"Young Master Nian, are you okay? You look pale."
The familiar voice snapped Nian Jin Sui out of his thoughts.
When he looked up and saw Qin Cheng Yu’s face, his pupils slightly contracted.
What about me?
Would he also face a terrible end under the overwhelming power of the plot?
Would he die at Qin Cheng Yu's hands?
Nian Jin Sui suddenly felt suffocated.
He wanted to flee—from here, from the plot, from this world.
Panicked, he hurriedly maneuvered his wheelchair but accidentally hit a table,
his shin colliding painfully with a table leg.
"Don’t rush, Young Master Nian. I’ll help you,"
Qin Cheng Yu said calmly.
He quickly put down his tray and walked behind Nian Jin Sui,
pushing his wheelchair out of the cafeteria.
Under a secluded canopy of trees, Qin Cheng Yu handed him a cold can of soda.
Nian Jin Sui took a few sips, feeling his heart gradually calm down.
Although Qin Cheng Yu didn’t ask why he was acting so strangely,
his presence was comforting.
He simply sat quietly on a stone bench, letting the sound of the wind rustling the leaves fill the silence.
“Qin Cheng Yu, do you think people can change their fate?”
Nian Jin Sui finally asked, his voice tinged with helplessness.
Qin Cheng Yu turned to meet Nian Jin Sui’s lost, confused gaze.
“You’re wrong, Young Master Nian.”
Nian Jin Sui blinked, startled.
“Fate isn’t something that changes; it’s something you write yourself. You have to take the first step to leave a footprint. Fate isn’t the imagined road ahead—it’s the trail of footprints you leave behind.”
Nian Jin Sui stared at Qin Cheng Yu’s steady, water-like eyes, momentarily dazed.
He hadn’t expected such clarity from him.
So Qin Cheng Yu’s ending in the novel wasn’t dictated by the plot.
It was his own choices that led him down that path.
The realization hit Nian Jin Sui like a revelation.
He had been holding himself back too much.
Even without the system forcing his hand, he had built an invisible wall around himself.
What he needed to do wasn’t blindly follow the perceived plotline but test the system’s limits,
broaden his own path, and write his fate.
Feeling as though a weight had been lifted, Nian Jin Sui broke into a smile.
“Qin Cheng Yu, let’s go.”
“Go eat?”
“Yes! Let’s eat with Ning Liang An!”
“Ning Liang An, it’s Nian Jin Sui. Where are you?”
On the other end of the line, Ning Liang An sounded surprised.
“Young Master Nian, I’m at a classmate’s dorm. How do you have my number?”
“I’m Nian Jin Sui. What’s so hard about getting your number?”
“What can I do for you, Young Master Nian?”
“Come have a meal with me. Meet me at the restaurant by the campus gate. My treat!”
Nian Jin Sui said enthusiastically.
“Thank you, Young Master Nian, but I’ve already eaten.”
After being doused with food in the cafeteria earlier,
Ning Liang An had gone to a classmate’s dorm to clean up.
Though he hadn’t eaten much, he technically had eaten.
“Even if you’ve eaten, you still have to come. Consider it keeping me company,”
Nian Jin Sui insisted.
Reluctant to refuse, Ning Liang An agreed.
When Ning Liang An arrived at the restaurant, he saw Nian Jin Sui waving him over.
“Come sit down. Finally, you’re here. I was starving!”
Nian Jin Sui called out, signaling the waiter to serve the food.
Dish after dish filled the table.
Nian Jin Sui and Qin Cheng Yu started eating, but Ning Liang An remained motionless.
“What are you waiting for? Start eating,”
Nian Jin Sui urged.
“I’ve already eaten, Young Master Nian. I’ll just watch you two,”
Ning Liang An replied politely.
“Come on, you can’t be full after what happened earlier,”
Nian Jin Sui retorted, piling food into Ning Liang An’s bowl.
Qin Cheng Yu stayed silent, though a faint chill flickered in his gaze.
“Did you see what happened earlier?”
Ning Liang An asked, embarrassed.
Nian Jin Sui had decided not to take the blame anymore.
“Ning Liang An, you might not believe this, but I want you to know—I didn’t tell Ye Kang to do that.”
“I believe you,”
Ning Liang An replied quickly.
“I know it had nothing to do with you.”
Nian Jin Sui was surprised by Ning Liang Ans unwavering trust.
“How do you know it wasn’t me? Everyone else thinks I’m behind it,”
Nian Jin Sui pressed.
Ning Liang An smiled warmly, his sincerity evident.
“I can’t explain it, but I just know. I can feel that you’re a good person.”
Nian Jin Sui was at a loss for words.
Was Ning Liang An naive, or just incredibly perceptive?
Regardless, he felt relieved that Ning Liang An didn’t misunderstand him.
“In that case, stop being so formal. Treat me as a friend. Now eat.”
“Then I won’t hold back. Thank you, Young Master Nian!”
“From now on, let’s eat together at school too.”
Nian Jin Sui wanted everyone to see their good relationship and
think twice before bullying Ning Liang An.
While Nian Jin Sui and Ning Liang An chatted happily,
Qin Cheng Yu clenched his chopsticks tightly, his lowered gaze hiding a storm of emotions.
A friend? Nian Jin Sui has never said that to me.
Nian Jin Sui had paid for Ye Kang’s expenses in the past but now bought Qin Cheng Yu clothes and shoes.
Nian Jin Sui had served him food, but now he was doing the same for Ning Liang An.
Did this mean he could become the next Ye Kang?
Qin Cheng Yu’s eyes darkened.
He could accept being disliked from the start, but he would never accept being abandoned.
At the Chu family mansion:
“What are you looking at so intently? Are you even listening to me?”
Chu He Jun leaned in to peek at Chu He Ting’s phone screen.
“Hey, who’s that? They’re getting bullied so badly.”
Chu He Ting was watching a video of Ning Liang An being doused with food in the cafeteria.
He slowly looked up, anger burning in his eyes.
“That’s the person I like.”
Chu He Jun’s eyes lit up with excitement,
and he bombarded Chu He Ting with questions.
“You like someone?”
“Who are they? ”
“What family are they from?”
“Does Nian Jin Sui know?”
“Did he lose it?”
Chu He Ting gave Chu He Jun a pointed look.
“If you’re so curious, why don’t you find out for yourself? Didn’t you say you were bored after coming back to the country? Why not enroll at Imperial Capital Business Academy?”
