Chapter 108: Is This a Reunion or a Trap?

What could he say in response to that?

Nian Jin Sui stammered, unable to form coherent words. Finally, he chose to avoid the main issue and replied vaguely,

“If Brother Ting, you’re willing to accept my feelings, I could break off the engagement immediately!”

Anyway, Chu Heting would never look at him like that, so there was no harm in saying this.

As Nian Jin Sui quietly congratulated himself on his cleverness, he failed to notice that Chu Heting's gaze wasn’t on him but was instead directed at something just behind him.

"What? Can't stand to listen?" Chu Heting's voice rang out, tinged with amusement.

“Huh?” Nian Jin Sui didn’t understand at first, but as he looked up, he finally realized that Chu Heting wasn’t looking at him but was instead smiling slightly, staring at something behind him.

Suddenly, Nian Jin Sui froze, about to turn his head when he felt a sharp pain at the back of his neck. His vision went black, and he lost consciousness.

Seeing this, Chu Heting frowned slightly. "Qin Chengyu, what did you knock him out for?"

Qin Chengyu caught the unconscious Nian Jin Sui in his arms steadily. He hadn’t seen him for over a month and hadn’t expected that the reunion would happen like this.

A reunion? Or was it a confrontation?

In the past month, Nian Jin Sui had lost weight and felt lighter in his arms. Could it be that Nian Jin Sui had also been thinking of him?

That thought crossed Qin Chengyu’s mind, but he immediately pushed it aside. How could it be?

Nian Jin Sui had just said with his own mouth that his heart only belonged to Chu Heting…

Qin Chengyu wasn’t willing to hear any more painful words from Nian Jin Sui. He had witnessed Nian Jin Sui’s obsession with Chu Heting before, but hearing it from his mouth again made his heart ache.

He was human, and his heart could hurt too…

Moreover, he didn’t want to lay his relationship with Nian Jin Sui bare in front of his rival, Chu Heting.

Qin Chengyu and Nian Jin Sui’s relationship was something that only the two of them should fully understand.

As he held Nian Jin Sui in his arms, the subtle scent of pheromones filled his nose, momentarily distracting him. It made his throat tighten. This was the scent of Nian Jin Sui’s Omega pheromones.

It was a scent that hit him deep in his soul, easily stirring his most primal urges.

This was the first time he had smelled Nian Jin Sui’s pheromones. He had imagined this moment a thousand times—fantasized about it—but he never expected that when it finally happened, it would be under these circumstances, while Nian Jin Sui was trying to seduce Chu Heting.

It was both ironic and laughable…

Qin Chengyu’s gaze darkened as he glanced down, noticing the dried tears still at the corners of Nian Jin Sui’s eyes. His already stormy expression grew even darker, filled with more than just anger.

Nian Jin Sui had actually cried for Chu Heting…

He chuckled bitterly.

Qin Chengyu felt like a fool for believing that Nian Jin Sui might actually want to marry him, or at least harbor some affection for him. But Nian Jin Sui’s words just now shattered that illusion completely.

Nian Jin Sui had said it clearly—his heart only belonged to Chu Heting. He was willing to break off the engagement with Qin Chengyu for Chu Heting.

Then what about him?

What did he mean to Nian Jin Sui?

Perhaps nothing at all…

Chu Heting, noticing Qin Chengyu’s silence, could probably guess what he was feeling. He spoke up, trying to offer a suggestion. “Qin Chengyu, since Nian Jin Sui doesn’t like you, then there’s no need to force this union. Forcing things will never lead to happiness.”

In an instant, Qin Chengyu’s expression shifted, his face hardening like a beast whose territory had been encroached upon. His hand tightened around Nian Jin Sui’s waist, clearly staking his claim.

His sharp gaze swept toward Chu Heting. “Mr. Chu, you deliberately made sure I overheard your conversation with Nian Jin Sui. Isn’t it because you don’t want the Qin and Nian families to marry?”

The mention of the families turned the discussion into a matter of business.

Chu Heting’s expression became unreadable as he switched his tone. “I did realize that you were eavesdropping, Mr. Qin, but that doesn’t mean I intended for you to hear it.”

This marked the first time that Chu Heting and Qin Chengyu met as representatives of their families, no longer addressing each other as “young master.”

Although Chu Heting denied it, Qin Chengyu knew better.

The Qin and Chu families had been rivals for years. The first one to align with the Nian family—who had remained neutral—would instantly gain a huge advantage.

Now that Ning Liang’an was the young master of the Nian family and had a relationship with Chu Heting, if they married, the interests of the Chu and Nian families would be forever tied together.

However, if Nian Jin Sui married Qin Chengyu, the Nian family would naturally have to remain neutral between the two families, maintaining the delicate balance of power.

Chu Heting certainly didn’t want the marriage between the Qin and Nian families to happen.

The standoff between Chu Heting and Qin Chengyu was intense, their gazes locking like clashing blades, neither side willing to give in.

At that moment, the sound of voices from outside the room shattered the tension.

“That smell is so strong. It must be some Omega in heat. If I get my hands on him, I won’t hold back.”

“I smell it too. Seems like it’s coming from this room. Looks like we’ve got a bit of luck today—let’s go in and check.”

Upon hearing this, Qin Chengyu frowned, immediately realizing that Nian Jin Sui couldn’t stay here any longer. Without a word to Chu Heting, he scooped Nian Jin Sui up in his arms and headed for the door, bypassing the two lecherous Alphas standing outside.

The two men, clearly from influential families themselves, immediately noticed the unconscious Nian Jin Sui in Qin Chengyu’s arms. But with Nian Jin Sui’s face buried against Qin Chengyu’s chest, they didn’t recognize him at first.

While Qin Chengyu had always been somewhat of an unknown figure, now that he was the head of the Qin family, most people in the capital still didn’t know him well.

They assumed Qin Chengyu was just like them—someone who had come to pick up the Omega scent, hoping to claim the spoils.

“Hey, buddy, we all deserve a share. You can’t just take that Omega for yourself,” one of the men said, stepping forward to block Qin Chengyu’s path.

Qin Chengyu’s eyes turned cold and sharp, his gaze like a blade as he looked them over. He chuckled darkly.

“You think you’re worthy?”

The man was immediately enraged, about to retort, but then he suddenly felt a powerful Alpha presence overwhelm him, filling him with fear and making him hesitate to even breathe.

These two men, ordinary Alphas, were completely suppressed by Qin Chengyu’s aura and had no chance to resist. They quickly stepped aside, allowing Qin Chengyu to pass.

“We’re not worthy, we’re not worthy! Please, sir, you go ahead!” they stammered, quickly clearing the way.

Qin Chengyu didn’t waste any time. He lifted Nian Jin Sui in his arms and walked straight out.

“Why do I keep thinking this guy looks familiar?”

one of the men muttered as he slowly pieced it together.

“Wait a minute… I think I know him. He’s Qin Chengyu, right?”

“You mean the new president of the Qin Corporation? You should’ve said something earlier. But I heard Qin Chengyu is a Beta, are you sure you’re not mistaken?”

“I just recognized him. I’ve seen his picture before, and I’m sure it’s him. That Alpha presence he’s emitting is way too strong. There’s no way he’s a Beta. I think he’s gone through secondary differentiation… This is huge!”
