The room Qin Chengyu moved into was even more spacious and bright than his previous guest room.
Watching Qin Chengyu stick the "Storage Room" doorplate onto the door, Nian Jinsui finally felt a sense of relief. He wondered if Xilu would consider the mission completed.
Even if Xilu deemed the completion insufficient and decided to punish him, Nian Jinsui would accept it.
No matter what, he couldn’t bring himself to make Qin Chengyu live in the actual storage room.
After attaching the "Cleaning Room" plate to the original storage room, Nian Jinsui contentedly went downstairs with Qin Chengyu.
Nian Yixin had returned home and immediately asked,
“Jinsui, I heard from Old Liu that you had Chengyu move to the third floor?”
“Yes, Dad, Qin Chengyu will be living in the storage room on the third floor from now on.”
Nian Jinsui even reminded the butler,
“Uncle Liu, make sure everyone knows this. Pay attention to the doorplates to avoid confusion.”
Though puzzled, Butler Liu nodded in agreement.
Nian Yixin, accustomed to Nian Jinsui’s whims and peculiarities, found this odd arrangement unsurprising and didn’t probe further.
Instead, he changed the topic:
“Jinsui, I’m planning to fly to M Country the morning after tomorrow. You and Chengyu will start school soon, so I feel at ease leaving to visit your father.”
Nian Yixin had been worried that Nian Jinsui might do something foolish again.
Seeing his son in good spirits over the past two days reassured him, allowing him to proceed with his plans to visit M Country.
Knowing how close Nian Yixin and Lin Shuquan were, Nian Jinsui understood his father’s longing.
However, having spent several days with Nian Yixin, he couldn’t help but feel a hint of reluctance to part with the rare affection of a parent.
“Sure, I know your wedding anniversary is next week. Don’t worry about me, Dad. Go enjoy your time with Father,”
Nian Jinsui said, feigning nonchalance.
Noticing Nian Jinsui’s subtle emotions, Nian Yixin hesitated.
His son’s dependency on him was rare—his usual memories of Nian Jinsui were filled with defiance, irritability, and resistance.
Now, this faint attachment made Nian Yixin consider postponing his trip.
“Maybe I’ll stay a few more days. Your father has waited this long; a few more days won’t hurt.”
Nian Jinsui laughed.
“No way! I’m a considerate child—I won’t be a stumbling block to your love story!”
Amused, Nian Yixin called for dinner and dropped the idea of delaying his trip.
As Nian Jinsui reflected on their bond, he felt a wave of bittersweet emotions.
An orphan who had lost his parents and a father who had struggled with a difficult son—they were healing each other in their own way.
After dinner, Nian Jinsui returned to his room to bathe, while Nian Yixin held Qin Chengyu back for a private conversation.
“Chengyu, you’re welcome to stay at the Nian family home. I’ll be away for a while, so I hope you can look after Jinsui for me. I can see you’re a good kid.”
Initially, Qin Chengyu was merely a favor in Nian Yixin’s eyes.
Since Qin Zhuo had asked, and it was a small matter of providing food and shelter,
Nian Yixin had agreed—especially since the Qin family had even prepaid a year’s living expenses.
However, after spending some time with him and seeing how Qin Chengyu and Nian Jinsui got along and recalling how Qin Chengyu had saved Nian Jinsui
Nian Yixin felt a twinge of sympathy for the young man.
Patting Qin Chengyu on the shoulder, Nian Yixin reassured him,
“I know you’ve had a hard time in the Qin family. Rest assured, as long as you’re here, I won’t treat you unfairly. Once you graduate, you can work for the Nian family if you’d like. If you prefer not to stay in the country, we also have businesses abroad. Of course, if you have other plans, I’ll fully support you.”
This was Nian Yixin’s way of repaying Qin Chengyu for saving Nian Jinsui.
“Thank you, Uncle Nian,”
Qin Chengyu said, grateful for the rare gesture of kindness.
Meanwhile, Nian Jinsui was soaking in his luxurious bathtub.
With one foot propped on the edge and the rest of his body submerged, he nervously asked the system,
“Xilu, does this count as completing the mission?”
[After evaluation, although the host displayed signs of opportunism, the mission is considered complete based on the outcome]
Hearing this, Nian Jinsui breathed a sigh of relief.
Testing the system’s limits had paid off.
Since the evaluations seemed lenient, he felt more confident about surviving future tasks.
Relaxed, he began examining the assortment of bath products surrounding him.
“What’s this? A scrub? What do you even scrub with this?”
“Milk? Honey? Are these for drinking or bathing?”
“This essential oil smells nice. Let’s try adding some.”
“Ooh, flower petals? Wow, the original Nian Jinsui really knew how to enjoy life. Guess I’ll indulge too.”
Muttering to himself, Nian Jinsui began mixing various products into the tub until the water turned a soft pink.
“Not bad—this actually feels romantic.”
The warm bath, combined with the pleasant aroma, left Nian Jinsui completely at ease.
His body relaxed, and even his mind felt at peace.
“This is the life…”
he sighed contentedly. But his comfort was short-lived.
Suddenly, he noticed his body becoming weaker.
His limbs felt limp, and he could barely move.
It hit him—the “soft and delicate” punishment was back!
Why now of all times?!
Cursing under his breath, Nian Jinsui realized he couldn’t stay upright in the tub.
His body was slipping further into the water.
Was this fate?
He had jumped into water trying to die but survived, and now, when he wasn’t suicidal, was he really about to drown in a bathtub?
Desperately, Nian Jinsui struggled to pull himself up, but with one injured leg and no strength, he could only manage to sit upright briefly before sliding back down again.
Exhausted, he suddenly remembered something.
Qin Chengyu is on this floor!
If he yelled loudly enough, Qin Chengyu should hear him.
Summoning all his strength, Nian Jinsui shouted,
“Qin Chengyu!”
