can enjoy his free time. Unlike my He Ting, who’s busy every single day.”
The sharp dig caused Qin Mu Yun’s smile to falter,
but her salvation came in the form of her ringing phone—it was Qin Cheng Lu.
“Madam Chu, my son is here to pick me up. I’ll be taking my leave now.”
“Take care, Miss Qin. Do visit again soon.”
Madam Chu’s victorious smirk was impossible to miss.
Qin Mu Yun exited the gallery, her heels clicking furiously as her smile dropped.
She climbed into her son’s car with a scowl.
“Mom, what’s wrong? Who upset you?”
Qin Cheng Lu asked as he started the engine.
“That woman from the Chu family! She dared to mock you for being idle and uninvolved in the company!”
“So what? I’m the only Alpha grandson in the Qin family. The company is mine sooner or later,” Qin Cheng Lu replied confidently.
At the Nian Residence
The servants brought in the painting, and Butler Liu curiously examined its label.
“Darkness and Light? Young Master, is this the painting you just bought?”
“Darkness, sure. But where’s the light? Just because it reflects a bit doesn’t mean it deserves such a grand name. Honestly, it should be called Black Fertilizer Turns Gray!”
Nian Jin Sui grumbled.
He had dodged so many of Ye Kang’s schemes, yet he fell victim to Madam Chu’s sales pitch.
Butler Liu wisely refrained from commenting and instead asked,
“Where would you like to hang it, Young Master?”
“Hang it? So I can be greeted with pitch black every time I see it? No thanks!”
Nian Jin Sui’s frustration only grew, regretting his impulsive purchase.
