SDS: Chapter 70

"The Capital's Top Beauty" Qin Corporation. "Mr. William, haven't you already met with President Qin? Is there something else you need here?" Tang Keyi maintained his last shred of patience as he faced William, who was scrutinizing  him without restraint. Tang Keyi thought to himself,  Could it be that he can't bear to part with Qin Zhiyan and wants to wait outside just to catch a few more glances of him? William withdrew his scrutinizing gaze, thinking that this little assistant was indeed good-looking.  He probably won Qin Zhiyan over with this face. Instead of answering,  William picked up the nameplate on the desk, glanced at it, and said "Tang Keyi? Your name is quite cute." Tang Keyi sneered inwardly.  Your intentions have been exposed by me. Don't even think about trying to cozy up to me. "Thank you so much for the compliment, Mr. William." Feeling Tang Keyi's obvious hostility, William simply assumed he was upset on Q...

Su Yu wanted to resolve, but he didn't have the time.

Ji Yanli had informed him that he needed to accompany her to a banquet that evening.

Mia, seeing Su Yu drowsy at his workstation, approached him in her high heels and nudged his arm.

"Su Yu, you can't sleep during work hours."

Having eaten a bit too much at lunch, Su Yu, feeling slightly dizzy, forced his eyes open.

Seeing Mia, he said weakly,

"Mia, I didn't sleep. I'm a little dizzy. I'll lie down for a bit."

Seeing his listless state, Mia frowned.

"Can you even go to the banquet tonight like this? If you can't, I can arrange for someone else."

She was very meticulous about her work, and Su Yu was both amused and exasperated.

"Is work all you do in your life? Shouldn't you be concerned about me first in this situation?"

"Concern for work gets you a salary, what do I have to worry about you for?"

Her words were sharp, leaving Su Yu speechless for a moment.

"Yes, I'm just sleepy from eating. I'll definitely fulfill my duties as assistant tonight."

Hearing this, Mia's brow relaxed a little, and she handed him a mint.

"You can eat this if you're sleepy. Tonight's banquet is an auction, which is quite important. Keep an eye on the people around President Ji."

"Okay, okay."

After giving her instructions for ten minutes, Mia left with peace of mind.

Su Yu had vaguely heard about this auction.

It was hosted by the Yang family, the fat old shareholder of Ji Yanli, and it was said to have various famous paintings and jewelry, extremely precious and gorgeous.

But he wasn't very interested, although his father, Su Zhaofeng, might be.

"What are you thinking about?"

Ji Yanli had walked up to him at some point.

Seeing him lost in thought, he reached out and touched the soft flesh of his cheek.

The light tickle made Su Yu reach out and brush the skin on his face where he had just been touched.

He looked up and saw that the man was already dressed and standing in front of him.

Ji Yanli didn't seem to take this banquet very seriously.

He was simply wearing a suit, and the tie around his neck was not a bright color.

It was as dark as the dark gray suit, showing a bit of composure.

"Time to go?"

Su Yu slowly got up.

He didn't plan to change his clothes; a plain white shirt would be fine.

Ji Yanli adjusted his cuffs, and as he lowered his hand, Su Yu noticed the string of beads hidden inside his sleeve.

"It's about time to leave."

"You're driving today, I'm a little sleepy, I'll take a nap."

Su Yu didn't stand on ceremony, and Ji Yanli readily agreed without complaint.

The music in the car was soothing, and the driving was steady, with little swaying.

Leaning back in his seat, Su Yu unconsciously dozed off.

He was awakened by an itching sensation on his face.

His eyelashes fluttered as he opened his eyes, and what he saw was a hand pulling away from his cheek.

Ji Yanli hadn't expected him to wake up so quickly.

"Want to sleep a little longer?"

Su Yu frowned, took a deep breath, and glanced out the window.

It was already late outside, and the sky was gloomy.

He spoke, his voice a little hoarse.

"Has the banquet started?"

Ji Yanli responded, and Su Yu said discontentedly,

"Why didn't you call me?"

"My wife is tired, she can sleep a little longer. The auction isn't important."

The concern in his words gave Su Yu goosebumps.

He glanced lightly at the serious-looking man,

"Come on, get off the car."

The ticket checker couldn't help but glance at the two extraordinary-looking men walking towards him.

He straightened his expression and solemnly extended his hand to the two.

"Hello sir, do you have an invitation?"

This auction was more formal than usual, and only invited prominent families could attend.

The Yang family had gone to great lengths to promote this auction.

"Yes, thank you."

Su Yu handed over the invitation.

The man glanced at it casually, stamped it, and handed the two men two bracelets engraved with their unique numbers.

Looking at the gleaming gold lettering on his wrist: 250*,

Su Yu's lips twitched.

Ji Yanli was about to casually toss the bracelet into his pocket when Su Yu reached out and stopped him.

Upon closer inspection, the number on the bracelet was extremely auspicious: 888*.

Why?

Was this some kind of targeting?

"I'll trade with you."

Su Yu casually slipped Ji Yanli's bracelet onto his own wrist, tossing the glaringly cheap 250 into his pocket.

Ji Yanli witnessed everything, merely raising an eyebrow.

Inside, there were dedicated staff; elegant women in cheongsams greeted them from the doorway, their hair styled in buns, their smiles perfectly appropriate.

"Gentlemen, this way please."

Chairman Yang had already made arrangements, instructing someone to lead Ji Yanli to the back row of the auction hall.

A wide view, a complete overview.

Su Yu rarely accompanied his father, Su Zhaofeng, to such events.

Usually, Su Yan accompanied him.

He casually glanced around the hall, each seat had prepared snacks and liquor.

Many people were already seated, and in that one glance, he saw a familiar back of a head.

His father, Su Zhaofeng, sat in the middle row, next to a gentle young man—it was Su Yan, whom he hadn't seen in a long time.

Su Yu paused briefly before looking away, sitting down next to Ji Yanli and casually tossing his number tag onto the table.

Ji Yanli naturally pocketed his tag as well.

"How long will it take?"

Ji Yanli lifted his eyelids and leaned close to Su Yu's ear.

"Tired?"

Su Yu shifted uncomfortably at the warmth of the breath.

"A little."

"Later."

After saying this, Ji Yanli turned straight ahead, seemingly unintentionally adding,

"There's something I really want."

It was rare for Ji Yanli to mention something he particularly wanted, so Su Yu's curiosity was piqued, and he moved closer to him.

"What good thing?"

The man kept his lips closed, then opened them slightly after a few minutes, as if about to say something.

At this moment, someone was led over, interrupting their conversation.

The man, wearing a blue suit, showed a hint of surprise upon seeing Su Yu.

"Su Yu!"

Hearing his name called, Su Yu looked over.

The man before him was none other than the son of Chairman Yang, whom he had seen at Ji Yanli's house a while ago, sitting cross-legged playing games.

Seeing that the person wasn't speaking but just staring at him, he took the initiative to sit down next to them, introducing himself with a smile.

"I'm Yang Fanchi, do you remember me?"

Yang Fanchi smiled smugly, extending a hand but not feeling embarrassed when the person didn't shake it, and naturally withdrew it.

Su Yu smiled and nodded.

"I remember."

After all, they were similar people, so he still had some impression of him.

Yang Fanchi smiled even more happily, turning to look at Ji Yanli beside him and casually greeting him.

"President Ji."

Ji Yanli didn't respond, his gaze falling on the elbow he was using to support himself in front of Su Yu.

His brows furrowed, and a chill began to emanate from him.

Sensing the coldness beside him, Su Yu turned his head and almost jumped in fright at the dark eyes.

He turned back and mouthed, "What's wrong?"

Ji Yanli didn't speak, but simply sat up straight.

Yang Fanchi was also somewhat confused, reacting slowly to this inexplicable hostility.

He patted Su Yu, and when Su Yu looked at him, he whispered in his ear,

"What's wrong with Mr. Ji?"

Su Yu shrugged.

He didn't know; the little dog had gone mad again.

  • 250 (二百五, èr bǎi wǔ) = dimwit
origin: The Ancient Coin Theory (Most Common): In the Warring States period, the currency unit was called a "吊" (diào). One "吊" was worth 1000 copper coins. Therefore, 500 coins were a "half-diao" (半吊子, bàn diào zi), which itself became slang for someone who is unreliable or not all there. By extension, 250 coins (a quarter-diao) became an even stronger insult for someone even more foolish.
  • 888 (八八八, bā bā bā) = good fortune
sounds like 发 (fā), which is part of the phrase 发财 (fācái), meaning "to become wealthy" or "to make a fortune.". saying it's 3 times symbolizing triple prosperity, abundant wealth, and continuous good luck.
