Chapter 96 Are You Secretly Crying?

Dreams have to end eventually.

Qin Chengyu didn’t look back as he strode out of the Nian household.

From the third-floor balcony, Nian Jinsui watched until Qin Chengyu’s figure disappeared into the distance.

Only then did he withdraw his gaze, his heart heavy with emotions he couldn’t articulate.

He turned and walked to Qin Chengyu’s room, the 'storage room' that had been arranged for him.

The room was immaculate, almost as though no one had lived there.

Apart from the missing laptop and a few books, nothing seemed out of place.

Nian Jinsui opened the wardrobe.

As expected, the clothes he had bought for Qin Chengyu were all still there,

along with the watches on the shelf—untouched, just like they had been.

It was clear now. He had truly hurt Qin Chengyu deeply this time.

The Nian family’s car pulled into the Qin family’s courtyard, but the gates remained tightly shut.

The entrance was eerily quiet, with no one to welcome them.

“By all accounts, the Qin family should have received the news. Why is no one here to greet him?”

Uncle Liu muttered as he stepped out of the car.

“Uncle Liu, it’s fine. I’ll go in myself,”

Qin Chengyu said indifferently.

He wasn’t surprised.

This was the treatment he had always received at the Qin family, and he had long grown used to it.

Uncle Liu, however, wasn’t having it.

Blocking Qin Chengyu’s way, he said firmly,

“Young Master Qin, wait here. I’ll have someone knock.”

One of the Nian family’s servants hurried forward at Uncle Liu’s signal and knocked on the door.

Shortly after, a Qin family servant appeared.

The servant recognized Qin Chengyu but only spared him a disdainful glance before addressing

Uncle Liu.

“Who knocked on the door?”

Uncle Liu’s face darkened.

“I did. Don’t you know that your Second Young Master has returned? Why is no one here to receive him?”

The servant, assuming

Uncle Liu was just a driver, responded dismissively,

“If he’s back, he can come in himself. Why would anyone need to fetch him?”

Uncle Liu bristled.

“Where is your Housekeeper Wu? Get him out here now.”

The servant hesitated.

“Why do you need to see our housekeeper?”

“I’m the Nian family’s housekeeper. I have matters to discuss with him. Or do you need me to explain myself to you?”

The servant’s face paled.

In families like the Qin and Nian, the housekeepers held significant influence.

Offending one could easily cost someone their job.

Nervously, the servant replied,

“Please wait. I’ll get him immediately.”

As the servant scurried away, Uncle Liu huffed.

“These bootlickers… Today, I’ll show them what’s what.”

“Uncle Liu, thank you. But it really wasn’t necessary,”

Qin Chengyu said calmly.

“It is necessary, Young Master Qin. If you let people like this get away with their behavior, they’ll just take advantage of you.”

Having spent so much time with Qin Chengyu,

Uncle Liu had grown fond of him and couldn’t help but feel protective.

Moments later, Housekeeper Wu emerged with several servants in tow.

He greeted Uncle Liu warmly.

“Ah, Housekeeper Liu! It’s been a long time. My apologies for the lack of hospitality; the Qin family’s elders aren’t home today. Why don’t you come in for some tea?”

Uncle Liu noted that Wu hadn’t even acknowledged Qin Chengyu’s presence.

With a sigh of frustration, he replied curtly,

“No need. I’m just here to drop off the Second Young Master. Didn’t you receive the message? I didn’t expect such a prominent family as the Qins to lack basic courtesy. Or is it that you look down on the Nian family?”

“Housekeeper Liu, please don’t misunderstand,”

Wu replied smoothly.

“We did receive the message, but things were rushed, and we weren’t fully prepared. I’ll make sure to discipline the staff for this oversight.”

Uncle Liu, though still displeased, decided to let it go.

“Fine. Then tell them to stop standing around and help the Second Young Master with his luggage.”

The Qin family’s servants finally moved to carry Qin Chengyu’s luggage inside.

“Young Master Qin, we’ll take our leave now. Be sure to visit the Nian family when you have time. Both the master and Young Master Nian will be delighted to see you.”

Uncle Liu’s voice was deliberately loud, ensuring everyone knew of the close bond between Qin Chengyu and the Nian family.

Before leaving, he even gave Qin Chengyu a slight bow, showing him full respect.

After Uncle Liu and the others left, Qin Chengyu returned to his room.

As he approached, he overheard the servants inside speaking.

“What did he bring back that’s so heavy?”

“Typical. People like him always bring useless things. He got sent back here—I doubt he has any real ties with the Nian family.”

“Even if he does, what difference does it make? The eldest young master will inherit the Qin family. Do you think the second young master has any future here?”

“With the eldest young master’s temper, life’s only going to get harder for him.”

Qin Chengyu remained silent, his expression unreadable as he entered the room.

The servants froze upon seeing him, exchanged nervous glances, and quickly left.

Looking around, Qin Chengyu noted the thin layer of dust coating the furniture.

Clearly, no one had cleaned the room since his departure nearly a year ago.

Opening his suitcase, he pulled out a pair of dumbbells—the reason his luggage had been so heavy.

Setting the dumbbells aside, he gazed at them for a moment.

They were a birthday gift from Nian Jinsui.

“Birthday gift…”

Qin Chengyu murmured.

Next month would be Nian Jinsui’s birthday.

He had been pondering what to give him, but now…

there was no need to think about it anymore.

With a bitter smile, he turned away and started unpacking.
