Chapter 19: Are These His Death Warrants?

While chatting and laughing with Nian Yixin,

Nian Jinsui’s gaze fell on Qin Chengyu’s still-empty rice bowl.

“Qin Chengyu, why aren’t you eating any meat? You don’t like fried chicken, but you don’t like these dishes either? Tell me what you like, and I’ll have the kitchen make it.”

Qin Chengyu paused for a moment before finally reaching out to pick up some meat.

“There’s no need. This is fine.”

“From now on, you must eat two bowls of rice at every meal. You’re staying in my house now, and if you’re this skinny, people might think the Nian family can’t afford to feed you. That would be embarrassing for us. Don’t you think so, Dad?”

“Hahaha, Jinsui’s right,”

Nian Yixin replied, still happily eating his plate of vegetables.

No matter what Nian Jinsui said, Nian Yixin always responded with,

“Jinsui’s right.”

Qin Chengyu didn’t respond, nor did he take Nian Jinsui’s words to heart.

He regarded them as polite chatter and nothing more.

That day, Nian Jinsui had acted in a dramatic scene, gone shopping, and felt quite exhausted. He went to bed early.

Before sleeping, Nian Jinsui received a task reminder from Xi Lü. He was just about to send Chu Heting a goodnight message when he suddenly remembered something.

In the original novel, after the dramatic fallout at the Imperial Capital Tower at noon, Chu Heting blocked Nian Jinsui that very evening.

This meant Chu Heting wouldn’t even receive his messages. Realizing this, Nian Jinsui decided to have some fun.

He typed a “Goodnight” message, followed by a string of middle-finger emojis, and hit send.

Sure enough, a red exclamation mark appeared next to the message.

Seeing this, Nian Jinsui couldn’t help but chuckle in satisfaction—until he remembered something.

His expression darkened, and he sighed heavily.

This wasn’t going to be an easy night.

In the novel, upon discovering that he’d been blocked,

Nian Jinsui was so furious that he flew into a rage, smashing things to vent his anger.

Hearing the commotion, Butler Liu went upstairs, running into Qin Chengyu, who hadn’t yet gone to bed.

Butler Liu brought Qin Chengyu along to help.

That night marked Nian Jinsui and Qin Chengyu’s first proper meeting, as well as the beginning of Nian Jinsui’s mistreatment of him.

[Task Notification: The host must begin smashing objects to draw Qin Chengyu upstairs.]

As expected, Xi Lü’s mechanical voice sounded in Nian Jinsui’s mind.

Feeling hopeless, Nian Jinsui closed his eyes briefly.

Then, resigned to his fate, he got out of bed, wheeled himself around the room, and started looking for something to break.

“Can’t pick anything too expensive… That’d be wasteful,”

he muttered to himself as he scoped out the room.

Finally, he decided on his water cup and hurled it to the floor.

With a loud crash, the cup shattered into pieces.

Nian Jinsui perked up his ears to listen.

The house remained silent; clearly, the noise wasn’t loud enough.

Thinking it over, he wheeled himself to the small reception room near the stairs, opened the door wide for better sound travel, and focused on a large vase nearby.

Resting his chin on his hand, he critiqued it:

“If I smash this big vase, the sound will definitely be loud. And since it’s placed here so prominently, it’s probably cheap. Alright, you’re the one.”

Having made up his mind, Nian Jinsui decisively pushed the vase over.

The sound of the vase shattering was deafening, startling even Nian Jinsui. Moments later, he heard hurried footsteps approaching.

Turning around, he saw Butler Liu’s anxious face, with Qin Chengyu trailing behind him.

Qin Chengyu’s expression remained neutral, betraying no emotion.

Only he knew what he was thinking:

What kind of nonsense is Nian Jinsui up to in the middle of the night this time?

“Young Master, are you alright?”

Butler Liu asked, carefully moving Nian Jinsui to a clean spot in the room.

“Please don’t move. I’ll clean this up right away.”

Butler Liu went to the third-floor storage room to fetch a broom, leaving Qin Chengyu standing in place.

His gaze shifted from the shards of the vase to Nian Jinsui.

Nian Jinsui looked at Qin Chengyu nervously, unsure what the system’s next task would be.

Thinking about how Nian Jinsui mistreated Qin Chengyu in the original novel only made him more uneasy.

Noticing Nian Jinsui’s discomfort and the mess around him, Qin Chengyu naturally linked it all to Chu Heting.

“What did Chu Heting do this time?”

Qin Chengyu asked.

Nian Jinsui froze, not expecting the question, but he answered truthfully,

“He blocked me.”

As I thought,

Qin Chengyu mused.

So now he’s throwing a tantrum.

Butler Liu returned with a broom and dustpan, efficiently cleaning up the shards.

“Uncle Liu, how much was this vase worth?”

Nian Jinsui asked suddenly.

“This vase was an antique your father purchased at an auction last year for an eight-figure sum,”

Butler Liu replied nonchalantly.

“Eight figures…”

Nian Jinsui murmured, struggling to calculate.

Slowly, he counted on his fingers: ten, hundred, thousand, ten thousand…

When realization struck, he felt a pang of regret.

He had smashed a vase worth tens of millions!

“Why wasn’t such an expensive vase locked in a collection room? Why put it outside my door? What if it broke?!”

Butler Liu, unfazed, replied,

“Young Master, you specifically instructed for it to be placed there. You said if you ever wanted to smash something, this vase would be perfect because it makes a loud sound.”

Nian Jinsui almost coughed up blood.

I’ll never understand the hobbies of rich people…

Butler Liu quickly cleared away the shards, even sweeping up the broken pieces in Nian Jinsui’s bedroom.

Before leaving, he reminded him,

“Young Master, don’t walk around barefoot tonight. I’ll have someone do a thorough cleaning tomorrow to ensure no small shards remain.”

“Thank you, Uncle Liu,”

Nian Jinsui replied.

As Butler Liu left, Qin Chengyu also turned to go.

Just then, the system’s voice rang out again.

[Task Notification: Host must ask Qin Chengyu to stay and chat.]

“Qin Chengyu…”

Nian Jinsui called out, summoning his courage.

Qin Chengyu paused and turned to look at him.

“Can you… stay and chat with me?”

Without a word, Qin Chengyu nodded and walked back to stand in front of him.

[Task Notification: The host must now adopt an arrogant and commanding demeanor, delivering the following lines as part of the scripted scenario. This task will be graded for performance accuracy. Please complete it carefully.]

As the lines appeared in his mind, Nian Jinsui’s vision darkened.

Scripted Lines:

[“Qin Chengyu, the Qin family cast you out—they don’t want you anymore. The Nian family kindly took you in, but not to treat you like a young master. You’d better know your place.”]

[“I heard your parents are dead, and now the Qin family doesn’t want you either. Are you some kind of jinx?”]

[“Since you’re staying in my house, you should be grateful and obedient. Otherwise, you might end up on the streets. From now on, you’re my dog. If I say left, you can’t go right. If you disobey and make me angry, there will be consequences. Do you understand?”]

[“If you understand, get out.”]

These… these are death warrants, aren’t they?
