Chapter 48 If Only He Were an Alpha

Nian Jinsui's rational mind told him that his request was unreasonable and impolite.

But at this moment, he couldn't think about that.

He only felt like a fish washed ashore, desperately yearning to be embraced and soothed by the sea.

Qin Chengyu’s pupils contracted slightly before he softly uttered,

"Okay."

Nian Jinsui’s request caught him off guard, but he felt no repulsion

on the contrary, there was a strange, indescribable... joy.

But was this joy because he was needed by Nian Jinsui?

Or was it the physical contact that brought him this pleasure?

Qin Chengyu couldn’t discern the answer.

He gently pulled Nian Jin sui into his arms.

Although he had held Nian Jin sui many times before, this was the first time it truly felt like an embrace.

Nian Jinsui pressed his face against Qin Chengyu’s chest.

The sensation of being held and the clean scent emanating from Qin Chengyu eased the discomfort in his body.

"Qin Chengyu, can you hold me tighter?"

Nian Jinsui asked softly, his voice gentle and pleading.

"Okay,"

Qin Chengyu replied, his voice slightly hoarse.

For a long time, Qin Chengyu held Nian Jinsui, not loosening his arms until he felt Nian Jinsui's breathing grow steady and even.

"Young Master?"

Qin Chengyu called softly, but there was no response.

Nian Jinsui had fallen asleep.

Even so, Qin Chengyu didn’t let go.

He lowered his head and took a subtle sniff at Nian Jinsui’s neck.

Unfortunately, all he could smell was the faint scent of body wash.

What does Nian Jinsui’s pheromone smell like?

The question suddenly emerged in Qin Chengyu’s mind.

Thinking about how so many people could smell Nian Jinsui’s pheromones while he could not, his gaze darkened, and a surge of frustration rose within him.

For years, Qin Chengyu had been content with his Beta identity, appreciating the freedom from being influenced by pheromones.

Even when he knew Qin Zhuo valued Alpha bloodlines, he never wished to be an Alpha.

But now, that thought grew stronger in his heart.

If only I were an Alpha.

When Nian Jinsui woke up, he found himself lying on the large bed in his room.

Qin Chengyu was sitting by the bedside. The moment Nian Jinsui stirred, Qin Chengyu noticed.

"Young Master, are you feeling better now?"

"I’m fine now."

Nian Jinsui stretched lazily, realizing his body felt normal again.

Feeling re-energized, he sat up.

"But I’m a bit hungry. How long did I sleep?"

Seeing Nian Jinsui’s energetic demeanor, Qin Chengyu finally relaxed.

"It’s almost 10 PM now. Dinner has been kept warm and is ready to eat whenever you’re ready."

Turning his head, Nian Jinsui noticed that Qin Chengyu was still wearing the same stained, soup-covered clothes.

He exclaimed in surprise,

"Qin Chengyu, don’t tell me you haven’t eaten or even showered since we got back, and you’ve just been waiting for me?"

Qin Chengyu didn’t answer.

Although Butler Liu had assured him that after taking the suppressant, Nian Jinsui would be fine after a good rest,

Qin Chengyu wasn’t familiar with suppressants and was worried about unexpected complications.

Besides, he’d seen how uncomfortable Nian Jinsui was earlier in the car and feared he might wake up unwell. More importantly, Nian Jinsui still had difficulty moving.

Ultimately, Qin Chengyu simply couldn’t rest easy.

Understanding that Qin Chengyu’s actions stemmed from concern, Nian Jinsui didn’t press further.

As he got out of bed, he noticed the crutches placed by the bedside and asked,

"How did my crutches get back here?"

"The people at the club returned them,"

Qin Chengyu replied.

Nian Jinsui nodded and then asked another question.

"By the way, why did you suddenly start calling me 'Young Master'? It feels a bit strange."

"What would you prefer I call you?"

Nian Jinsui thought for a moment.

He had known Qin Chengyu for over a month now, and they had grown familiar.

Continuing to address each other formally or by their full names felt unnecessarily distant.

Moreover, after witnessing Qin Chengyu resolutely stand by him today,

even in the face of the tremendous temptation of becoming the rightful second young master of the Qin family,

Nian Jinsui couldn’t deny feeling touched.

It seemed that the uncorrupted, non-antagonistic Qin Chengyu still had a good heart.

"Let’s just call each other by our names from now on. What do you think, Chengyu?"

"Okay,"

Qin Chengyu replied, his gaze brightening slightly,

a subtle smile flickering across his lips as he softly called,

"Jinsui."

"Hmm!"

Nian Jinsui responded enthusiastically.

"Now let’s each take a shower, and then we’ll go down for dinner together."

Qin Chengyu hesitated briefly.

"I can wait here. If you need anything while showering, you can call for me anytime."

Nian Jinsui burst out laughing.

"What could I possibly need while showering? Besides, there’s already a call bell installed in the bathroom. If I need help, I’ll call the servants. You go ahead and shower without worrying."

Since the last time Nian Jinsui had been unexpectedly incapacitated in the bathroom,

he had immediately had a call bell installed next to the bathtub to avoid similar incidents.

Qin Chengyu remained silent for a moment, his lips parting slightly as if to say something more.

But Nian Jinsui cut him off decisively.

"Enough talking! Go back to your room and shower now! If you delay any longer, I’ll starve to death!"

Reluctantly, Qin Chengyu left the room, glancing back three times as he walked away.

Watching him, Nian Jinsui sighed in amusement and puzzlement.

"What’s with Qin Chengyu today? Why is he acting so hesitant?"

Back in his room, Qin Chengyu opened the window to ensure he could hear Nian Jinsui if he called, then went into the bathroom to shower.

Turning on the shower, his gaze fell on his right hand,

where two deep cuts ran across his palm.

Though the wounds had stopped bleeding, the severity was still evident.

Slowly, he opened his hand, letting the water flow over the injuries.

The cuts turned pale under the water, but his expression didn’t change, his gaze unwavering.

"Qin Chengyu, if your foolish hesitation today had led to Nian Jinsui being marked by Qin Chengluo, no amount of regret would have undone it."

Clenching his fist tightly, he pressed his nails into the wounds, reopening them until the water turned red. Yet, he didn’t loosen his grip.

At dinner, Nian Jinsui glanced at Qin Chengyu across the table.

Although his demeanor was still calm and indifferent, something felt off.

Nian Jinsui could sense that Qin Chengyu seemed unhappy.

"Chengyu, why did you go to see Qin Chengluo today?"

Nian Jinsui asked.

Qin Chengyu didn’t respond immediately.

Naturally, he couldn’t reveal his true intentions, so he gave a simple answer.

"He called me in the afternoon and asked me to meet him at X Club."

"I know that. Xiao Liu told me."

Nian Jinsui pressed further.

"But why did you agree? Why did you go? Did he threaten you or use some other means?"

The barrage of questions revealed Nian Jinsui’s genuine confusion.

"No..."

Qin Chengyu averted his gaze, avoiding Nian Jinsui’s eyes.

For the first time, he felt a hint of guilt—an emotion he had never experienced before.

Nian Jinsui frowned, determined to get to the bottom of it.

"Then why did you go? You must have known he didn’t have good intentions. Were you deliberately seeking trouble?"
